It's obviously much more powerful than most streaming sticks or smart TV systems. The UI is snappy and it can handle everything I throw at it... Other than casting to YouTube. How can this still be an issue? I shouldn't have to navigate multiple menus to enter a 9 digit code just to cast a YouTube video. My old as dirt OG Chromecast still works better for casting.

Great Streaming Hub

I’ve been using the Nvidia Shield Android TV Pro 16GB for about a month now and it has completely changed my streaming experience. I purchased it because I wanted an all-in-one media hub for my living room, and it has exceeded my expectations in almost every way.
Pros:
Performance: The Shield Pro is fast and smooth. Streaming apps load quickly, and navigating through the interface feels seamless. I haven’t experienced any lag or buffering, even when watching in 4K.
Picture Quality: Picture and video quality is great and with the integrated AI upscaling feature is genuinely impressive. It sharpens and enhances lower-quality videos to look almost like native 4K. Watching older shows or YouTube videos feels much more modern and vibrant, making the Shield Pro a great choice if you care about visual quality.
Gaming Capabilities: I don’t use it for gaming so not sure how the gaming experience on the Shield would compare to a console or hand held gaming device. It does seem like a good feature to have if you are into gaming.
Smart Home Integration: The Shield Pro’s integration with Google Assistant and Alexa has been surprisingly useful. I can control my lights, thermostat, and even check the weather without picking up my phone.
Storage Options: Although it comes with 16GB of storage, which might seem limiting, I appreciate that Nvidia included two USB 3.0 ports. I connected an external hard drive, which expanded my storage for apps and media, so I don’t have to worry about running out of space.
Cons:
Limited Internal Storage: While the USB ports offer a workaround, the 16GB of internal storage can fill up quickly if you install many apps or games. It would have been nice to have a bit more storage, especially given the device’s price point.
Price: At its higher price, it’s not the most budget-friendly option compared to other Android TV devices. However, considering the premium features and consistent performance, I feel the cost is justifiable, especially if you’re using it as a primary media center.
Remote Design: The remote control is functional but could use some design improvements. It’s a bit small, and the triangular shape feels unusual to hold. The backlight feature is useful in low-light settings, but the buttons are close together, which can lead to accidental presses.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Nvidia Shield Android TV Pro 16GB is an exceptional choice if you’re looking for a high-performance, versatile streaming device with excellent gaming capabilities. It’s an investment, but it delivers in quality, especially if you care about picture enhancement, responsive navigation, and smart home integration. If you’re looking for a great streaming media hub this device is well worth it.

The NVIDIA Shield TV Pro is hands-down one of the best streaming devices you can buy—especially if you want something more powerful and flexible than your average streaming stick.
Performance
Powered by the NVIDIA Tegra X1+ chip, the Shield Pro is blazing fast. Apps launch quickly, there’s no lag, and it handles multitasking like a champ. It also supports AI upscaling, which actually works surprisingly well—HD content is sharpened and enhanced to look near-4K on modern TVs.
Gaming Capabilities
This is where the Shield really separates itself from the pack. You get access to GeForce NOW, NVIDIA’s cloud gaming service, and the ability to stream games from your PC with GameStream (if you’re on the same network). Retro gamers will also love how easily it runs emulators for NES, SNES, PS1, N64, and even GameCube/Wii with the right setup.
Streaming Features
It supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR10, and all the usual suspects—Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, Plex, etc. It works beautifully with Plex Media Server (even as the server itself), and Android TV means you can sideload almost anything if you’re comfortable with it.
Smart Home Integration
It’s compatible with Google Assistant and Alexa, and you can use it as a SmartThings hub with the right accessories. The voice remote is backlit, programmable, and very responsive.
Downsides?
• It’s more expensive than other streamers like the Fire TV or Roku Ultra.
• Storage is limited to 16GB, though you can add USB storage easily.
• GeForce NOW is good, but not a full replacement for a console (yet).
⸻
Final Verdict:
If you want a future-proof, all-in-one streaming and gaming device, the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro is unmatched. It’s ideal for power users, home theater nerds, gamers, and cord-cutters who want total control over their setup.

