battery life is amazing, keyboard and chassis design are super nice and well built. Once you set it up is lighting fast. For my first surface laptop I’m in love worth every penny.

I absolutely love this laptop! I was looking for something that felt like an upgrade without being overly complicated, and this has honestly exceeded my expectations. It’s fast, responsive, and handles everything I need without slowing down, even when I have multiple tabs and programs open at once. The screen is crisp and bright, the keyboard is comfortable to type on, and I love how sleek and polished the overall design feels. Setup was incredibly easy, and from the first day it has just been effortless to use. I’ve been using it for everything from everyday browsing and video calls to work and projects, and it keeps up beautifully. One of my favorite things is that it manages to feel powerful while still being practical for everyday use. I wanted a laptop that I could rely on for several years rather than something I’d immediately start finding little annoyances with, and so far I genuinely don’t have any complaints. Overall, I’m extremely happy with my purchase and would absolutely recommend it. It’s one of those purchases that makes you think, “Why didn’t I upgrade sooner?” ☺️

The Microsoft Surface 13.8” laptop has a lot that will appeal to a good deal of users. It’s a fast and sleek machine that has a variety of uses. First off, the laptop itself has a clean and seamless look to it. It’s very fluid in appearance without anything protruding from it. All that is visible is the Windows logo on top, 2 USB-C ports, 1 USB-A, a 3.5mm jack, and the Surface Connect charging port on the sides. It’s pretty impressive combining that with the black coloring that I have. It gives it a very sophisticated look. Being a 13.8” laptop, it is super portable to go wherever you need to go. However, that doesn’t mean that it lacks in power. It boasts a Snapdragon X2 Elite @ 4.03 GHz processor that keeps it flying throughout all tasks. To go along with that, there is the Qualcomm Adreno X2-85 GPU for processing those video elements we all desire. Combining those elements together, the 13.8” PixelSense Flow IPS LCD Panel provides a sharp and vivid display that is suitable for almost every need. The pictures are beautiful. The videos are crisp and are without hiccups. Everything that I have viewed has been practically flawless. For the gamers, this is probably not their best option. Things like Roblox, Fortnite, and lesser demanding games will play without issue. Higher-demand games will require gamers to lower in-game settings to achieve what they want. Ultimately, this is not the laptop for that. No knock from me on that front. What it can do, it does very well. For productivity and web users, this laptop is your ideal selection. Everything is easily accessible and is fluid from task to task. It even has the added ability of making CoPilot+ accessible at every turn. It’s pretty easy to get to when there’s a button right on the keyboard. I have been drilling that thing nonstop to use my AI friend for almost everything. As previously stated, it’s accessible in other places as well. CoPilot+ is available in your File Explorer, Settings screen and is being pinned on your taskbar. I’ve found the File Explorer and Setting additions useful when trying to easily find things. I think these will become even more useful as I build up the repository of documents and photos with time. It’s been reliable with what I have there and I am sure it will be just as good then. Lastly, let’s talk about power consumption. I am not a fan of the Surface Connect charging port when everyone else is going universal with the USB-C. It works well and stays attached without issue. The charging time seemed pretty fast, and that is always nice. From a usage standpoint, it’s pretty remarkable how long the battery lasts. I’ve been using the laptop for various reasons almost every night for a week, and I still have a third of a battery left. A full charge certainly seems to go a long way if you aren’t overtaxing the unit. Ultimately, the 8th edition of the Microsoft Surface 13.8” laptop is a productivity beast. I think any family would welcome this into their household to tackle almost anything. Microsoft has done a great job and I look forward to using it for years to come.

we have really likes the Surface Laptop we received. We have been using it just under a month and it has been an amazing addition to our home office. I use it the most, but my kids will hop on every so often and comment how easy it is to navigate. everything loads very quickly, and it stays charged forever! We have used a surface before, but this one beats that one hands down. the AI has been an interesting change, I am not sure how I feel, but it is easy to find what im looking for. it is very fast and easy to set up. the laptop is very light, it is very easy to open and is a great size for travel. It does have quite a few ports which is nice, and the screen is really great. I do love that it is a touch screen, it makes things easy. but let me tell you... I hate the charger. I hate it with everything. why are we not to the point where everything uses USB-c? it does charge super fast, and the battery lasts forever, but keeping track of another cord is annoying! All in all, I would buy this computer again anytime!

