As an owner of a 5th gen iPad Pro 12.9, I really wanted to try this tablet out, as I'm a fan of OLED and the extra size was appealing to me. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I am not the biggest fan of Android either. So here's an honest opinion of this tablet. First, let me say that this is one aspect where Android fans have been unable to compete with the larger iPad for several years now, but that changes with this tablet! THE GOOD * Size of the display * Contrast ratio * Free pen included * Performance is very good * Not directly controlled by Google * Good Battery Life * Dolby Atmos Support * Speakers are great * Gaming is Good THE BAD * Android's history of slowing down tech within 2 years * WiFi stays connected, but tells me there is no internet * Display isn't as bright as the iPad Pro 12.9 * Pen Docking Location isn't optimal * Google has very little respect for privacy * No Variable Refresh Rate SCREEN Obviously, looking at the display, the size of the screen and the contrast ratio are fantastic, there's very little more that needs to be said. The only disappointement is the lack of VRR technology as 120 Hz full time can create a drain on the battery and 60 Hz can create a weird scrolling affect for every day activities (this is something the iPad Pro has and does very well). PERFORMANCE The model I have is the 256 Gig with 12 Gigs of RAM and it performs very well without any real hitches as far as playing games, browsing the web, using apps, and the like. Watching movies is great and the aspect ratio of the screen really works well to complement the performance. Does it match the iPad for performance? No, but it really doesn't have to, as it really doesn't struggle anywhere either. Gaming gets a solid 60 FPS for the most part and day to day apps never slow down at all. SOUND The speakers are great and the addition of Dolby Atmos is great for movie watching. Music also comes through very clearly on the tablet and quite loud (I do not hear any benefit to the iPad Pro over these). NETWORK CONNECTIVITY This is honestly the most troubling aspect of the tablet... While the speed of the WiFi is great, the tablet occasionally decides that there's no path to the Internet, even though it shows that I'm connected to my WAP. This can be frustrating when you're watching a movie or video on YouTube and it just starts throttling. When you check the WiFi, you get the error message "Connected without Internet" and I think it might have something to do with the tablet's ability to work with mixed WPA2 / WPA3 autonegotiation that my router has built in. PRODUCTIVITY You get pretty much full access to Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, and Teams if you have an Office 365 Subscription and the Dex desktop, makes the device much more like a desktop when paired with a bluetooth keyboard or Mouse. I could honestly see somebody using this as a laptop replacement for many of the tasks the average user does day to day. The biggest downside is that I could find no way to mirror the tablet to my PC monitor (maybe it is there, but I do not see it), but other than that it is a great mobile device. HARDWARE The iPad Pro is solid and thicker than the Samsung tablet, thanks to the extra layers required by the Mini-LED Display. The Samsung uses self illuminating pixels in the OLED Display, so it is considerably thinner than the iPad and while that's fantastic for use, I have flashbacks to the thinner, more pliable design of the 12.9" first gen iPad Pro and I could honestly see the Samsung Tablet bending as well, if you're not carefult. Another piece of hardware is the S-Pen vs the Pencil. The S-Pen is included with the Galaxy Tablet, where Apple will charge you an extra $129 for the Pencil. However, the S-Pen build quality is nowhere near that of the Pencil and the flexibility of the Pencil for angled drawing and generally for art work is better than the S-Pen. With that said, the S-Pen is very functional and does the job well for day to day note taking, drawing, or touching up photos and such, so don't take this as a negative for the tablet. STORAGE I wanted to mention this, because the Galaxy Tablet has the ability to extend the storage with an SDCard and the iPad has no easy way to do this without an awkward dongling hanging from the Thunderbolt Port. So it is possible to offload files temporarily on the iPad, but the Galaxy can have a permanently attached 1 TB SDCard inserted right into the tablet and that's a big plus. PORTS Well, there's no easy way to say this... Samsung went with USB-C and that might be why the external display thing is such an issues, where Apple went with Thunderbolt 3 and there's no contest between the two as the TB3 port is simply much faster and more flexible, even though they have the same connection, the hardware is very different. CHARGING Unfortunately, the Samsung chargint (with the same MBP Charger, I use for all my devices) will take about 2 hours to charge up to full, the iPad Pro is less than an Hour easy and that makes this tablet less flexible when you're on a tight schedule and have to be somewhere with a low on battery. OVERALL If I were in the android camp and looking for a good alternative for the iPad Pro 12.9", this is the tablet I would turn to, as it checks enough of the boxes that you just don't need to worry about anything else. It is a solid device with good quality and I have very few complaints about its day to day use.