As someone who owns them all ( and I mean ALL) from Roku, Apple TV, Google TV, Chromecast, Firesticks and boxes and even basic android TV boxes trust me when I say this is the one.
Even though the hardware is a bit dated you would never know it based on performance. it absolutely blows away every other streamer. (I'm looking at you Apple TV 4K) The ATV4k is the only one that is even close to this but it lacks the flexibility and AI Upscaler that is a game changer.
The remote is odd at first but I ended up loving the way it feels and its reaction time. It is also backlit which is a plus.
4k to Dolby Vision this device will give you the absolute best picture across the board. As mentioned earlier with AI upscaling on, everything looks 4k!
I have sideloaded several apps from emulators to movie apps and it executes them flawlessly. Add a 500gb hard drive and now you really have a media machine.
I would love to see a newer version come out but honestly at this stage there is no need for it. This box does it all

Amazing Device But Lacks AV1

As much as I wasn't happy to pay full price for a device that hasn't had a hardware update in what seems like ages, this thing is still the best there is. This is the only device that supports every format i want/need to take full advantage of my media. Many devices claim to have Atmos support but what they do not tell you is that this is almost always for the Dolby Digital Plus (5.1 lossy compression) version of Atmos which is what most of the streaming services like Netflix and Prime use. Most of my media uses the full version of Atmos based on the lossless TRUEHD format. On top of that little detail, it supports many other important formats like Dolby Vision (The current best HDR standard in my opinion) and other handy featires like the AI upscaling whoch is surprisingly good.
My one complaint is that since this has not seen a hardware revision in some time, it doesn't support the newest codecs like AV1 which is a bit of a bummer, especially consider this thing almost never goes on sale and when it does it isnt a very big discount. That being said, the performance is snappy and I have no complaints about the device feeling old or "showing its age" in any way.
Pros:
-Unbeatable Audio/Video format support
-Good performance and pleasant to use
-AI Upscaling
-Ethernet port
-Premium feel all around
-Backlit remote
-Actively gets updates from Nvidia
Cons:
-No AV1 support
-Expensive
-No vertical stand included
-Sometimes difficult getting it to.stay where you want when lots of cords are plugged in

The NVIDIA SHIELD Pro has completely blown me away. It’s everything I wanted in a streaming box and more. I mainly bought it for Plex, but it quickly became the centerpiece of my entire home media setup.
Plex playback is flawless. I have a large personal library, including high-bitrate 4K HDR remuxes, and the SHIELD handles them like a champ. It never buffers or chokes, even over Wi-Fi, and everything just plays smoothly. The image quality is stunning, and audio passthrough (including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X) works perfectly with my sound system.
Aside from Plex, I use it regularly for Netflix, Disney+, and ESPN — and performance is consistently excellent. Load times are fast, the apps run smooth, and HDR content looks amazing. I also switched the default launcher to Projectivity, which gives me a clean and customizable grid-style interface that feels way better than the stock UI. The flexibility of Android TV is a big reason I went with the SHIELD over more locked-down devices.
Now let’s talk about game streaming: I don’t use GeForce NOW, but I set up Sunshine on my PC and stream games to the SHIELD with Moonlight — and it’s phenomenal. The connection is incredibly low latency, the video quality is high, and controller input feels near-instant. It honestly feels like I’m playing the game natively on the TV, and the SHIELD’s hardware makes that possible.
The remote is one of those things that looks weird at first (triangle-shaped?), but once you hold it, it just makes sense. It's comfortable, intuitive, and I love that it lights up automatically in the dark. Plus, it can control my TV and soundbar without needing extra remotes — super convenient.
More things I love:
AI upscaling for 1080p content looks surprisingly good on my 4K TV.
Built-in Google Assistant works reliably.
Two rear USB ports — I use one for an external SSD and the other for a keyboard dongle.
It’s completely silent and stays cool.
Built-in Ethernet for rock-solid streaming.
Honestly, if you're into Plex, streaming services, game streaming from your PC, or just want a premium Android TV experience, this is the device to get. It's not cheap, but you absolutely get what you pay for. I can’t see myself using anything else now.
Highly recommended. 5/5.