I used to have an earlier version of the computer, and I absolutely loved it, but it finally died after years of hard work. Unfortunately, that model is no longer available, so I got this one to replace it. I hate it. It is awful. It does not work. The space bar and keys do not consistently register when typing, so when you go back and look at work you were doing, you have all these typos from skipped letters and unregistered spaces. This is true particularly if you are fast typer like me. The faster you type the worse it is. This simply is not a functional product for everyday use. It is so bad that I simply cannot use it anymore, and I am going to have to spend more money on a different laptop after barely six months of use. I regret this purchase and will not be buying another Microsoft laptop again - ever. If you are considering this product, please read other reviews - I have since learned that this is a systemic problem. These laptops should be recalled. Do not buy.

I have loved having this 13.8 Surface laptop for a month now! I have had many laptops for either work or personal use that have been good, but this latest iteration from Microsoft is pretty close to perfect. As soon as you take it out of the box, you can tell that you have a quality product. It is razor thin and light, but extremely sturdy. You will not find any vents or screws on this machine, it has a very clean look! I currently have a laptop that was issued from work that is hard, sometimes challenging to open. This Surface is completely the opposite! You can easily open to the screen with just one finger if you wanted to. Once you open it, you will immediately notice the beautiful screen. It is an HDR Pixel sense flow display. You will also notice the thin bezels with round edges. The 3:2 screen ratio is very useful. I love that it offers the biometric login, it is quick and secure. Once you start to utilize it, you will clear notice the 120 hz refresh rate when watching videos or a movie. This Surface is a touchscreen, which was a big plus for me as I started to make my decision on my next laptop purchase. The touchscreen is very responsive! You can easily pinch and zoom just like on your phone. The touchpad is very precise and I really like that they added haptic feedback as you navigate using the touchpad. Once you have this machine fired up and start utilizing to its fullest extent, you will begin to notice the Snapdragon X2 processor. There is no lag when multitasking, your apps launch quicker and the connectivity is just amazing. Another big plus is the battery life. I have the 13.8 inch laptop and so far I have only had to charge it every third day after 5-6 hours of daily use. The last feature that I find very useful is the local AI feature. As many of us older folks tend to do, we download and save many files. The neat feature of the local AI, it allows you easily find documents or photos by simply searching by topic. Great time saver! Overall, I am highly impressed by the thoughtfulness design, capabilities and features that this Surface laptop offers.

There are lots of things that I enjoy about this laptop. First off I love the speed of the processor. The sites that I visit upload quickly, videos upload with lighting speed as well. One of the most attractive things about this laptop is the fact that it is so lightweight. Carrying this computer around the house when I need to switch locations is wonderful because it is not bulky, heavy and a strain. This laptop is small enough and convenient enough to travel with you and not take up a lot of space. The resolution is amazing. all of the pictures and videos are crisp and clear. I really love the fact that this is touch screen. This is probably one of the most attractive features that I love about this laptop. when I can't seem to find the cursor to navigate the mouse, I can just go to the screen and navigate that way. It was very easy to pair devices with this. The speakers could be a little louder but you can hear quite well on it. Another fact is the battery life is amazing. I can watch videos, surf the internet and work on this for most of the day and the battery life last all day. As far as the charging, this laptop charges in no time and I have not notice the computer getting hot at all when I am working on it If you are thinking about purchasing this computer, please do not hesitate because this is one computer that you will not be disappointed in. It is good for home, school or the office.

