the vagueness of the game and interviews led people to believe things and become disappointed. Thanks to GC and coupons I only paid $25. To so some even that would be too much. It is a SINGLE PLAYER GAME!!!!!!! You explore, mine, kill bad animals, feed friendly animals to find minerals, kill ai ships and sentinels. You can name markers, planets and galaxies. That is where the :multiplayer" comes in. other ps4 players can see you discovered and named things, that is all. If you didn't read online, you can be fully upgraded in Suit(48 slots), Ship(48 slots) and Multi-toll(24 slots) on the starting planet with about 30hrs put in. I did that without even reading about it. Te POINT of the game is reaching the center of the galaxy. If you're a Trophy hunter this game is Platinum easy. I'm not and this is my only platinum game. Recommending to friends is rough. For those I know like a good SP game, I still told em find it used or even wait for a sale. With the release so close to Madden and Deus Ex, It's just not worth it unless you have nothing else to do. The game is so uninformative, you don't get jack inside either.

This game was hyped up alot and while it's not a bad game. Many of the promised features are missing and the game you're left with hardly justifies a 60 dollar purchase price.

No man's sky is a huge disappointment for me I was hoping for everything they show in e3 and ign but they didn't deliver its good for the first hours but then it gets boring and repetitive atlas quest is a joke and the "center" of the galaxy SPOILERS send you to the star of the game again and you don't get noting not even the credits don't buy it full price wait till is half or less

"As wide as an ocean, as deep as a puddle." has often been said about this game, and it's very fitting. Often boasting 18 quintillion planets, there are virtually limitless places to go... yet a surprisingly low amount of things to see and do. Without spoiling too much, the first few hours of the game are exciting. You'll feel lost, confused, and miniscule- all in the best ways. Once you get past exploring your first solar system, things gradually get less exciting. Sure, there are countless planets to explore, but once you've seen around 20 or so of them, you've seen them all. Same goes for animals, ships, and anything else procedurally generated. Not only that, but once you upgrade your various pieces of tech, there isn't anything else to do to put simply. With no real storyline or goals, you find yourself wandering rather aimlessly after maybe 8-10 hours of gameplay. For some, this is OK. If you enjoy the feeling of flying around, landing on different planets, and exploring over and over again, you'll find enjoyment here. If you're looking for vast variety, a compelling story, multiplayer, or a sense of accomplishing something, you'll be disappointed. An average game that, in my opinion, does not justify the full price of $60. My suggestion is to wait for the price to come down, wait for updates to improve the game with extra features, or both.

Overheard..."No mans sky isn't for everyone, it's an acquired taste". This is true. No man's sky received a lot of Hype, from gamers and especially the developers. A lot of Hype that blew a lot of smoke and a lot of hype that proved true. For the most part it's game graphically that is beautiful and finished well. but as far a content and features it falls short. very short. With a lack of depth and multiplayer in any way and form it falls short and this items are easily would have made this game worth it's full price. No man's sky it a great survival sandbox game. however at the price tag it sell for I can't recommend it at it's price. If it was under $35 I say walk but don't run. If it was $19.99 or less then it's okay to run. at the end of the day it's a great game to burn some hours into and just lose yourself as you reenact Matt Damon in the martian. A good and innovated game worth picking up just not a full price.

It really depends on what you're looking for in a game, but I don't feel like this game was worth $60 to me. I know there are people who absolutely love this game, and there are also people who absolutely hate this game. I fall somewhere in between. I explored the game relentlessly for about 2 - 3 weeks after it launched, and then the content began to feel very repetitive. Although no two planets are technically the same, I began to feel similarities between them. From system to system, I would happen upon dead looking planet after dead looking planet, with 1 or 2 lush, vibrant planets every so often. The story was mildly fascinating, but grew tired after a while. All of the haters claim that the creators of the game lied about what it was, but I don't agree 100%. Just know what you're buying before you pick it up. I knew what I was getting into, my interest just didn't hold off long enough. I think you would be better served picking up a copy of Uncharted 4 than No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky lives up to the promise of discovering new worlds in a procedurally generated universe that is massive beyond belief. No Man's Sky is technically a multiplayer game, where real players can run into each other, but the odds of it happening are astronomical. What can happen is that you will run into unique and rare places like black holes that have already been discovered by other players, but more often than not you will be the first person there. The play style is a lot like Minecraft in space, without the ability to build anything except updates to your exo-suit, multi-tool and starship. That in itself provides endless hours of play discovering all kinds of insane looking space critters, plants and minerals. The closer you get to the center of the galaxy the more extreme the planet environments become, making it so a mountain's shadow creeping across the landscape can freeze you to death, or on a planet close to a star where sunrise will kill you. Combat is awkward like the clunkiest of FPS games without any of the bells and whistles, but where the game excels is in exploration. The RPG aspect of the game, with primarily three intelligent alien factions that you encounter, is solidly done. However the entire game feels like it is the foundation for an immersive RPG world that was never made, where you can build cities and develop galactic empires with other players. If you want Civilization in space with an endless procedurally generated universe to discover in the first person, where you can build enormous death stars requiring hundreds of real live players to operate, or where you can terraform planets and establish trade routes while building space stations for trade, etc. then the game you want is Duel Universe..

