The Worx14 inch battery operated chainsaw is a pretty impressive battery operated saw. The chainsaw comes with a quality charger and 2 -20amp batteries. After charging the batteries you attach both 20mp batteries thus making this a powerful 40 amp battery operated chainsaw. The batteries are very light so they do not weigh down the chainsaw. The batteries also feature a battery indicator. I find that features invaluable and a great added feature from Worx. Out of the box the chain is already attached. Merely adjust the chain tensioning wheel and you are ready chain wise. The saw has a chain break which to be honest is standard on chainsaws. Pull it to you and that will allow you to activate the saw. For those new to chainsaws the chain brake stops the chain from moving when you push the brake forward. Remember, to activate your saw you must pull the chain brake toward you thus unlocking it. Do not forget to add the necessary bar oil that will keep your chain properly greased and keep it working properly. Be careful, the reservoir fills fast and be careful to thread the cover properly so it doesn't leak. The saw eats through logs quite impressively. As I said earlier it is lightweight so you can get your work done without tiring from the weight. The brushless motor is a great feature because it should extends the life of the motor dramatically when compared to a standard motor. This saw ate through 8 and 9 inch diameter logs with ease. Tge chain has never bound up and the cuts have been easy to achieve.The chainsaw has a 5 year warranty and comes with a chain protective sleeve. At a 14 inch bar length the chainsaw can do most of your projects with ease. I highly recommend this saw. I am very happy with this Worx chainsaw.

The Worx 14- inch cordless chainsaw uses dual 20-volt batteries to make your cutting jobs easier. Unboxing the chainsaw takes just a few minutes. The package contains the chainsaw, a plastic chain guard for when the chainsaw is not in use, a dual battery charger, and two lithium ion batteries. The detailed instruction book shows how to set up the saw. Place the batteries in the charger, and they charge in 90 minuted or less. We tested the saw on a hardy landscape shrub, and the saw made clean cuts. The chain slipped off after a few cuts; the instruction manual says that it is normal for the chain to loosen when the tool is new. The chainsaw batteries kept their charge as we had only a small cutting job to do. If you want a chainsaw for light- to medium-duty jobs, then this might be the chainsaw for you. The cordless electric motor makes the Worx chainsaw very portable. As with any chainsaw, you need proper training on its safe operation and maintenance. Read the manual carefully and understand it before using your new cordless chainsaw. I had previously read a writeup on the Worx WG384 that described it as having “gas-like performance.” This is not just another advertising lie - it was much more powerful than we had expected. It easily and confidently cut through a log of madrone and another of oak with two knots! (see pictures) What was NOT “gas-like” was how simple to get the unit going, and how quiet it was when in actual use. The instructions were pretty simple and straightforward, with useful diagrams. We have a neighbor who has a great deal of experience with chainsaws, so we asked him to take the saw for a test drive of his own. He was more surprised than we were with this unit’s performance, and with how lightweight and compact it is. Now he wants one, too! After all our test cuts and notches, as well as those of our neighbor, the batteries were still showing a full charge. The few negatives were really pretty minor. We had originally thought that the batteries were missing from the box. They were in an unmarked box under a part of the saw. At a glance, the battery box looked more like folded cardboard packing. We were also a little disappointed that Worx did not include a container of oil, so we had to go back out to the store and pick some up.

