Tempest is Tempest but this one takes the cake! Very fun classic Atari game brought up to 4K standards, hence "4000" in the title. This game is basically TxK (Playstation VIta) and Tempest 2000 (Atari Jaguar) meshed into one package. This game is fun but very challenging with a lot of stuff happening on screen that can be distracting. If you're a Tempest fan, you'll enjoy this title. And the soundtrack is especially good.

This was an arcade classic remake, this was a game my wife and I loved at the arcade. I like the remake, but my wife not as much, using a PS4 controller compared to the arcade controls, which featured a spinner control that allowed to spin around the game board and shoot with ease, not it takes a little more coordination and concentration using a stick on the PS4 pad, all said I still love this game, updated gameplay, and also classic gameplay, great price too.

Jeff Minter delivered an absolutely breathtaking Tempest experience on the Playstation Vita in TxK. Tempest 4000 brings me right back to the days of the arcade where I'd spend an entire afternoon paying $.25 a shot for my OCD treatments. Like Sinistar, Tetris, and other arcade greats, the first few levels are a breeze. However, after you get the swing of things around the ring, you'll need 100% focus and laser sharp reflexes to manage what's happening on screen. Tempest 4000 does a great job of level designs and introducing new enemies. Both of which more complicated as you progress. Like Geometry Wars, you'll get that 'one more time' vibe every time you die and find yourself, hours later, with dry eyes from having not blinked. There are three different game modes Classic, Pure, and Survival, the latter giving you a load of lives but no restarts, and online leaderboards. The added power of the PS4 has brought zooming backgrounds, higher polygon enemies, and an array of new special effects. I purchased this game for two main reasons: 1. My PS Vita is going to die eventually 2. BestBuy had this severely discounted to $10. For those two reasons, I can't recommend this game highly enough.

This game is so much fun!!! Not too many tunnel shooters around nowadays, but this one is probably the best and Best Buy has it at it's lowest price..the PS store has it for $40 . It got rereleased on all the major platforms with all the updates and runs great on my PS5. Very trippy visuals and a lot of action, highly recommended!

I have always liked the original Tempest game from the 80's. I LOVED when it was remade on the Atari Jaguar. This is just like that but with some improvement and much higher resolution graphics. Awesome music but I did like Tempest 2000 music a little more. Addictive and frantic so not a relaxing game to unwind too lol.

I grew up playing arcade games during the heyday of arcades, so I love games that are colorful, loud, and full of scoring opportunities and explosions. So this game is perfect for me. Enjoyable music, excellent blasting.. just zone out and get as many points as you can!

I will not pretend that this is the best game ever made or even close to it. The original Tempest is a classic, so to see this update was great. There are some negatives - even though the graphics fit the style, they still should have been better, and it feels kind of sloppily put together. On the other hand, for the price ($5.00 at the time that I got it), it's worth every penny if you loved the original or just want a classic arcade style game. If this were anything above $10.00, then it would be a three star review, but given its price, it's worth the four out of five stars. Not the best by any means, but it's far from bad and can provide hours of fun every so often.

Never played any of the previous Tempest games, but this was a simple and fun game. Even the graphics are simple, but look great. The music is also great. Great.

I got this game remembering the old Tempest 2000 on Atari Jaguar console. Same great game play and great music. Be sure to catch it on sale.

As a child of the 80's i remember playing this game in the arcades with the spinning knob on the old stand up machines. This is a bit harder to control - and a bit more in your face - but for a cheap shooter it's a lot of fun.

This version of Tempest is one of the craziest yet but doesn't mess with the formula too much. First and foremost this game is purely for fans of the series or high score chasing arcade games. Tempest at its core is shooting enemies on these vector pattern levels while moving around the lanes and dodging enemy attacks, spikes and other hazards. This game is very visually stimulating. And also has a fun continue system where you can begin a new run with your best high score and lives count for a selected stage; That's given as a point bonus after clearing the stage you select.

The Good: This game is FUN. Addictively fun. I'm not a beast at it yet (it's been a day), but it's just plain fun and I *want* to become a beast at it. I had very little exposure to Tempest or Tempest 2000, but that doesn't matter at all. I'm not even traditionally a shooter fan, but this game is ridiculously fun. It's simple enough to pick up and start playing, but complex enough that it will surely last.

Here you have a new take on a classic arcade atari game from the 80's The updated music. Hundreds of levels and so on make this a must have game if you love classic retro games.

Though it's more colorful and addictive it does have a drawback the control of the game gets some getting used to.

It was cheap. I don't know if it was any good it was a gift for someone else who likes the original.

The Not-So-Good-But-Not-Bad: I had to whip out the Tempest 2000 instructions to truly understand what was happening in gameplay. Controls are a little slipperier than I'd prefer. On-screen action can be a bit hectic at times, but it's part of the charm. Bonus stage involves using tilt controls and, honestly, I have no idea how to do it right. All of these things could be easily fixed with a patch, so perhaps it's only a matter of time. Bottom Line: Buy this game. I've been playing video games for over thirty years, and this game is one of those rare games that makes me love every moment (even the challenging moments).

Visually this game is almost as great as the last Tetris game released. Awesome soundtrack, learning curve isnt too bad.

I’ve been playing Tempest since the original arcades. Those were the days my friends. I pick this game up with every system it’s available on. This is a great version, that you can spend hours with. Things on screen can get a little chaotic and distracting though. Nothing beats the simplicity of the original. That said I still had a lot of fun with the new updated version. Fans rejoice and pick this up.
