GoPro - Wireless Mic Complete Kit - Black

Relatively easy to connect to my phone using the transmitter, and it works with Bluetooth to connect to my GoPro (since I don't have a Media Mod yet). Audio is decent as well, sounds good for me, altought it might be different

I’ve honestly used the GoPro Wireless Mic Complete Kit more than I’ve used the new GoPro camera I got with it, and that says a lot. This little kit has turned out to be one of those accessories that is way more useful than I expected. The biggest thing for me is how versatile it is. It connects wirelessly with the GoPro Mission 1 Pro, but you can also use the included USB-C receiver with a phone. That has been fantastic. I’ve used it at a splash pad, during a 4th of July parade, around the zoo, and even just recording things around the house with my kids. Being able to put the mic on the person I’m recording makes a huge difference. The audio quality is the real standout. It gives video that “reporter with a microphone” sound, where the person speaking actually sounds close and clear instead of distant and buried under wind or background noise. With a regular phone or camera mic, if someone is 10 feet away, you usually lose a lot of what they’re saying. With this mic clipped on, the voice comes through clearly, and it cuts down on wind and background noise really well. Setup is about as easy as it gets. The mic connects automatically, and when I plug the USB-C receiver into my phone, everything just works. Taking the pieces out of the charging case turns them on, pairs them, and gets them ready without needing to mess with settings. The charging case is also excellent. It charges over USB-C, keeps everything together, and the magnets inside the case have just the right amount of hold. The pieces snap into place without being hard to remove. Build quality is also impressive. The mic is tiny and easy to wear, and I like that GoPro gives you both a clip option and a magnetic mounting option. The magnet setup is especially handy if someone is wearing a T-shirt or doesn’t have a good place to clip the mic. My only real concern is that the little magnets could be easy to lose if you bump the mic or are using it with kids. Thankfully, you don’t have to use the magnetic mount if you don’t want to, since the regular clip works well too. Overall, this is one of the best small tech accessories I’ve used in a long time. It is simple, well thought out, easy to charge, easy to connect, and it makes a huge difference in the quality of everyday videos. I’m not a GoPro expert, but this mic kit has been incredible, and for the price, a great value.

In the past I’ve never really felt the need to have a wireless microphone when doing recordings or videos, however more recently I’ve found myself reaching for better audio on the videos I do and of the several systems I have used in recently this setup from GoPro has probably been one of the easiest to use. Having recently gotten a Mission One camera that made getting this Wireless Microphone kit even better since I can now have recording and audio all in the same family of hardware devices (instead of having several different brands who all handle software updates or other things differently from each other. Overall audio quality was great, and in most of my use cases with each adapter type I found I needed to run the gain about mid-way, the low gain setting when using the USB adapter and the TX pod was too quiet but I guess that’s good though since you have a comfortable range to work with depending on the environment you’re. Bluetooth operation of the mics themselves was good and in my use, I did not seem to have any sort of rage or dropout issues. Although admittedly I was operating them within ~20 feet of the camera when Bluetooth was used. In the past with some other wireless microphones, I have had large issues with the Bluetooth connection dropping quickly even when close by so it’s nice to not have to worry about that. The range of the USB adapter and the TX pod was very good as I was able to operate on at least 2 different occasions over 100ft away from the receivers. I used one of the mics heavily with the new Mission One camera also from GoPro and the two operate together well, although it’s still using Bluetooth the process of pairing them together was super simple. I would have liked to have seen some interoperability with the same wireless radio that is used for the USB adapter and the TX pod (the transmitter pod is what I’m calling the main receiver, the one that has the dial for more gain control and the line out jacks.) But when operating with the camera directly it’s nice to not have to carry around the extra hardware, and since you can only connect one Bluetooth mic at a time with this kit you basically get twice the runtime before charging if you swap between the two microphones. If I could request anything it would have been a good way to pair both microphones with the camera at the same time to get two different audio channels that where not the cameras mic but it seems like when using the Bluetooth connection it’s limited to just one receiver and the onboard mic. You could use one of other receivers but then you have to run the camera without the grip to have it plugged into the USB port, so Bluetooth was the better normal operation option. The only thing I did notice (although I think this is kind of a normal thing with Lav style mics) is that you really need to make sure you use the windscreen that is provided in the kit. While there is some adaptive noise reduction that works decently well if you’re in direct wind of any sort or talking directly into the mic the windsock is a must use. I also love the charging case. It makes it super easy to keep everything together and ready to go since the case is also the way you charge all the bits. The kit comes with a soft bag that has the windsocks and cables in it that also fits the hard case to keep everything together. The only real issue I’ve found with the hard case is that you can’t have the windsocks attached and close the lid of the hard case at the same time, you must take the windsocks off beforehand and that can be a bit annoying. But overall, I feel that’s a small downside in an otherwise nice bit of kit.