I love drawing with this! The pen is nice - not too thick like typical drawing tablet pens and not too thin like Samsung's note pens. Im particular with pens and so the S pen on this tablet passes my test. The screen is huge which is great for a lot of things, and definitely for drawing! My one nitpick is that you cannot use finger touch and the S pen at the same time, so you have to consciously lift up the S pen every time you want to input touch from your hands. It was a little annoying at first since it slows down my workflow - I wanna be able to move my canvas around and actually use my hand AS im drawing! - but I got used to it quickly. As for other tasks, the tablet is incredible and has incredible performance. I love all the screen real estate and how powerful my tablet is! Ive attached an art piece I made using the tablet.

I purchased this tablet as a replacement for my 10in Apple ipad but i was pleasantly surprised by the speed and the size of this tablet first of all it's massive at a Wapping 14in And the storage can hold up to a terabyte. I mean, that's crazy. The price is way more economical than the apple ipad and the size I love it!!!!!!!

Great Tablet. By far. Dynamic Screen with Extraordinary HiRes. Huge 14". Fast & Speedy with 12 GB RAM. Whole lot of memory (expandable to 1 TB, external Micro SD). Great price. FAST charging with Samsung 25W charger. Full charge last longest till, needed to be charge again.

This is by far the most powerful tablet I have owned. Cons - it is expensive! It is great for work or play. Its S Pen, powerful chipset and good-looking screen. I got the case for it right away because it feels a little fragile. I totally recommend it.

I bought this in October of 2023. Although its so big and somewhat cumbersome at times, its performance trumps all. The pictue quality is impressive and it man handles 4K plus videos like nothing. I have spilled stuff on it and dropped it many a times, and yet she still functions like new. I have used the S8 Ultra everyday since i bought it. I often use this tablet to trade with. It can pill up live charts and place trades without crashing or even slowing down for that matter. I have been considering upgrading but even today with AI, it still can handle the tasks in which i need it for. Its a no brainer here.

If you want a compact tablet, this is not the item for you. If you want a powerful mobile tool for drawing/graphic design, note taking, multimedia, or other things that benefit from a big bright popping screen? This tablet is unbeatable. This won out in a head to head vs. an Ipad Pro and benefits from having all of the software accessibility of Android and the absolute maximum real estate you can get in a tablet design. The integrated magnetic keyboard case is great too and turns it into an honest to god full-fledged 15" Chromebook. As you might expect, the battery life is not the top of the line but it's more than respectable considering the amount of screen it has to power. The tablet build is nice and probably quite sturdy but I marked 4/5 Durability because it certainly feels like it needs at least some kind of protective case, and at this price point we're not going to test that theory! The display is the draw and it is otherwise almost identical to the smaller 12.x" design. Playing a mobile game on this thing felt like playing on a full-blown laptop PC.

Great piece of tech. Best battery life on a mobile device. BEAUTIFUL 14 inch OLED screen. Great S pen intergeration. This is thin and looks cutting edge. Downside is this this NEEDS to be on a surface to use. Your hands will get tired.

Such a Powerhouse. I love the Spen, I use it all the time for my table and I use the notes all the time to draw and take important notes down for later use. It has a beautiful design, sleek, and firm. I love the battery and I got me a military protective case for it which it has a stand so I can watch important videos.

This tablet is huge! It's a little cumbersome to carry but its screen is mesmerizing. 256GB seems like a healthy amount of space for dozens of games, thousands of pictures, and hundreds of songs. However, I may get an SD card in the future if I run out of space. A keyboard and mouse practically turns this into an android laptop. The S pen is smooth and draws perfectly with no lag. I found the official Samsung accessories to be overpriced, but there's plenty of unofficial ones out there and many compatible bluetooth accesories. I currently love gaming on it with a PS5 controller with bluetooth earbuds. I think I would have been slightly happier with the smaller Tab S8 Plus due to its portability, but it's amazing having such a big, beautiful screen on the Ultra.

