Great game, glad to see on the Switch
Excellent JRPG. For those who enjoy RPGs, but are tired of the same old story of good guy goes on a quest to save the world from the bad guy and his plans for world destruction or domination, this one is recommend. Great turn-based combat system that rewards you for not spamming the same strategy over and over, yet also can crush you on harder fights and bosses with multiple poor decisions. Ambitious storyline with many great characters. For those that enjoy turn-based style JRPGs this one is a must recommend, as there is a do fast-forward mechanic for the longer scenes. I'm currently about 40+ hours in and enjoying the world that's been created by the developers. Glad to see the Nintendo Switch is getting these games because playing on the go function is great. Hopefully parts I and II get ported to the Switch as well, but if not they are on the PS3 and 4. Looking forward to part IV.

Unexpectedly great game!
I'd never played the Trails series of RPGs before, but figured I would give it a shot. The characters all have personality (and there are a lot of them), the story keeps things interesting even if it leans pretty heavily into common anime tropes, the battles are good fun and can require some strategizing, and the game is plenty long. I've got 75 hours in and not done, but still having fun. If I have a couple of gripes is that I've had a few soft locks when the game goes to load a new area, and the XP system feels a bit weak. Enemies tend to give very little XP and aren't very numerous so grinding becomes a pain though thankfully it isn't required to be able to progress in the main story like some RPGs that don't scale as well in difficulty.

Good stand alone, but play the series
You will probably like this if you like Persona style rpgs where like half the games is interacting with friends and building relationships. Games in this series are a slow burn, expect lots of dialog/lore. Also if you like side quest expect backtracking for those, while technically optional are required for better school grades. Hopefully the first 2 games or even the entire Legend of Heroes series gets ported to the Switch

Trails of Cold Steel: a New Generation
A solid continuation of what Cold Steel 1 and 2 started. Improved graphics with the switch to next generation consoles, expansions to the gameplay combat systems. The soundtrack doesn't stand out as consistently as the prior two games but some tracks are really good. Also two of the new combat mechanics can be abused to somewhat cheese the game, which can be a con. However, some characters have solid development and the story told in this installment is solid. Expect a somewhat linear experience. Play Cold Steel 1 and 2 at the very least before playing this one.

Another Great Entry
The Legend of Heroes series continues with another great entry. Awesome battle system, awesome upgrade and equipment system, deep complex story with mystery and revelations, decent dungeons. Very lengthy as well. Worth every dollar and hour. Its even better if you've played the previous games but if yoy have not, it has a summary of Cold Steel 1 and 2.