I've been very impressed with the Microsoft Surface Laptop 13.8". I love the premium design and portability which I think make it a great choice for work, school, or everyday use. The Snapdragon X2 Elite processor keeps everything running smoothly, even when I was multitasking with several applications. The 13.8-inch touchscreen is bright, sharp, and responsive, making documents, videos, and photos look fantastic. Battery life is another major advantage, I worked through a full day without constantly searching for a charger. The lightweight aluminum build feels durable while remaining easy to carry, and the keyboard is comfortable for long typing sessions. I also appreciate the AI-powered Copilot+ features, which help boost productivity and simplify everyday tasks. The only downside I’ve come across is that the port selection is limited, so if you typically use multiple accessories you may need a USB-C hub or adapter. Overall, this laptop delivers outstanding performance, premium build quality, an excellent display, long battery life, and useful AI features. Despite the limited ports, it's an excellent investment for anyone looking for a fast, modern, and highly portable Windows laptop.

Cons: - ARM architecture may mean some older x86 apps do not run as well and some low level utilities may not run at all. This new Surface laptop is one of the new breed of Surface devices from Microsoft that fully embody its Copilot+ PC specification. The most important distinction here is that this means this PC is based on am ARM CPU instead of the traditional Intel x86 designs that have powered most Windows PC since the days of Windows 1.0. The specific CPU in this device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite clocked at 4.03 GHz and featuring 12 cores. Windows on ARM had a shaky start back in the very early Surface days, but with this new generation of devices and the current iteration of Windows 11, Microsoft has finally managed to evolve this architecture to the point where these ARM based devices offer incredible performance and an experience which, for the most part, provides seamless compatibility across Windows apps. The OS will automatically emulate the old x86 architecture for apps which are not available in an ARM version and in general this works very well. I even managed to get some older x86 games like Supreme Commander to run smoothly and without any special setup needed. That said, some older apps may run more slowly in emulation than the would on contemporary x86 hardware and in some cases apps are just not compatible. In my experience this is limited to low level software like disk imagers and VPN clients. Overall, compatibility has been excellent. While there may be some minor compatibility issues, these new ARM CPUs provide an incredible combination of performance and battery life. Office apps and web browsing are very responsive. Gorgeous 3D city builder Manor Lords ran beautifully at native resolution. The most impressive aspect is how well these devices maintain performance when on battery. A 1GB video encode using Handbrake took 7:23 in High Performance mode with the charger connected. The same task took 7:29 on battery in “Balanced” mode. Just 6 seconds longer. For reference, my desktop AMD Ryzen 7 5800X completed the task in 8:26. The hardware quality matches the performance. The keyboard and touchpad are both a pleasure to use, and the HDR LCD display is crisp and looks fantastic playing Dolby Vision video. The 3:2 aspect ratio is perfect for productivity work. Being an LCD, there’s no need to worry about the burn-in that can be an issue with OLED displays. Audio playback is loud and free of distortion, and overall build quality is superb. The all-metal chassis is rigid and well weighted for things like opening the lid without needing to hold the base. I also especially appreciate the ports on offer. In addition to the long-running (and excellent) magnetic Surface port, the unit offers 2xUSB C powers and a full sized USB A port – greatly appreciated for legacy device compatibility. Throughout my experience, battery life has been exemplary. Even the high workload video transcoding test I performed used only 7% of the battery. For general productivity tasks, the device should easily be able to last all day. Got only 15% left but need to do a Zoom call? No problem. Also, the sleep cycle consumes almost no power. Overall this is a fantastic all-around laptop, combining performance, build quality, and battery life. Gaming performance is above expectations, but keep in mind that some older x86 games may not run as well given the new architecture. Unless you’re a heavy gamer, this device is easy to recommend to anybody.

I am really enjoying my new Microsoft Surface. The design is great. It is a nice portable size, and the color is black with a matt finish. The keys are easy to navigate and the keyboard is comfortable for typing. The touch pad is very responsive, you don’t have to press on it hard, very light to the touch. My phone syncs well with this laptop. The cord is made for the device, it does use a USBC cord. Set up was seamless, it only took a few minutes. I have other surface devices so everything installed perfectly. The laptop does show fingerprints, but that’s not a big deal, easy to wipe off with a cloth. The device is not too heavy, but does have a little weight to it. I think that’s a good thing. Should not break or bend at all. When surfing the internet, there is no lag, pages load very quickly. The touch screen is very responsive. The speakers are crisp and clear. So far the battery life is pretty good. I can make it a couple of days so far before having to recharge. This is with moderate use. I have been playing around with copilot, it works fine when typing requests, I have not had a lot of success with it when trying to it to summarize. I’m thinking it may be the WiFi I was on when using. I will try it on better WiFi to see if that helps. So far I am enjoying using this laptop, navigation is great. I have no complaints. I have been able to download documents and files with easy. You can’t go wrong with this device. I love it.