With the Tab S8 Ultra being 14.6" (14.25” viewable), the question of whether it can be a laptop replacement becomes even more apparent. While it does become more unwieldy as a handheld tablet due to the weight, if you can get past that, it excels in just about everything else.  ***SIZE, WEIGHT, BUILD***  Length: 12 5/8"   Width: 8”  Thickness: 3/16"  Viewable screen size (diagonal): 14 1/4"  Bezel: 1/4"  Weight: 1.6lbs  The Tab S8 Ultra is made from aluminum, keeping it lightweight for its size but feels very solid and rigid. There is no feel of flexing when holding the tablet.  ***WHAT YOU GET***  -Tab S8 Ultra with OneUI 4.1 (latest version) which is Samsung's build of Android 12.  -S Pen  -USB-C to USB-C Data Link Cable  The rumors are true: you do not get a charger. So out of the box, you’ll only be able to charge it from a PC with a USB-C port that's able to charge, or a charging brick you already own with a USB-C port.  I’ve tested several official Samsung chargers with the Tab S8 Ultra:    ***OFFICIAL SAMSUNG CHARGING BRICK COMPARISON***  Charging from 0% to 100% with tablet turned off:  45W (EP-TA845): 1 hour 30 minutes  25W (EP-TA800): 2 hours  25W (EP-TA300): 3 hours  15W (EP-TA20JBE): 3 hours  I personally can't recommend anything but the 45W because anything less will struggle with charging while you’re working with multiple apps on at the same time, especially if you have the brightness over 50%.    ***EXPANSION STORAGE***  Micro-SD (sdxc) card slot:  Sequential Read: 77 MB/s  Sequential Write: 61MB/s  Like Samsung's previous tablets, the SD card slot still doesn't achieve the max UHS-I speeds.    ***BATTERY LIFE***  Normal usage- Web browsing, social media apps such as Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, video streaming, note taking, Second Screen  Heavy usage- Prolonged use of multiple apps in multi-view and/or pop-up view, gaming, along with everything in normal usage  60Hz Normal usage: 10 hours 58 minutes  60Hz Heavy usage: 9 hours  120Hz Normal usage: 9 hours 9 minutes  120Hz Heavy usage: 7 hours  120Hz with max brightness, volume at 100% or more, 5 streaming video apps, 1 video game emulator with a bluetooth controller (DualShock 4), Twitter, running all at the same time at all times in Dex, with tablet cover keyboard attached: 4.5 hours  ---LET YOUR IMAGINATION RUN WILD---  For the first time ever, this is the first tablet I can see as an actual laptop replacement, depending on how you would normally use a laptop. Unlike Windows tablets where its app ecosystem is abysmal even after a decade.  ***DEX***  Thanks to the larger screen, Samsung Dex finally feels the closest as it has ever been to what you've come to expect from a laptop. The Tab S8 Ultra is actually larger than 13.3” laptops, which is the average size of an Ultrabook class laptop. Having many windows open no longer feels awkward since you're working with the kind of space you would have on a laptop of this size. And with Dex, you can open multiple apps and resize their windows to however you'd like, like a normal desktop OS. It just feels familiar and intuitive.  My biggest gripes about Dex are:  -Cannot snap windows for easy arrangement like you can in regular tablet mode, Windows, or MacOS.  -No double tap-hold to drag when using a touchpad.  -No AM/PM on the system clock.  ***SECOND SCREEN***  Like the previous gen of Samsung tablets, the Tab S8 Ultra allows you to use it as an external monitor for Windows (I don't have MacOS to test it with that OS) wirelessly. But the Tab S8 Ultra's size makes this feature way more functional and natural. With a tablet stand that rotates, you can easily set it up as a rotating monitor.  What’s great is, Windows actually sees it as a monitor. You'll find it in Display settings with the same options as you would a regular monitor, with the ability to extend/mirror/or use it as your only monitor.  