Ordered these 8th WD Red Plus drives for my home security cameras. I upgraded my system to 16 channels from 8 channels. The 8 channel NVR had (2) 4tb WD Red Plus drives I previously purchased, for well over a year with no issues. Did a full scan on them and no bad sectors or issues running 24/7. Looking forward to the 8th drives to produce the same expectations as the 4tb drives did.

Good performance in raid 1 is a Synology DS220+. They are at least 15dB louder than my old 4tb wd reds that they replaced so they can no longer be in the office, which I deducted 2 stars for.
Hello Andrew, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. Please be informed that Hard drives produce some noise when they work. The amount and kind of noise depend on what the hard drive is doing like reading or writing data. It's good to know which sounds are normal and which might mean there's a problem with the hard drive. Please refer to the mentioned link to know the Reasons for Hard Drive Noise: https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/32906 If you need any assistance then please feel free to contact us by opening a ticket directly at (https://support-en.wd.com/app/askweb)

Great upgrade for broken MyCloud drive disks

I purchased two of these for my WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra, which I have set up to mirror across two drives with RAID. The EX2 Ultra came with 4TB disks, which I managed to break one of when I dropped the EX2 Ultra (powered on) while moving newly assembled furniture into place. I took the "good" drive, and extracted data off it on a desktop PC with a recovery tool (RecaimMe File Recovery Ultimate), and used these drives (which were twice the storage space) which were easy enough to set up and initialize in the EX2 Ultra Web Console. I copied the recovered files over the net to the cloud drive (after setting up the same shares and users I had), and for the most part, a month later things are working better than they were before. I'm now, for a change, successfully able to use the MyCloud drive with Time Machine
(Mac Backups) for example, which I had a problem doing earlier. I store decades of family photos and videos (even converted videos from VHS) on the cloud drive, so having extra space makes me feel like I can more freely use it. It feels faster than it was with these drives, whether or not it is. The original drives were WD Red, and these are WD Red Plus which seemed like a step up (I gather Red Pro or something like that was the best).

The WD Red Plus 8TB NAS Internal Hard Drive is a top choice for network-attached storage, delivering reliable performance and significant storage capacity ideal for small to medium-sized businesses. Its 5400 RPM speed ensures smooth data access, and its compatibility with a variety of NAS systems offers versatile use. The drive's enhanced durability and error recovery controls also make it a dependable option for continuous operation in RAID environments.

I am using the WD Red Plus 8TB NAS Internal Hard Drive in my home lab, and I’m genuinely impressed with its performance. The drive delivers consistent reliability and speed, making it an excellent choice for home lab setups and NAS environments.
While operating, it is mostly silent, with only occasional mild sounds, which are not disruptive. Overall, it strikes a great balance between performance, capacity, and noise levels.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to build or expand a home lab or NAS system.

I bought 2 of these for my home server and so far they've been great. I didn' have any installation issues or issues setting them up into raid format.
The initial ease of use/setup has been great. I'm still waiting to see how they perform over an extended period of time, but Western Digital has always been good for me!

I am loving the generous storage I have now for use with my Synology NAS 224+. It functions well and doesn't make too much noise. Delivery was fast and well-packed too. I received it after a day of snowy weather. Recommended brand and recommended retailer - Best Buy

Have found WD Red to be more reliable than most other brands in 24/7 server environments. The larger ones tend to be Hitachi’s helium-filled types and I usually opt for more smaller ones instead of fewer larger capacity drives so that rebuild times aren’t terribly long.

So far, so good. Bought this drive to replace a faulty personal cloud drive. So far, it's performed as expected - no hiccups, no errors. I have backed up all our devices (a couple TB of data) and it seems to perform very well.

These are great drives. The oldest one in my NAS is from 2022 and I've never once had an issue with them. Also, I much prefer ordering from Best Buy over other online vendors because Best Buy actually packages the product correctly.