I do not own, nor have I previously used a chainsaw. The exposure I have had with gasoline powered chainsaws (witnessing neighbors and hired arborists) is that there is a whole lot of the run time happening in the idle mode, which wastes a lot of fossil fuel with every usage. Instead, an electric motor starts up instantly (every string timmer, roto-tiller, or chainsaw I have witnessed requires 6-8 sturdy pulls of the starter cord to get things going). The brushless motor is a nice design for long-lasting power and performance. The Worx has a quick-stop chain brake, to help prevent accidental cutting and greater safety. You can tighten the chain with a turn knob, not requiring any tools. Automatic chain lubrication for continuous easy use. Just fill the reservoir for continuous lubrication while using the saw. 40 volts of power delivered by two 20V Power Share batteries. More on the Power-Share advantage below. The batteries have a simple push button indicator so you how full the battery is. Worx has made a concerted effort in their design of their tools to have the batteries be interchangeable, which they brand as Power-Share. Worx makes different amp-hour capacity models, so that a light weight one hand tool, like a screwdriver, can use a lighter 1.5 Ah battery than a two hand, chainsaw. And a self powered lawnmower uses up to 4 of the 20V batteries, each of which can be a 4 Ah capacity. The whole stable of batteries can use the same chargers. (2) 20 volt batteries are included, as well as a dual port fast charger. See below for my “upgrade” suggestion for charging your back stock of batteries. And you will need extra batteries, charged and at the ready. Safety gear (gloves, glasses, protective clothing, hearing protection, etc.) are highly recommended, but not included I noted a couple of typos in the owner’s manual, mostly in referring to a figure of explanation, the wrong # for the figure was given in the text. For example, when they referred to Figure 2, they meant Figure 1. Not a huge issue, but a bit of proof-reading before publication could have avoided the error. This the the perfect step-up addition to my Worx brand JawSaw, which I have owned for a decade. The JawSaw is a unique design that almost makes it impossible to injure yourself, in that the small chain saw in shrouded in a protective shield on all the cutting surfaces. However, it has a maximum opening of around 4”, so is limited to small pruning and trimming. It was, however, the only chainsaw that my spouse would allow on the premises. As a surgeon, living in a non-urban setting, I have seen my share of ER visits from power tool mishaps, and the caution is well deserved. I liked that the tool was completely assembled and nearly ready to use. Fill the oil reservoir (I had a quart on hand, luckily) and charging the batteries were the only steps needed. The plastic safety lever to unlock the start trigger is easily maneuvered. Its light weight and easy start was a joy to use. Having no trees to fell, instead I dealt with branches of yard trees in the 5-6 inch range, beyond the opening of the JawSaw. 6 such largish branches were removed with 50% of battery life remaining on completion. The chainsaw quickly and smoothly dispatched them, and I cleared where trees had grown limbs encroaching too near the house. The batteries of the Worx power tool system have been designed to be interchangeable. If more than 20v is needed, you pair up 2 twenty volt batteries to get 40V, like this tool. They carry this concept to larger tools. Their self propelled lawn mower that uses an 80v power system, uses 4 of the 20v batteries. This interchangeability means you don’t have to have an arsenal of different sized and powered batteries to mix and match for your different tools. If you need longer run times, you can buy the 20v batteries in a range of amp-hours of power for higher power needs. It comes with a 5 year warranty, which seems quite robust for tools put to the test on a regular basis. My personal experience with their customer service with previous Worx tools and equipment has been exceptional, with a live person on the other end at a domestic based call center. Replacement parts easily available from Worx, as well as accessories such as extension poles, replacement chains and alternate chains for specialty like pruning, batteries and chargers. I especially like the “cigarette lighter plug” charger than skips an inverter on my solar “generator” that stores electricity from solar panels on my shed. So it optimizes the charging rather than the wastage of turning the DC power in the solar panel fed battery into AC to plug in the wall charger which then turns it back into DC to charge the battery. More bang for your solar lumens stored, and saves on your electric bill! I have been able to do ALL my outdoor yard work (hedge trimming, lawn mowing, garden cultivating, weed string trimming, pruning and small branch removal, leaf blowing, pressure washing, etc.) all WITHOUT any use of petroleum fuels for over 10 years. The beauty of staying with one maker of your tools is that consolidating on one manufacturer lets you buy only one format of battery. This saves money of duplicating your stable of batteries, lessens searching for a different battery when swapping out a fresh for a depleted battery, keeps the storage of batteries more organized, etc. And choosing a company like Worx avails you to the wide range of products they produce. Using a battery powered option saves money, time, resources, the environment, noise pollution, my hearing, etc. For those interested in the wisdom of battery operated lawn and outdoor tools I would recommend this article from the NY Times: The First Thing We Do, Let’s Kill All the Leaf Blowers Just Google the title, and this article from 2021 is a pretty thorough exposé of the chaos that “lawn care” is leveling on the earth. Well worth the read, and a premise that I have held for well over a decade. It was very validating to me to read this article. One quote: “A 2011 study by Edmunds found that a two-stroke gasoline-powered leaf blower spewed out more pollution than a 6,200-pound Ford F-150 SVT Raptor pickup truck.”

