A: Yes, the audio directions are very clear and concise. They even tell you what lane you need to be in before you get to a turn.
A: Yes. My GPS, out of the box, was loaded with maps. But they were not the most current and I did preform a map update. That took about 20 minutes with a high speed internet connection (50 Mbps) through an Ethernet connection. If used with my outdated wireless 1.5 Mbps connection, the map download was estimated at over 3 hours.
A: Besides screen size (6" vs 5"), the LMT-S uses a "smart phone" with appropriate downloaded Garmin App for traffic updates. The Garmin Drive 50LMT includes a dual power / antenna cable for traffic updates and does not use a smart phone. (Some reviewers state you could purchase the dual power/antenna cable for the LMT-S, but they don't seem happy about it.) Note that the "smart phone" traffic updates are probably more real time than the "antenna" version. I personally don't want to tie up my mobile phone and use the Garmin Drive 50LMT model.

A: I'm not a tech whiz, but it receives updates in real time while plugged in. Your phone is not involved.