The Microsoft - Surface Laptop - 13.8" 2K Touchscreen - Snapdragon X Elite is a solidly constructed 14 inch mobile device but in all my testing, the benchmarks proved typical and lacklustyer for an ARM based machine. Build quality is ALL Microsoft as it relates to the keyboard, display and chassis. There are two USB-C ports, one USB-A, a SD card reader and a combo audio jack. The keyboard is a real pleasure to type on and has good per-key travel. The sound is quite good, dare I say excellent and approaches that of an Apple Macbook in fullness & space. This is probably the one "stand out" feature of this device, besides the longer than usual battery life. This is definitely an "all day" personal computer. What I found terribly lacking on this Snapdragon X Elite machine was actual benchmarks: R/W nvme SSD storage speeds that barely average around 3 GB/sec CPU-Z benchmark scores that are well below similarly priced, Intel Ultra (e.g. 155H) based machines, averaging about only half - over - in performance A Cinebench R23 score of around 10K for multithreaded rendering AIDA64 measurements were actually pretty decent and I attribute that to the SoC linked, onboard memory. I believe these new Snapdragon processors are powerful enough to provide what appears to be a snappy & responsive experience. But computational workloads are going to be nothing more than "middling" at best. Max read throughput of 114 GB/s with write speeds well below that yet still solidly low latency values. This should all be fine for anyone wanting a mobile productivity device, that is light weight - snappy - responsive and for anyone akin to the Microsoft ecosystem. This will be a fine productivity companion, to take "on the go". But personally, I find similarly priced machines, some that are even lighter and easier to carry around, to be more robust in their internal power & capability. I can only recommend the Microsoft - Surface Laptop - 13.8" 2K Touchscreen - Snapdragon X Elite for those needing this type, size & moderately equipped platform - knowing it's limitations. What it lacks in terms of raw power, it makes up for in portability & battery life.

I'd like to start off this review with the physical feel of this machine. Microsoft has really pushed the envelope for high level build quality and a premium feel. The smooth metal on the outside and where your wrists sit when typing has an extremely premium feel. The keyboard is also of note, as the keys seem to have a bit more of a tactile feel than most laptop keys especially in this size range. That brings me to the screen. It is bright with vivid colors. Streaming looks quite nice, with a high contrast sharp image. I only have the 13.8" model so it's not huge, but that's the trade off for portability. On that note, this Surface unit is very light, and highly portable. It doesn't compromise usability for that with a very responsive touch screen and suitably sized keyboard. The touchpad also has a very premium feel and I have had a much easier time not committing "accidental clicks" as I have in the past with other touch pads. From a performance standpoint, booting up is very fast. Network card is going to handle whatever speed your wi-fi will allow. Everything seems to be very fast and useful straight out of the box with little to no optimization needed. I have not attempted to run any higher end games on this unit, but it is not marketed as being designed for that purpose, so I don't expect a lot of crazy performance there. Though, being a Microsoft product, you get access to Xbox and Game Pass which offers cloud solutions for power and performance if you have the network bandwidth. Let's talk about the Copilot integration. Everything is AI these days, and this laptop does an excellent job of seamlessly integrating Copilot into the daily workflows. It can interact with your office platforms and really anything on your screen if you let it to help expedite work. As always with AI solutions, double check that you're getting the results you want. Having a dedicated keyboard button to launch into Copilot is extremely convenient. I am not using this for any sort of business or work, but if I was, and my company was a Microsoft based company when it comes to IT and software, this would be a huge win for productivity. The one complaint I have, is that there are not many built in ports on the unit. 1 USB-A and 2 USB-C ports are all that exist. You'll most likely for many applications need to use peripherals to be able to connect things like extra monitors, external mouse and keyboard, etc. But a docking station is already a must have for any productivity situation, so I imagine most users will be prepared. All around, a great machine for traveling, working, productivity, streaming, and general use. Highly recommend unless you want to run the latest games at the highest specs or run super intense programs at a high level without some cloud connected power.

