About This Item

Limited edition of just 750 copies - 180g vinyl - the complete original LP + 2 bonus tracks. A wonderful singer whose recording career, sadly, lasted for just six years, Billie Poole (1929-2005) was an exceptional performer who excelled in both jazz and blues. Presented here is Billie Pool's second and, sadly, last album, Confessin' the Blues, on which she sings with the support of an all-star small group consisting of the Junior Mance Trio plus guitarist Kenny Burrell. This LP brings back the second of two Riverside albums cut by singer Billie Poole in 1962. Other than a single from a few years earlier, the two sets were Poole's entire recording legacy. Poole was an expressive singer who favoured blues-oriented jazz material and for this date here chosen rhythm section was the unbeatable Junior Mance Trio plus guitaristKenny Burrell. Featuring mostly vintage material with a few more contemporary songs of the day added for variety, Poole's interpretations of such classic as 'Confessin' the Blues' (Walter Brown/JayMcShann), 'Stormy Weather' (Harold Arlen/Ted Koehler), 'Alone Together'(Arthur Schwartz), and 'God Bless the Child' by Billie Holiday/Arthur Herzog Jr.)are exceptional and as good as any other recorded versions. Album Tracks 1. Confessin' the Blues 2. Them Blues 3. God Bless the Child 4. I Don't Worry 'Bout You 5. Jailhouse Blues 6. Stormy Weather 7. Time After Time 8. The Man That Got Away 9. Keep Your Hand on Your Heart 10. Ain't That Love 11. Alone Together 12. When Your Well Runs Dry 13. Stormy Monday Blues 14. A Sunday Kind of Love