This is my first time owning a chainsaw or using one for that matter. The WROX WG384 is a must-own tool, especially if your house comes with trees and plants that need care, and if you regularly need firewood, better yet, you’ll find a great companion in this little beast. Perhaps I am exaggerating a little but as a novice lumberjack I am delighted with the WROX WG384. I’ve been able to finally cut various limbs and thick branches that I had been postponing due to my limited tool set. This tool is perhaps one of the most useful ones I’ve got to date, it has saved me a lot of time. I still have more branches, limbs, and logs to cut, and now I don’t see that task as a never-ending one, I know I could be done in a short period of time with this device. The WORX WG384 comes already assembled; however, you’d need to apply grease to the bar, and add oil to the chainsaw, as well as to rotate the chain tensioning knob until tight. With the former done, and after charging the batteries, it is ready to use. And remember, safety first, dress appropriately before using this small but powerful chainsaw. - Pros: light, powerful, cordless, easy to operate, auto tension, easy to disassembly, fast battery charge. - Cons: n/a >> Setup The WORX WG384 Cordless chainsaw comes already assembled, yet you still need to make some adjustments: - Add oil. - Apply grease to the bar. - Tight the chain tensioning knob. The oil and grease don’t come in the package (understandable.) For the oil, I bought a quart of Premium Bar & Chain Oil at my local hardware store. For the grease, I bought a Grease Gun already filled with grease, so no need to look for any special kind of grease. I didn’t realize, or I didn’t know, oil was such an important component for the chainsaw performance and durability. According to the manual, you need to make sure there is always oil in the receptacle, as the chain needs constant lubrication. So, I filled up the oil tank making sure not to introduce any foreign particles in the tank, and applied grease to the bar by pressing gently the Grease Gun to the small orifice in the bar (see the pictures.) One of the attributes of the WORX WG384 is that it comes with auto tensioning, but first, you need to make sure (upon successfully assembly of the chain and bar if not already assembled) that the knob is hand tight to avoid the chain coming off the bar when operating. For further guidance, refer to the manual that comes in the package or go online to the WROX website. I had to go online to find out about the type of oil to use as it wasn’t mentioned in the manual (I am that new to using chainsaws!), well no big deal, it ended up being any Bar & Chain oil available in any hardware store. >> First use After setting up the WROX WG384 with the oil, grease, the chain-tensioning knob tight, and the batteries charged, your next task is to keep yourself safe. I was a little reckless on my the first try using the chainsaw, as I didn’t use gloves. The device is not too big, but it is very powerful, so you’d better take extra precautions and dress appropriately and choose the right place to do the job or the right position if, for example, working on a live tree. Well, following the suggestions in the manual, I did a few practice rounds on different limbs and thick branches, and I plan on continue the practicing phase before upgrading to trees. This first time, in a couple of minutes, I was able to cut enough firewood for a wonderful evening with friends around the firepit. >> Hard/soft wood The manual explicitly states to have a try-out period with the chainsaw, and I’ve been doing that cutting different types of wood. I had several big branches and limbs of a recently cut very dense (hard?) wood tree (not sure what the name of the tree), that it was almost impossible to cut with my other tools, a reciprocating cordless saw and hand saws. It would just take too much effort to cut a few wood pieces for the fire. With this WROX chainsaw I was able to cut through them all without too much effort. I also had logs from small pine trees that fell some time ago, and effortlessly and with no complications, I was able to reduce them into easy-to-carry pieces for better storage and consumption (firepit.) So, I’d say, dense wood (or hard wood for that matter) is not a problem for this little beast. Now, you can imagine what happens with softer materials. Well, this chainsaw goes through them like a knife goes through