I have been using other streaming devices and since upgraded to an Atmos setup, have been looking at devices that support Atmos as well as 4K on as many streaming services as possible. After reading lots of reviews and asking in numerous audio video groups, it was pretty obvious that the Nvidia was the way to go. I will say, I had an extremely difficult time spending $200 on a streaming device, when can get streaming devices for a tenth the price and also most TV's and bluray players come with streaming abilities but I purchased one with little expectations and was fully expecting to end up returning, due to lack of value! Boy was I wrong!
This device is amazing! Not only can you stream a ton more 4k and atmos content, but the regular content loads faster, smoother and overall better quality. The Ai up stalling is amazing! I do not have a plex server up and running yet, but from reviews does a great job running plex server as well.
I am super impressed by the features and improvement over the several other, more budget friendly streaming devices I own. I wish I hadn't been stubborn and held off on purchasing an Nvidia to begin with!
I hooked up my sons PS4 controller just to mess with the gaming capabilies and wow, I am very impressed! I am by no means a gamer and I personally won't use it for that, but my son has been playing some of the free games Nvidia games section, which he loves.
Has all the popular streaming services available to add that I can think of and has done a great job with all I have!
It is a lot smaller than I always pictured it. It is small! Remote, but does the job well! It is cool to have Backlot buttons whenever you pick up the remote too! Can easily set up to where remote will change volume of audio receiver or TV as opposed to the outgoing volume of unit itself. Also the unit does have voice control, which is really cool. Also compatible with smart home integration, which I personally use Alexa in the theater room and works well!
Overall, I absolutely love this device and despite what I thought was a ridiculously high price, now that I own it, I can 100% see the value!

This is a very good streaming device, Apple 4K is better for streaming only because it has more channels/apps. Dolby fission and Dolby Atmos was a bit easier with the Nvidia, But maybe that was because I had figured it out earlier with Apple 4K and the correct cables. Also Nvidia gives you more tweaks to adjust your home theater just right and I do like it’s enhance picture AI for content less than 4K.
But nothing beats this if you want to game on your big screen tv. I am an old pc gamer that played games like half life2. With Nvidia shield I was able to connect to my old steam account and have be enjoying those games all over again but now on my 75” tv with a great sound system. I am glad I bought the shield.

The Shield TV has always been one of, if not the best streaming boxes on the market. After trying pretty much every other leading streamer (and other lesser known products), I keep coming back to the Shield. The Android TV UI is fast and fluid and easy, app support is great, expandable storage, built in Plex server, it can even function as a SmartThings hub, Bluetooth game controllers can be added and there's a decent number of native Android games that can be played on your TV, heck they even include free game streaming for a handful of AAA titles, or you can stream to your TV using Steam Link. All without skipping a beat. I love this little thing.
This latest hardware revision just improves on an already fantastic device. The new remote is much more comfortable to use and far more functional, the AI Upscaling is absolutely *not* a gimmick and is not just a sharpening layer (makes a noticeable difference, 1080p streams look amazing), and the increase in processing power just makes the UI buttery smooth and the device ultra responsive. Pair it with a Samsung T5 USB3 SSD if you want to expand the storage, and this thing flies.
This thing is great. If you're looking for a powerful performant 4k streaming device, you will not be disappointed.
The ONLY complaint I have is that it seems to be a little finicky with USB flash storage if you're going to set it up as Adoptable Storage (using Flash storage as they system's storage for apps and such). I went through a handful of highly rated, very fast drives (Patriot, Samsung, Kingston) with the system reporting the device was slow (it thinks it's not USB3 and it runs like a USB2 device), or it causing lag when waking from sleep, navigating menus, or opening apps. I eventually caved and went with one of the officially supported SanDisk drives Nvidia lists, and didn't have any issues.
I did however want more storage space on the device than 64/128GB. I purchased an external Samsung T5 USB3 SSD, and holy moly, this thing SCREAMS now. MUCH faster than flash storage. Highly recommended.

