Arlo - Safe Family Bundle – 1-Year Safe Family Plan and 2 Safe Button Accessories - White

Had trouble setting it up, but haven't had issues with connectivity since. Kind of works similar to an air tag for tracking. I haven't had to use the emergency button yet. It's nice to be able to see family members location and such. I was disappointed that this is a separate application altogether from the cameras. I thought I was getting 1-year of the camera features with this. Value is 4 stars due to I got it on a deal.

When it comes to family safety, you can't be overly cautious. There are many tools that help with keeping family members safe. Arlo has came up with something that attempts to extend that safety net beyond your average tracker. There are other brands out there that can track things (like your laptop or keys for example), but what about a person? That's what this attempts to protect. The units are about as small as a battery and can clip onto clothes or attach to your keys. I have them attached to both sets of our keys so each vehicle has one. To me, these are best used when your in your vehicle. They do have a crash detection, so that would be a good thing if an accident occured. When you push the top button on the unit or an accident is detected, you will first get a text and then a phone call to confirm you need help. If they don't hear from you, they'll automatically send help. I found this out accidentally, the second day I had the thing set up. I was driving our family back from the pool when I received a text that stated I needed to answer a call that will be coming and that help was on the way! I was confused. I didn't even think of this item being responsible for the call. Then the call came and I answered it and a live agent spoke to me about me needing help. I assured her I did not need help and that somehow it was a false alarm. She was very nice and pleasant and told me not to worry and that she would cancel the submission. Although it all seemed to work well in regards to their response, I was put off by how the thing was accidentally pushed when it was attached to my keychain in my jacket pocket. It wasn't the best of first impressions. Also, when I came home and explained to my wife the false alarm, I got on the app and my unit showed just 13% battery left. I installed the battery 48 hours before! That's what this does that most trackers don't. It has its own help line and agents looking out for you. Think of it as having a security system in your house, but for your safety outside the home. Is it completely necessary? Maybe? But if there are easy false alarms, I can see it being more of an annoyance than a feature. Most of the other aspects of this tracker can be done with your phone or many other, cheaper alternatives. This has a subscription for the service, which gives you a free trial when you set it up. I'm not sure how much it is monthly, because it doesn't tell me as of yet. I imagine it will when the trial is done. There are things I love about this bundle. I do like having an automatic 911 caller helping me if the off chance of an accident occurs. I also love the size of these. They're easily managed. What I don't like is the false alarms, subscription based, the dependence of a phone connection or battery life. All the cons outweigh the pros for now. Maybe some software tweaks can make this better, especially regarding the battery life. But as of now, I don't think I'll be continuing any subscriptions.

The Arlo Safe Family Bundle with 1-Year Arlo Safe Family Plan is great as long as you have the proper expectations and understanding of what it can do for you and your family. I had to deduct 1 star for the setup. The instructions are straight forward and presented as 4 simple steps. Unfortunately, It was not as simple to complete the setup as the directions would lead you on to believe. While setting up my account, I ran into several instances where I had to close out of the app and re-launch in order to have my settings properly applied and to move past a few steps in the account activation as well as the pairing process for the Safe Button Accessories. Once everything was set-up properly, to app does a great job explaining how to use the service. The Safe Button Accessories DO NOT USE GPS (they don't claim to be, but that was my initial expectation)-- they are Bluetooth only. You must have your phone with you for the Button Accessories to work and ping your location. Think of the buttons as a faster way to access your 24/7 Personal Safety Expert than unlocking your phone and calling for help. I set one Accessory Button up for myself and one for my wife. I placed one on each of our keychains and love the peace-of-mind they provide. My wife is a Registered Nurse who works long hours and is required to park off-site in remote lots. Knowing that she has the Safe Button on her at all times is just one more layer of security that keeps my mind at ease. I would love to see a GPS enabled version in the future that would allow me to offer the same level of security to my grade school kids who do not have phones. That being said, I have also instructed my children on how to use the Safe Buttons. In the event of an emergency where my wife or myself are non-responsive, my kids will be able to call for help and need not worry about having to access our phones.

***TLDR:*** It didn't work for the whole reason I wanted it. ***I was excited to have a quick solution to out and about safety for my wife, since she does Door Dash and regularly walks our dog in a place with a lot of foot traffic. Unfortunately, the Safe Button would not connect to her Pixel 7 Pro. It had no problem connecting to my Samsung S21 Ultra, though there's actually a note to that as well. ***Regardless of what we did (clear app cache and data, re-sign in, check app permissions, re-download the app), the Pixel 7 Pro would not complete the Safe Button connection process. The app would tell us the button had been found, another connection screen would pop up, but then the fields would remain unpopulated. Her phone got hot trying to connect, so we just gave it up. ***As for the note regarding connecting my Ultra, my (the second) safe button battery actually died in my pocket. I must have accidentally started it pairing before leaving the house. Buy the time I got to trying to set it up (about 3 hours later), I went to grab my jacket and felt the button had gotten really hot. Not connecting, I took the battery from the second button and it worked right away. As I don't need the button nearly so much as my wife, I'm actually pretty disappointed. ***As for app usability and sign up process, it went smoothly for me, though I had to adjust my device's font size down to read all of the tutorial text for the button. ***I don't want to actually test the emergency services side of the app or my button, so that's hard to review, so it will neither add to nor detract from my rating. I'm going to assume it works. ***CONCLUSION:*** I'm bummed it wouldn't work with my wife's phone. It could be a Pixel problem, it could be something else, I don't know. All I know is, it's a neat concept a compatibility problem killed for me.

The Arlo Safe with two Safe buttons is a unique device where it's one of those things you never want to use unless you really have to use it. Setup for this device is one of the more tricky devices I have come across because I ran into issues in pairing it, where once paired to your phone the app would not update in real time and you were forced to close out the app in order for all the different features to unlock in the app. This took about 3 different times opening and closing the app for the device to be fully synced. This is an easy software update that will probably be fixed at some point but at the moment I found this to be really annoying and confusing with the initial setup. Also when setting it up for the other user you wanted to give the other safe device to, you had to create their own personal account and would run into the same issues as I stated above, where 1 family account where you could add users would be more preferred. Now the tricky thing about reviewing this product is that it's kind of hard to give it an honest review because that means my significant other or myself would have to be in danger and set the alarm off and have the emergency services come out for essentially a false alarm to see if it works in a timely manner. So it's really just a peace of mind product that if something bad were to happen you have something to alert the authorities. This product I feel would be best used for say a daughter going off to college or someone living in a big city where they have to walk by themselves alot. One thing I wish the Arlo Safe button did do was being able to set up a macro for the button where instead of two different settings for the emergency button, you could set the button to one tap to alert the other person you “checked in” to your destination, instead of having to open the app and go to the map and click the “Check in Button”. I personally feel like this feature would get used more often than an actual emergency. Overall this is an okay product in theory, with some minor app issues but it's really difficult to give a full review on how quick it can alert the authorities in a compromising situation, but it's more so giving you that peace of mind that you can alert them if something were to go wrong.