Leading up to the game, i only watched the trailers and interviews. I did not want a user review on the game because that can create an image in my mind already before the game is even released. I just wanted to take the info the devs gave me, and enjoy the product i purchased. Unfortunately, the game i purchased, was not the game i was promised. Completely anyway. I could hop in my ship, and explore endless planets and discover new wildlife while learning a new alien language all at the same time. I could dig for resources, and put them to use building myself new equipment. I could trade my excess loot to the traders i met along my journey and purchase any items I had not seen yet. So all that was next, was for me to use all of that in what i thought would be a big part off the game, joining a faction. I wanted to team up with the Vykeen and wage war on other factions, eventually meet my friend, and then continue our quest together to reach the center of the universe. Then, thats when it all came crumbling down. All i could do was be nice to members of a faction, and gain some measly rep boost that does nothing for me. I couldn't meet my friend because there was no real tool in the game to do so. I couldn't join a fleet an have a massive battle and wage war on other factions or maybe even other players. That all disappointed me. Instead of being the game i was promised, i got a survival sim. That created a really solid foundation! The game is fun for a bit and I can see a bright future for the game if it just expands on what it should have been at launch. Unfortunately, even at that rate the game CAN and WILL get boring after three to four hours of play. Overall it was not what i was promised for $60 and a LONG 2 year wait. I haven't touched the game since about a week after launch. Do I want a refund? No. The game will be further improved through patches and hotfixes. However in the games current condition and ESPECIALLY for its price I would NOT recommend it to anyone. Now, if the game drops price to about $30, and improves on its already solid foundation, it will be an excellent game. Thanks if you read this whole thing! :P

If you pay attention to online video game reviews, impressions and reactions, you already know that this game is infamous for not living up to expectations. And it deserves some of that criticism, to be fair. But I enjoyed playing it anyway, and if I could return the game to get my money back, I wouldn't. While the game is unfortunately prone to random crashes (something that is practically unheard of in a console game) it also breaks new ground in gaming by giving players a procedurally-generated universe that seems to never end. It's not literally infinite, but it's so big that if you dedicated your entire life to exploring it, you would die before you finished. This is what makes the game redeemable in my eyes, and what kept me coming back until I reached the center of the universe and scored a platinum trophy. However, the gameplay is repetitive, as each planet you land on you'll stop at landmarks, collect resources, fight triflingly easy-to-defeat enemies, then move on to the next one and do pretty much the same thing all over again. There are small puzzles here and there, but they are just as repetitive. There are unique procedurally-generated animals on each planet, but they rarely get weird and wild the way you might expect alien lifeforms to be, instead this game features creatures that mostly seem like the rejects not good enough to be on display at your local zoo. So, if wandering around a series of mostly-empty planets just to look at the land formations and see what's over that next hill sounds boring to you, do not buy this game. However, I enjoyed the experience.

If you are on the fence about this game please read this review! So as a lot of people have mentioned, this game carried a ton of hype up to its release. I will say that it's not as great as I hoped it would be but I'm only several hours in so far. I still feel this is enough time spent playing the game to write an accurate review. For anyone that is hoping they will be getting an infinite Destiny or Halo type of game...you are going to be extremely disappointed. This game, from what I can tell so far, is exploring to discover species, planets, materials and going at whatever pace you choose. There is some action but it's not anything to write home about. To make sure you don't waste your money, watch some gameplay videos of NMS first and base your decision off of that. You'll be able to tell pretty quick if this is a game you should buy or not.