Even better- you can enable touch and pen input. Suddenly you also have a windows tablet!    ***REMOTE DESKTOP***  Using a Remote Desktop app, like Microsoft’s own, will allow you to connect to a Windows PC. And with that you'll get the Windows tablet features. Turn the tablet to portrait and it will auto-rotate. No need to go to Display Settings. Touch and drag icons to move them. Scroll websites with touch.  ***TABLET MODE MULTITASKING***  You don't need to be in Dex to multitask. Samsung's OneUI has the best in class multitasking and it shines on the Tab S8 Ultra thanks to the larger and more importantly, its generous amount of RAM.  I’ve tried hard to push it to its limits and I never got it to stutter or slowdown. It can be tricky to learn how to master the multitasking modes: multi-view and pop-up view, but I encourage you to use them. It's a gamechanger.     ***SOUND***  There are four speakers, 2 on each side, that will automatically switch their stereo audio accordingly when you flip the orientation. The speakers can go loud, but it won't fill a room for a party. But it's max loudness is not too soft either. It's in the medium range. Bass is clear, but kind of underpowered.  With Dolby Atmos, you can get virtual surround sound.  If you have the Galaxy Buds Pro, you can also get 360 audio, which unfortunately appears to be an exclusive feature for them.  No headphone jack. You'll need to go bluetooth or use USB audio, via an adapter or USB-C headphones/earbuds.  ***DISPLAY***  The pixel density is less than what Samsung users have been accustomed to with their flagship devices and some people may be sensitive to notice this. However, I don’t think it's very noticeable at all.  If you value battery life, change it to 60Hz as soon as you're able to. You will get about 2 hours more. Because if you get a taste of 120Hz, you'll end up loving it and it will take your eyes some getting used to the slower 60Hz, even though this used to be the norm.  120Hz is the way to go for the best display and experience. There’s no flickering when scrolling. Everything feels and looks faster and smoother.  120 Hz is also the way to get the best pen input latency. On 60Hz, latency takes a hit. Keep in mind, it's no worse than on the Tab S6, maybe even better if not on par.  The default colors are vibrant, but saturated and exaggerated.  If you prefer more accurate colors, set the screen mode to "Natural".  The Tab S8 Ultra is the closest an Android tablet has ever been to a life-size magazine. It is SUCH a joy to read a magazine on it. It looks and feels so natural.  ***WIFI PERFORMANCE***  It supports WiFi 6e, which I'm unable to test since I do not have a new enough router that supports it. I do have WiFi 6 mesh routers and my internet performs with no issues whatsoever reaching its top speed of 200Mb/s consistently.  LAN performance does take a hit though and unable to achieve the same speeds I get from my laptop at over 100MB/s transferring from the same server.  Samba (SMB): 46.1 MB/s; 13GB in 5 minutes  FTP: 40.8MB/s; 13GB in 6 minutes    ***S PEN*** The S Pen performs best on 120Hz mode. Writing seems instantaneous. My writing curls less using Samsung Notes as it would on 60Hz mode. Your workspace feels like 8.5"x11” paper. Unfortunately, it's still obvious that you’re writing on glass, which isn't the best writing/drawing experience. Using a paper-like screen protector will not only compromise clarity, it will also wear out the nib of the S Pen.  The Tab S8 Ultra is such a joy to use. If you're not married to Windows or Mac specific programs, I can absolutely recommend the Tab S8 Ultra as a laptop replacement. It's worth it. The form factor is incredible. Handheld tablet, Tabletop display, Stand, you have use it on a gooseneck tablet holder since it's light enough. The possibilities are endless.