butter. I had some old thick branches that I was able to cut into smaller pieces in a matter of minutes. So far though, the thickest log I’ve cut has been about 10–15-inch diameter. Again, I am still in the try-out (practice) period. I have a few thick logs that I need to take care of, they will be next soon! >> Maintenance As expected after use, the chainsaw gets dirty inside, more if the wood or climate is wet. Wood particles get inside the chain cover, and they will accumulate faster if the wood is wet or fresh. Based on my experience, I’d recommend cleaning the chainsaw after every use, and if it is going to be a prolonged use, then clean it up in the middle of the job (well you can clean up at the same time you are adding oil to the machine.) It is very easy to take the chain cover, disassemble bar and chain, clean, and assemble bar and chain back again. There are also some instructions in the manual/booklet as well as online, for tips on how to take care of your device. It’s been only a few uses in these few days, so I haven’t had the need to replace blades or anything major yet. Time will tell how durable this machine is, so far, I am very impressed and pleased to have it, it’s been a time saver.

Honestly, I have been skeptical of battery-powered chainsaws relating to their ability to perform in our home/property setting. Backstory, we have a three-acre yard which is bounded by our woods which requires continual maintenance. We have enough equipment to start a small forestry unit! In our toolbox we have professional grade 18” and 20” high powered chainsaws along with a 15’ pole saw. Ran the Worx - WG384 yesterday for the first time after charging the two batteries. Had an 8” solid trunked tree that I needed to remove from right behind my garage. After reading the instructions and checking the tool out thoroughly I ran the motor up again to get a feel and idea of how the machine operated. Surprise! It is quiet, a whisper compared to the gas-powered units. Still had questions as to the Worx’s capabilities. So, it was out to the tree. After carefully planning my cut, realized I had to drop the tree into a 12’ gap to avoid landing on my garage or my neighbor’s fence. With cut setup I started the motor and got to work… The Worx - WG384 seriously worked like a champ! Had dropped the tree in a few minutes, and the whole job was less than ten minutes falling, pruning limbs and bucking the tree. Delighted at the addition of Worx to my toolbox arsenal. Has earned a top shelf in our chainsaw collection and certain it will be my go-to saw for many, many jobs. P.S. I do not get too excited about tools often, but I especially like a tool that makes my work more efficient. What is great about the tool, after being decidedly capable of “cutting the mustard” and overall convenience, I find Worx to be a game changer. Particularly in terms of Grap n’ Go. If you work with a gas-powered chainsaw, you know the routine, hour of maintenance before every job. After cutting with gas saw it is never a joy to clean the unit of oil and saw dust. After cutting, pruning limbs, and bucking the tree with the Worx found there was minimal cleanup compared to gas. After felling the 8” tree checked the chain, and it was already loose and required tightening. The chain of course had been checked prior to first use. After making the final five bucking cuts the chain had not loosened up again. Possibly new chain stretch? With full charge the two batteries display 3-leds lit on each battery. After my first cut I had 2-leds lit on both batteries, so assume I can expect to get three decent size trees on a full charge. Then I can charge the batteries during my break. Notes: - Quality Build – Nice Finish - Brushless Motor – very cool - Handles are comfortable with good grip - Good weight and well balanced - Well designed safety trigger on and off system - Chain Self-tensioning - Easy open guard for chain maintenance – like that - Dual battery fast charger - very fast charging - User manuals need more effort being made in the content, not my favorite. - Comes with chain scabbard - Make sure to pick up some chain oil - Quiet - enough that you should be safety conscious of anyone in the work area To “cut” to the chase; the Worx - WG384 is a solid performing 14” chainsaw that made me a believer in battery powered saws. I spent a fraction of the time preparing, cutting and clean up than I have typically had when cutting trees.