As a casual user GoPro cameras, and not specifically being a v-logger, I had always viewed the need for an accessory audio kit as superfluous. That was till I had an opportunity to check out this new addition to the GoPro line. For me, the highlight of the kit are the twin microphone/transmitters. They turn on automatically upon removal from the case, and communicate with the TRS receiver plugged into your GoPro, or with Bluetooth. These micro wonders are capable of providing Super Wideband Speech 16 bit/32kHz recording. Dynamic Noise Reduction is a feature that can be powered on/off as desired.They can be used with either the provided clip mounts or magnetic mount. LED's provide information about DNR status, charge state, and Bluetooth status. I had used the GoPro Mission for a few days before obtaining this kit. The difference in audio quality is immediately noticeable. There is a Gain Control Dial on the TRS receiver that has an adjustment range of -12db to +12db, in my use I left the control in middle of it's range was fine. I was also happy to see that this kit is multi-functional, in that via the USB C port can be connected to your phone or other audio/video recording equipment. I tried the kit on my Samsung S24, and the "Pro" video mode, and the results were excellent, it definitely up the sound quality on video clips taken. The range on these mini mics are of course not infinite, I found no dropouts within a 20-30 foot range, and, of course within visible sight. I had a good demonstration of the capabilities when I clipped the mini mic onto the collar of my Great Pyrenees. I had the camera on him as he went to the gate to greet the neighbors. Little did they know he was transmitting their conversation back to me. Super CIA stuff! What really threw the knockout punch to me on this kit was just the design of the whole package. Everything clips in magnetically, lights up, and goes immediately into charge mode. It has a self contained battery that is claimed to be good for a full two charges when you're on the go. They should really get an award for the function and design of the kit - it's really a jewel piece. If you were to hand it to me and ask what the price was, I would imagine I'd guess it was at least twice the retail it's sold for. If you're like me, and didn't think you needed an add-on audio accessory, take a look the GoPro kit - it'll greatly improve the overall quality of your videos.

This mic set serves a very important purpose. Off camera audio. That eliminates all hand noise, touches when using the camera. That's straight up the biggest benefit. It's got almost all common functionalities you'd want. Straight Bluetooth from the lavalier mics to the camera which the Hero13 connects to. Nothing else needed. Apart from that this mic set can be re-used for every other camera. My iPhone, Canon DSLR, Sony A7rii. Using the included transceivers. And in case that's not enough it also comes with a Bluetooth dongle should your computer not have that. The one thing is doesn't have is onboard storage so you can record without a camera at all. Or record at the highest possible fidelity. Given that it's a lavalier. I can see how that's its not that important. My other wireless mic set actually has inputs for the transceivers in addition to the built-ins. That's where you'd definitely want to capture full quality from a high end mic. Comparing modes is pretty straight forward. Bluetooth: iPhone audio "voice memo" has no gain at all. Probably the wrong app to record audio. Transceivers: Canon DSLR. Sounds what I should expect. Loud, bassy, good dynamic range. Manual gain control on the receiver. Nothing: Onboard audio only on the Canon DSL. Sounds very tinny, harsh high frequencies, no dynamic range. Third Party Transceiver: Less bass and more tinny than the GoPro Wireless Mic Kit. Setup: Oddly frustrating. In bt pairing mode, the mics didn't want to show up on the GoPro. So I gave up and did something else and made some videos, charged new batteries and then all of a sudden the GoPro saw the camera with no issue. Carrying case and hardware is actually really nice. Hard plastic case with built into charger for all pieces. Way more thought out than my other set. Lavaliers are way smaller than my other set and have a very nice magnet clip. Way less obtrusive. The mic set is a very good compliment for your GoPro Hero 13 and up and the rest of your cameras as well.