This is hands down the Best Android tablet available on the market. The 14.6 inch screen is amazing, and the performance is superb. If you get the Book Cover Keyboard it's a genuine laptop replacement.

This tablet is a beast, also i am currently typing this review on the very tablet I'm writing this review about. Anywho let me tell everyone who will read this. This tablet is the best android/samsung tablet i have ever owned and that's saying something because I've had many over the years. Definitely get this tablet if you want a large tablet that is super bright even when the brightness bar isn't even slid up to the halfway point, a tablet that has four loud speakers and i mean they make sure you can hear what you're looking at. Also the tablet is light and not heavy at all for how huge the screen is overall this tablet is an absolute unit, I've had no problems with it since I've purchased it. I definitely do not regret this purchase and if whoever is reading this decides to purchase this tablet i feel like they won't regret it either

I liked it when I had it but the notch was a bit annoying. I ended up returning and just kept my S7 +. Displays on both are amazing!!

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is Samsung’s largest tablet out of its newly released S8 lineup, and larger than any options from the previous S7 generation. This tablet is aimed as a laptop replacement based on its sheer size and performance specs, while also looking at the professional market with its included S-Pen for productivity tasks. I have ample experience with computers, laptops, chromebooks, and phones but I haven’t gotten a new tablet since 2015. Spec-wise the S8 Ultra’s size makes it stand out amongst the others in its lineup. It’s the largest at 14.6” (11” for the S8 and 12.4” for the S8+) with a pixel density of 239 PPI with its 2960x1848 resolution (siting right between 2K and 4K). The Ultra has the lowest PPI of the S8 lineup – the S8+ is at 266 and the S8 at 274. The numbers are pretty close, so the difference isn’t stark. The entire S8 lineup comes packed with Qualcomm’s current flagship CPU - the SM8450. They also all received the bump in WiFi with 6E 5GHz support. The S8 Ultra comes in 3 varieties – 128GB (with 8GB RAM), 256GB (with 12GB RAM), and 512GB (with 16GB RAM). My model is the 256GB version, but can be expanded with a 1TB microSD card. The Ultra sports dual 12MP front facing cameras (ultrawide and wide angle) and a rear 13MP camera wide and 6MP ultrawide camera. The rear camera also has an LED flash, and both front and rear can capture video at 4K 60FPS. Using the Ultra has been interesting. I have gotten a decent grasp of some of the features – face unlock, fingerprint reader, and the S-Pen were all new to me. I’ve used it to stream Netflix, play on Xbox Gamepass XCloud, run my Google Home suite of devices, and do a little bit of art. My current Android phone is an LGV40 where I use a Windows Phone style launcher. This has lead me to rediscover what the Android OS truly looks like, so I’m still configuring the S8 to my liking, My experience with the S8 Ultra has been positive. I was surprised at the speed and snappiness of switching and launching new apps. Having several apps running in the background didn’t seem to slow it up at all. About the only time I could get it to push its limits was during some XCloud gaming sessions. The connection to the XCloud was seamless, and connecting my Xbox controller was no issue. I played Forza Horizon 5 and Wreckfest while connected to my 6E router. I had a great connection to the service and experienced really smooth gameplay. It was honestly pretty great, but if I had a bunch of apps running in the background I would experience a bit of input lag. However, if I was going for a serious gaming session I would make sure to kill any extra apps like this. Using the S-Pen was a breeze. It magnetically connects to the black section on the backside of the tablet. It sticks to the backside with the tip facing either direction, but it sticks the best with the tip closest to the camera. This area also charges the pen while it is attached there. I did some light drawing and writing with the pen, and found it to work really well. It was accurate and responsive to my inputs. Screen tracking with the pen is well managed. My partner’s oldest daughter is a much more talented artist than I am, so I had her take over the tablet for awhile to make some digital art. She has experience with her Wacom Intuos drawing tablet,so I had her compare the 2. The Wacom gives a more pen/pencil to paper feel over the S-Pen, which is understandable given the smooth screen vs. textured tablet. However, she really liked having the full screen to draw on, which made it a lot easier to follow where she was going. She basically said she preferred the drawing experience of the S-Pen and S8 Ultra over her Wacom tablet and PC interface. I was a little surprised by this because she really liked the Wacom, so I guess the drawing experience is well executed on the S8 Ultra. Using the tablet I have noticed a number of things to note. Due to the size and dimensions of the tablet – 12.85 x 8.21 x .22” and 1.6lbs – it can be worrying to use while walking around. I honestly live in fear of dropping the tablet while trying to use it one handed – I can’t imagine not springing for a case or cover in the very near future. The tablet dimensions are impressive to me – the size of the screen paired with the thinness is amazing in my eyes. It’s thinner than my phone for crying out loud, and I thought my phone was pretty thin. The thinness makes me think that if I add a cover/case then it still won’t be all that bulky. Connections for the S8 Ultra haven’t changed from the S7 lineup. The headphone jack is still dead, and there is only the USB-C port. I have concerns with just having the single port – if the port ever dies then the tablet is dead. With my phone I can charge it wirelessly. My Chromebook has 2 USB-C ports through which to charge. There’s redundancy in those setups. USB-C ports are much more robust than their microUSB predecessor, so its less likely to fail but it can still happen. The tablet also uses Bluetooth 5.2 for wireless component connections. I connected my noise cancelling headphones to the tablet with ease, so I foresee zero issues there. I connected to my home network, which is a WiFi 6E based mesh network. Speeds were terrific, and I was happy to finally have a 6E device (I have a couple 6 devices but no 5GHz E). Sound quality out of the system speakers was surprisingly powerful. I was thinking that it would be closer to my phone speakers, but it had a lot more kick. Sound quality was good as well. The speakers were clear even at higher volumes. Bass reproduction is lacking, but that is to be expected out of a thin tablet. Watching a movie on Netflix I was perfectly OK using the external speakers. Overall, the S8 Ultra is an amazing tablet. The size alone is worth the look. Feature wise it has everything that I would want out of a flagship tablet – 6E WiFi, terrific front facing cameras, crisp and clear Super AMOLED screen, expandable storage capacity, and S-Pen. I would absolutely recommend a folio cover or case though. I can’t imagine going for much longer without investing in one.

I bought the tablet with the intention of using it as extra storage only for my video edits and artwork and ended up using it full time now, even more than my own phone. The camers quality is outstanding, the display is very clear and bright with 4k viewing, smooth and very fast response with the extra touch sensitivity option, and the connection between samsung and android products is crazy fast and responsive. 10/10 i highly recommend this item

I highly recommend this product for sheet music viewing/storage. I primarily bought it after my Samsung 12.2 pro broke that I had been using for sheet music also. The multi-window & split-window view feature works great to have 2 or more windows of different apps viewable at same time.