If you own property with trees - chances are you will need to prune them one day or a limb will fall and you will need to be able to dispose of it. I was thinking of getting a chain saw for these purposes but gasoline one did not make sense as I only need one occasionally and don't really want to deal with draining gas for a long term storage between the uses. Worx electric chainsaw came in incredibly handy and is a pleasure to work with (I was getting by using sawzal before). Very well built machine, bar and chain made by Oregon (which is extremely common for many chainsaw brands), it has 2 metal studs to hold the bar firmly in place and automatic chain tension adjustment system. Setting tension was a bit finicky at first, key was to apply upward and forward pressure to the bar before tightening up the adjustment knob. Saw came with batteries and a charger but no oil included so that's the only item (and some PPE of course) that you need to get. My first test was to cut a pretty thick 6" branch off a tree and process it to small enough pieces. Saw is a pleasure to work with, very light and nimble, almost zero effort is required to operate. Handle wraps around and allows you to position the bar vertical or horizontal (but it's not a full wrap around like some professional saws have). Front of the saw does not have metal spikes for extra leverage. My whole project took me about an hour (to fully chop and limb the branch) and saw still had some battery life left! Just for fun I split a couple 2' logs and finally batteries died. Charging took about 1 hour, however it won't start charging process until batteries cool off so if you plan on a long project - purchase an extra set! Worx batteries work with any Worx tool (and higher capacities are available), however saw requires 2 batteries, it won't run on just one. Overall - it's a great choice for the small weekend jobs, it cuts thru the wood with ease and pleasure to handle. however if you rely on cutting wood for your heat - I would probably recommend something bigger and with faster chain speed.

The WORX - WG384 40V 14" Cordless Chainsaw with auto-tension, including 2 x 2.0 Ah batteries and 1 double charger in black is pretty good for a 1st timer, like me, using a chainsaw. To start with, I am a 64 year old woman who has never used a chainsaw. So, why did I want to order this to try it out? I live in rural Kansas on acreage with all kinds of trees and shrubs, and maintaining our property could literally be a full-time job all on its own. My husband is retired and has numerous small engine, gas, 2 cycle engine types of equipment. However, I do not have the strength to pull cords and I have, over the years, purchased other cordless Worx battery powered weed eaters and blowers to maintain my yard because of the ease of operation. The main concern between gas powered and battery operated is the amount of power and length of time in use. With 2 batteries on board, Worx has tried to deal with that issue. The chainsaw comes fully assembled with the chain already attached to the 14" and the sheath cover on the blade. There are mostly picture instructions, but for people like me that have never operated something like this, I wish that there were more words vs. pictures. The chainsaw is fairly lightweight so it is manageable even if your hands might be smaller. Clearly, safety is the main concern when using this type of machine and there are safety features built in, but I would say wearing gloves to protect your hands and eye wear protection is a must, do not skimp in this area. There should be plenty of power with the 2 batteries that must both be used at the same time. Do not think that you can get away with using only one and there is a usage indicator on the battery. What initially stumped me was the need to put in bar and chain oil. There is no bar and chain oil, not even a sample size, sent with this chainsaw. I wound up calling the Worx 800# to ask for guidance on this matter and they told me any brand would do to put in the reservoir. I did ask why no oil was included and the lady said that was because they do not make the bar and chain oil. She was very nice and helpful, giving me the tip that I should only fill it part way so that it would not leak out, and to check the well to make sure that I added more on a need be basis. The instructions tell you to tip the saw forward a little and see if some of the oil drips off the machine. At any rate, the dual port battery charger lowers the down time since both batteries are charging simultaneously. I would recommend the purchase of this equipment if cordless is the way to go for you. I also liked the auto tension feature which takes some of the decision making away from me, a novice in chainsaw use. It might be a pain, but I would recommend that you clean and maintain the chainsaw as you go with every use. The warranty is excellent, and there appears to be good technical support based on my one call thus far; there was immediate pick up on their end without long wait time.