Many people have actually been very disappointed with this game; I was not aware of it until it came out, so I was unbiased. The game is literally limitless, with millions of different planets to explore, all with different flora, fauna, and resources to catalog. There are ways to engage in some combat, but it is not a goal of the game. There are constant ways to upgrade your gear and ships, and there are different "missions" and buildings to discover on each planet. Each planet can also have different weather conditions from extreme heat/cold, radioactivity, etc. After reading what was PROMISED to be in the game, I was disappointed with how many things were actually skipped. Also, it is VERY easy to get off the track that the game puts you on (that's the issue I'm having now), and to not be able to find your way back. All in all, it is a pretty relaxing game that I enjoy playing, since there really isn't a "goal" to achieve, especially when you freaking get lost....

Upon starting out in the game, it felt fresh and new and something that could be really great. Something that hasn't been done before. Tons of upgrading and modifying, worlds and planets to see and explore. But I've put about 60 hours in and it's more and more of the same. This game is simply huge!!! Maybe one of the biggest games I've played. After all the time I've put in, I've yet to understand anything I do. No direction or mission or purpose. There is no end in sight and kind of feels pointless. Exploring is fun because I keep holding out hope that something "really cool" is just around the bend...but sadly it seems to never happen. Worlds and planets are more of the same. You see the same stuff over and over and over. They might be different colors but it's pretty much the same. Kind of disappointing. It could've been a really awesome game but because of the repetitiveness of it, I'm knocking off two stars.

The release of this game has been a whirlwind of bad PR and upset gamers. The hype leading up to its release didn't help much, as seems to be the case more and more with big game releases. Despite all of the negativity surrounding the launch, I still found the game to be an enjoyable, fun experience. The exploration of the different planets is pretty addictive for the first few hours, and I enjoyed the minimal instruction set which forces the player to think and try out different things to see what works. Landing on a new planet was exciting, especially in the first few hours. I loved looking for the new wildlife, scanning, and uploading them (sometimes renaming them). Some of the creatures created by the procedural generation engine are INSANE - love that. I've put about 10 hours or so into the game, taking me time. The repetitive nature of the game-play has started to show through, though. I think that is the biggest problem with the game, trying to keep the game-play fresh. Overall, still a really cool game in my book - maybe not worth the full price of admission.

I personally like this game a lot but I could see it but being everyone's taste. There is a lot of crafting and exploring lifeless planets. But it's the biggest sandbox ever and there are a lot of secret things to find. Renaming planets and wildlife js awesome and the ship designs are just fantastic!

It's with a heavy heart that I give No Man's Sky a three out of five. While the game does some amazing things, it's hard to keep interest in playing it, as the mechanics lack the depth or fun of a well rounded/thought out game. For an indie title it's very impressive, but it just doesn't smack of a sixty dollar game. There's no justification for this game to be priced more than twice that of a Minecraft or a Terraria. From such a tiny dev team as well, I just can't understand why it would be priced this high, other than that they knew the hype would drive sales through the roof, which it did. With the lack of features mentioned prior to release, it's no wonder that the are so many hard feelings and lost good will with Hello Games. Peace...

I, as many others, had high hoped for this game. In the end, we're left with a game that is colourful, filled with varied lifeforms, and has a nice soundtrack to add to the feel of an individual making their way through a vast universe toward an enigmatic destiny. Although the game provides an incredibly vast universe to explore, the planets, moons, and space stations soon become redundant in the style and elements. You visit the same ruins and outposts over and over with little variance, and space is full of only a handful of different types of asteroids to either fly into or destroy for minimal resources. The developers have promised to add more content in the future, but, as of now, the game has great atmosphere but little complexity.

This game received a lot of hate & accusations that it was falsely advertised when it released. From what I always heard & saw about this game leading up to its release Vs what I played & experienced it met all my expectations and I didn't feel like I was sold something that was falsely advertised to me. The Game does have its issues with constant resource management and very much lacking a true "story"... while I wasn't expecting my hand to be held through the entire game or a linear experience a little better detailed story would have been great. my only dislikes really of the game is how much you have to manage resources to keep your shields up on your suit & gas for your ship. if you come into this game expecting super action space sim you will likely be disappointed but if you come in with an open mind & enjoy heavy exploration games along with resource management this game will be for you. Think Minecraft on steroids almost...