I've tried many streaming devices and there is no comparison. It has a very snappy processor. It performs video upscaling , supports most of the current audio formats for surround sound and is very easy to setup. The remote control interaction with the device is also very smooth. I had an Android box and the remote was very bad. It needed to be pointed directly at the box and was still horrible. I also owned a Fire stick and had buffering issues and also the horrible remote. This device works flawlessly. You can also game on this using the included remote or by purchasing a gaming remote sold separately. If I had to say something negative it would be about the Netflix button. This is located at the bottom of the remote and can sometimes get pushed accidentally but it can be disabled if it becomes a problem. I own both a pro model and a regular Shield tv. If your going to stream TV this is your device.

Still the same great performance as previous models. The remote is very much improved over the old one. (No more abrupt volume changes due to control placement.) And no more button cell batteries. This bad boy takes AAA. It does not come with a game controller, but the old ones are still compatible. My external hard drive (SanDisk Extreme SSD 250 GB) is compatible, but it made me reformat it. There is a noticeable increase in processing speed as far as multitasking is concerned. Unless A1 video upscaling, Dolby, and new remote design are deal breakers, the older models will due just fine.

I’ve was a advent for the Amazon TV Sticks. But I heard about Nvidia and boy am I happy I bought the Pro Shield. I went with the Pro Shield because of the more storage it had over the regular shield. The system is about a little bigger than a deck of cards. The layout is very simple and easy to setup. It’s heavy invested with voice controls on Google. You can add your current subscriptions like Netflix, YouTube, etc It does provide 4K support for those services that provide it. The remote has a touch sensitive light feedback on it so you can use and see it in the dark. It’s a very good feature to have on remotes. Overall, I want to go with Nvidia all throughout the house. The only thing is I wish they weren’t as expensive compared to current Android TV competition.

if you are looking for a streaming device which checks all boxes from Apps to Sound and Video codecs this is box to get. I do not use it for gaming so can't comment much on it.
Setting up is easy, it is fast to setup, it is also easy to setup with harmony remote, PQ settings are excellent, supports all High resolution audio formats. I have connected it to LG CX 77 OLED.
highly recommended, price might push many buyers away. I have Apple TV and Amazon fire stick connected to other TVs, I think Apple TV is the best and Nvidia shield is 2nd. Amazon fire stick is best for price. Roku Ultra is good but does not support DV which is not good for me as my TV supports DV and all ATV+ content support DV also.

This is my 2nd Shield for my house. My other one is about a year or so old. The redesigned remote is awesome compared to the old flat one. As far as capabilities w/ this box go it is the 1 and only needed for your house. With the Android platform Nvidia has created a powerful device that's fast thanks to the Tegra processor! The 4K, Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos are superior features to have. Dolby Atmos is unreal if you happen to have a Atmos surround sound setup. My media is a 5.2.4 system which is where I use the Shield. Whether you're running a Plex server, streaming off any of the services like Netflix or Amazon this is the device to do it with!
Highly recommend as it won't freeze up and need repeated reboots like you do with the cheap equipment like Firesticks