I live on an acre lot with many trees, but have never wanted to invest in a chainsaw to trim my own trees because of the inconvenience of mixing the gas and dealing with a small engine. Then I find this WORX 40V and there it is, the perfect solution. This chainsaw comes with two 20V batteries that I charged up overnight and then the next day I poured bar and chain oil into the reservoir and that was it, I was ready to go! To start it, I did have to read some directions as its has some great safety features to turn it on. I quickly found that you have to pull back the chain brake and then push the button to the side of the trigger along with the trigger to get it going. That is great to prevent kids from ever starting it! Once you start it up, its instant power. I trimmed some branches around the yard with ease and then it was time to take it to our hunting land to give it a good work out with my Dad who has had many gas powered chainsaws. We were both very impressed. We cut down 3 dead trees that were one foot in diameter and this saw never skipped a beat. We proceeded to cut up each of the trees and after all of that work, the batteries still showed 2 lights of 3 for remaining power. So not only was it convenient, but it was also powerful for an adequate amount of time with battery to spare. What was also interesting, is after 15 minutes of continuous work, the brushless motor was not even warm to the touch. So after putting this saw to the test it impressively checks all the boxes for me and I don't have a single complaint. If you are in need of a chainsaw but don't want to mess with a small gas engine this saw will be perfect for you.

This small Worx cordless chainsaw it’s great for any homeowner that needs to cut some tree limbs or branches. With this chainsaw I was able to cut an old cedar tree stump from my yard, with the powerful and fast brushless motor I was able to cut down must of the stump within an hour, that’s how much the batteries last me for this job. This chainsaw has a quick stop chain brake that prevents any accidental cutting, a tool free chain tightening that gives you automatically chain tension and automated chain lubrication. The chainsaw it’s very light but powerful with the two 20V batteries, the batteries comes with battery level indicator so you can monitor the battery charge. Inside the box you get the 14” chainsaw, 2 20V rechargeable batteries , dual charger port and a blade protector. A couple of things that was disappointing was that it did not include at least a small sample bottle of chainsaw oil like other chainsaws out there, you will have to buy it separately, also the location of the oil tank it’s in a odd spot, to fill it up you will have to lay the chainsaw side way to fill it up, make sure you put a little at a time to not overfill it, then you have to put the lid back on to see if it’s a the right level, the tank capacity is 5.4 ounces. This small chainsaw comes in handy for any small tree jobs in your yard. I will definitely will have to get additional batteries to have them for back up.

I wasn't familiar with this brand before, but I am now. This chainsaw rocks. For starters, it just looks cool and while that's not terribly important in the grand scheme of things, it never hurts. I love the black and orange look. (Good for Halloween, too.) But it's also a sign of attention to detail and some smart execution. The whole thing is lightweight but solid. You're not going to forget it's in your hands, but it's not going to give you additional fatigue. By using two 20v batteries on either side of the handle, it distributes the weight a little better than on the one other electric chainsaw I've used that had a single, larger battery. While you can't just use a single battery to power the chainsaw, I do suppose it is nice/smart to have the option of using one of these on another Workx device that only requires a single 20v battery. I'm in the market for an electric blower so I'll for sure be looking at Workx as a way of potentially saving money and just overall ease of not having multiple proprietary batteries. Anyway, I have a very large downed pine tree on my property that was cut into large pieces which I'm gradually cutting into smaller pieces and moving to a different part of my yard. Their website has instructions on how to cut down a standing tree or a felled tree, and the math generally equates to the idea that you could cut through a felled tree with a diameter of about 25 or 26 inches. I'm not going to be tackling anything that big, and certainly nothing big that's still standing. But I had no difficulty cutting through solid pine that's about 10 inches thick. See my pictures for an image. Cuts clean and operation is easy and pretty standard. Pull the safety lock, wrap your hand around the trigger and side button and you're good to go. Chain stops instantly when you let your hand off the trigger. (Don't forget to push the safety lock back up though!) I tested it out for about a half an hour. I wasn't cutting the entire time, but once I was done I still had a full charge on both batteries. (And it's nice that they have a button you can press to see what the level of charge is. Very smart.) The batteries came about half charged and I filled them up in less than an hour on the included charger. Curious to see how long these last, but first results are great. Never felt like I needed more power either. Obviously, this set up is a massive improvement over noisy gas engines that are hard to crank. If there's any bone to pick here it's that the oil reservoir is designed in a way that makes it crazy difficult to fill without overfilling. I used a funnel and suggest doing the same, but even then and watching it closely, I still overfilled. I will say, I had the exact same experience with the other chainsaw I used and it may just be that there's not a more convenient design to be had. But I sure wish someone would come up with one. Messy oil aside, this is an easy recommend as a power tool for the average homeowner who needs it for yard work every now and then. If your needs are different than that then you're probably looking at a different model to begin with.