Having a regular gaming desktop as my go-to for everyday usage, my portable computing device was always some thin and light ultraportable that is easy to travel with, with decent performance and battery life. But looking at options available for "other" computing platforms, I have always felt what are available are always lot of compromise. It seems the manufactures are always letting me down either on performance or battery life, in worst case both, whenever I put a little priority on being sleek. It seems with the available CPUs, from efficiency point of view, there has always been a big lag. Now year over year I have seen things improve a lot, but what I experienced with the latest Surface Laptop 8 with Snapdragon ARM processors in the last few weeks actually blew me away. Starting from the specs, the laptop rocks a Snapdragon X2 Elite with 12 cores, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB SSD. It not the most powerful variant of the X2 elite CPU's out there, but the performance is far from lacking - more on that later. Also the integrated GPU, Qualcomm Adreno, also is kind of a newcomer to the PC world, so it's not always easy to compare it with traditional x86-based systems as well. The LPDDR5x RAM is soldered which makes that upgrade non-existent, but from my understanding the SSD can be upgraded. In the looks and overall build department, this thing is a work of art. The chassis, keyboard, display - everything feels premium and top notch. The lid can be opened by one hand, while still being pretty stable to support the touch sensitive display. The finish is smooth to the touch, and finger prints, even visible, is not something that's noticeable (and can be easily wiped off). From input side, the keyboard and especially the haptic trackpad is wonderful to use. The key travel and clickiness feels just right. The haptic trackpad is something new I have experience in a Windows machine and the feedback from certain gestures is something I missed when I had to use other laptops. The display, even thought LCB-based, is clear and bright. Even though I wished it was matte, I think the anti-glare finish does a decent job with reflection, with the brightness makes it a bit usable in sunlight. The 2K display can go up to 120 Hz which makes it a delight to use, and the unconventional 3:2 aspect ratio actually makes like easier when using productivity apps. Connectivity is decent for laptops in this profile - 2x USB-Cs (USB-4) and a USB-A (3.2) makes up for the ports, with an additional dedicated magnetic charge port appearing on the right side. I like the fact along with the "Surface connect" breakaway charge connector, the 2 USB-Cs are able to charge the laptop. With a maximum charge rate of 60 W, it charges up pretty fast. Finally it comes with a headphone jack which I'll gladly accept. The only thing I miss is an HDMI port - that would have made go completely "dongle-less" in most of my trips. Now for the performance: and it's a difficult point for this laptop. For natively supported apps, I have had no issues whatsoever. All my regular apps like MS Office, VS Code, Obsidian, Lightroom and Photoshop works without any issue. However when running some apps that uses a compatibility layer, things are inconsistent at best and non-existent at worst. In terms of GPU performance, that's where it kind of falls a little flat, but I am seeing more and more support for the ARM64 architecture. The NPU makes some on-device AI tasks supposedly more efficient - I see that the Windows search is much smoother and faster, and the ability to do some video effect on the fly, natively has some good use cases. However, I have not looked into much in running local LLMs, etc. so that's something I'll be focusing on in the future. But for everyday tasks, the Surface Laptop 8 just whizzes past. Now the star of the show - efficiency aka battery life. This is maybe the first laptop which can go through my day without being plugged in (and not being limping on battery). And the thermals are awesome - I still haven't heard any fan noises, and the ventless backplate design makes me wonder whether there's even a fan being put inside. This is premium-tier experience that I have always dreamed about, and having experienced it going back to my x86 based work laptop feel like a punishment. Overall, I am really happy with this laptop. Windows has a tendency of bogging done any system after a while, so I hope Microsoft proves me wrong and provides consistent services in the years to come. They have definitely delivered the benchmark other makers should aim for. Even though it's not cheap, the price paid is well worth it, at least from my perspective.