I had followed NMS since it was announced, and yes, there's some things to be disappointed in that were being promoted... But, in my nearly 13 hours so far (and I haven't even left the starting planet due to getting sucked into FUN exploration,) the bulk of what the experience was to be is there. While some of the negativity is due in part to HelloGames, there's other blame to be passed around; the websites that continued to hype this game, posting multiple articles per day and whipping the masses into a frenzy for its arrival, and gamers themselves... People who had never played or enjoyed similar games who believed that it would magically change their minds. And, falling somewhat into that latter category, I didn't foolheartedly pre-order or make myself a Day One purchaser. I waited on reviews... Which actually proved to me that the things I cared about being in NMS were in the game. While it's no savior of the crafting/ exploration genre, it is, in my opinion, a game with a broader appeal than say even Minecraft, which I tried to enjoy, but couldn't. NMS is all about exploration and crafting in a broad, beautiful (if not utterly interesting-looking,) universe filled with various planets and intriguing creatures. To keep you in check on a planet, "Sentinels" monitor the surroundings- if you attempt to stripmine a planet, they will become aggressive. One of the most interesting features is the ability to name just about any and everything you come across, from the creatures to mineral deposits to plant life. It adds a certain "making the game mine" element that seems simple, but can become an addictive aside all on its own. Perhaps most impressively is that after the initial load of the game, at least while traversing a planet (and my understanding is it's true even once you launch into space and land elsewhere,) there's no loading times... And all at a minuscule 5GB on the HDD. Impressive. If you were scared off of NMS due to the negativity, the recent price drop is worth it if you enjoy the genre. If you don't enjoy the genre, like myself, even the price reduction may not make it worthwhile, but as someone in that group, it's very possible you may enjoy it. The only real negative I can pin on NMS is the fact it doesn't offer much in the way of teaching... It's best played with a phone or tablet nearby, because you'll inevitably come across questions you'll need some help with.

When this game was announced years ago the trailers made it look so fantastic. With the promise of infinite planets and pure freedom gamers were excited. They teased it for years, but all in all it doesn't live up to the hype. The first 5 hours I spent with this game were actually pretty interesting. I marveled at the planet I spawned on, and repaired my ship (the tutorial revolves around fixing issues with the ship before taking off to explore the galaxy) which was actually a pretty fun time. I noticed that the inventory system was slow, and not very intuitive. They use a dumbed down version of Destiny's UI with slower cursor speed and an even more frustrating speed of selection. After 45 minutes and walking for what seemed like miles, and dying twice from a sentinel (The shooting controls are dreadful) I had finally repaired my ship. I lifted off my first planet, and wow that's the coolest part of the game. The transition between planet, atmosphere, and then space is something to behold. Little did I know the "wow" of the game ended there. All it would turn into was a poor survival game with an unsatisfactory trudge to the center of the galaxy. It wasn't challenging, it wasn't that interesting, and most of all it wasn't that fun. The idea of this game being 18 quadrillion planets is cool, don't get me wrong, but nothing feels like it has any real sense or purpose. It all feels like a giant algorithm. Nothing feels tailor made, nothing feels worthwhile, and it all just feels too random. You can name planets and animals, but when is anybody going to actually find the planets you name? It all seems pointless. All in all, to end on a positive note. If you enjoy games where you can just chill and explore, this is for you. But if you want a game that has deep combat, an interesting story, or any real mechanics beyond collecting/crafting this isn't for you. All in all it's a game that is at odds with itself. It has a grand vision, but it feels very limited in scope when it comes to gameplay elements. I would wait for the price to come down to around $20, otherwise take a pass on this one....

I've given myself some time after buying this game to give as much of an objective view on it as possible. After initially feeling the hype of travelling between planets and naming hundreds of discoveries, I've come to the conclusion that No Man's Sky is an excellent example of what an exploration game looks like at the most basic level. No Man's Sky will likely only impress players that are drawn in by large scale, open world games. There are TONS of places to explore, but there really isn't much to those places to recommend continuing on. It's with that realization that I began to fall out of love with the game. I eventually stopped playing it altogether. The only thing that has stopped me from selling it is its incredibly low value right now. That said, I can't recommend this game. It's a disappointment at the very best.