I've had this for 8 months now. Great streaming for non-apple users, but if you are buying this for the purpose of playing games, I'd say look towards the Steam Deck and the impending SteamOS 3 release instead.
First: Streaming. The streaming tools on this are awesome. The support for Dolby Vision is rare to find on many other devices if you're running through plex, and it is for all intents and purposes an android device with all the joys and pains that brings. I've enjoyed the experience overall. This is perhaps the best device you can buy for Plex streaming. If all you want is simple access to your Netflix/Hulu/Disney+, I'd go for something cheaper though. The remote is pretty comfortable despite it's weird shape, and although it definitely stops it from rolling, I don't think it truly helps with any real couch cushion wedging, in fact I think it might give it an easier time. The backlight on the remote is a really nice touch though, and something that I think a lot of other devices could learn from.
For Gaming: This thing presented the potential silver bullet to my home gaming setup. I have a PS4 and a Switch, but it feels like a waste to buy a game on either for double or sometimes triple the cost to get that same game on steam. I would love to say that this did it, but it unfortunately did not. Firstly: Graphics cards. The hardware acceleration relies on NVENC on your graphics card, which means immediately AMD is out of the picture -- obvious enough, this is an NVidia product. However, the added caveat is that this feature is not turned on unless you use NVidia's official game streaming app, and that is limited to a number of games that are 'Nvidia approved'. Thankfully, there is a community-made tool called Moonlight that lets you stream your games straight from Steam -- boom, problem solved. Right?
Not exactly. The problems that the Nvidia Shield has for game streaming are the same problems that PC gaming has struggled with for a long time -- a lot of troubleshooting between devices. I can even deal with that, it's not their fault, but what I can't put up with is the total pitfalls they make in user experience. The technical points are perfect -- the technology is quite frankly shockingly good. However, the most basic UX experiences have been shirked, here's a few highlights:
Controllers won't auto-shutoff when you connect them. You can leave a PS4 controller on all night and run down it's battery completely.
Steam is smart enough now to have controller mappings for all of the many brands of controllers, but using Moonlight or Nvidia Games streaming wraps it with an XInput wrapper, so all devices appear to be an Xbox controller. This used to be crucial to compatibility, but these days it just makes it kind of a headache sometimes when stuff doesn't get mapped right.
The Steam Link app CAN map the controllers correctly (and work with a Steam Controller if you happen to have one of those), but it doesn't get access to the "secret sauce". Therefore, the quality is lower, and it caps at 1080p.
If you have a multi-monitor setup, sometimes it can pick the wrong one. No problem, go shut it off, it works.
If you just close the application and get up and walk away, it won't shut down the streaming. When streaming, NVidia hijacks your sound, and won't let you change it until you close.
All-in-all, it is close. Annoyingly close. I can see the ideal of PC game streaming in my house so near, but they fumble it on some total basics so badly it makes it kind of an awful experience. For my part, I'm waiting for my Steam Deck to arrive. I think that with it's improved controller support, and it's ability to run some games locally, it will be the 'bridge' between the living room and my office I've been looking for.

Extremely glad I bought this. The user experience is exponentially better than using my Samsung Q60’s built in software. Most importantly, NO ADS. Also there’s twitch since it’s android tv and my Samsung doesn’t have it available for some reason. There could be other apps that are available on Android that aren’t on Samsung that I don’t use too.
There is a lot of customization to get the apps you use to where you can easily access them. Very easy to remove apps or recommendations you don’t want to see from the home screen.
CEC lets you control your tv (such as on/off and volume) with the shield remote and the shield with the tv remote. At least with my tv. You can use the tv remote to navigate apps and go back. The only function that I haven’t found is going back to the shield home with a dedicated button on my tv remote. But pressing the back button repeatedly gets you there with just a little more effort.
The shield remote is good but I wish the volume button was as easily found as on my Samsung remote. It is backlit but I like using my remote without looking at it. This is also why I find myself switching between the tv and shield remote sometimes.
AI enhancing is definitely cool if you stream 1080p on your 4K tv. You definitely notice when you enhance it. Although, I believe the video must be the same aspect ratio as the tv for AI enhancing to work. I believe 16:9. Otherwise, it says “unsupported resolution.” Like for Avatar the last air bender :(

It’s crazy this first came out in 2015 and is still the best option. It’s one of the few boxes that fully supports Dolby TrueHD, which is huge if you’re digitizing Blu-rays for Plex—no TrueHD is a dealbreaker, and that’s why Apple TV isn’t the top choice. The 2019 Shield refresh added Dolby Vision and full 4K/60 (not important for movies, but nice for the interface). The gaming features are great, though I haven't used them in years. The latest Fire TV 4K technically supports Dolby TrueHD, but the Fire UI is a mess and buggy with Dolby features. Maybe Nvidia will give us a Shield 2 now that the Switch 2 is coming—but probably not. For something this old, it’s still snappy and outperforms every newer box, all of which have major flaws that keep them from beating it.