The WORX - WG384 40V 14" Cordless Chainsaw with Auto-Tension was pretty much ready to use when it arrived. It came in a nice box with plastic wrap and a chain guard to protect it. There was no assembly required, and all the needed to be done was charge the batteries and add bar oil. This chainsaw was well-designed and easy to carry. It was not too heavy or bulky. It had a sleek, smooth and unique design. It also had a rubberized handle, a wrap-around handle, and a battery indicator. It also came with two batteries and a charger. The charger was fast and charged the batteries in an hour.I thought it was a nice touch to have a spare battery, but it turns out both batteries need to be installed on the saw. This chainsaw is quite powerful and efficient. It had a brushless motor that gave it more power and reliability, and a 14-inch bar and chain that could cut through branches, logs and firewood up to 12 inches thick. The chain was also low-kickback, which made it less shaky and tiring. The WG384 has an automatic system that keeps the chain tight and an automatic system that oils the chain. An opaque oil resevoir shows the oil level.It could handle different kinds of cutting tasks with ease and efficiency. I had to limb multiple trees, and cut trunks up to 12" think, and the WG384 cut through them easily. This WORX - WG384 also has an issue that, unfortunately is very significant to its overall rating. It tossed the chain several times while cutting, and every time I had to cut the log from bottom up. I put the chain back on, made sure it had the correct tension, but it still happened. It ran out of battery quickly when I used it for harder cutting work. I had to change them often or charge them often. Still, it was far more convenient to work with than my corded WORX saw, but for heavier cutting our Husqvarna gas saw which is much heavier but also much faster was far more efficient. Overall, I think this is a great chainsaw for light home and garden use, and would be great as a portable if you're adventuring on trails with four wheelers, etc. and need to clear a trail. It has many good features that make it a good tool, but the chain issue really need addressed. It is frustrating and inconvenient. While it is extremely convenient for tasks around the house, when the chain jumps, that's all negated. This make it hard to recommend. If not for the chain issue, I would recommend this chainsaw to anyone who wants a cordless chainsaw that can do different cutting work with ease and convenience.

This is somewhat of a hard review to write as the tool does everything WORX says it can, but if you do EVERYTHING it says it can, you’ll get about 10-15 minutes use out of it. If you do only what the product demo video show you will probably get the “double the runt time” it claims it can do; I’m guessing this is based off of the older 20v 12” model. IF you read the 26” cut depth and think, “I can use this to cut down a tree”, you’re not wrong. However, it will take about 10 sets (20) of batteries and 10 chargers to supply you with enough juice to keep the batteries charged and you from taking a break every 15 minutes with an hour layover each time. These devices suck down the battery with sustained use on anything 8in and up, but again will last “double the run time” on the stuff 4in or less. Looking at the collage of cut logs with the saw, I did that job in about 5 minutes (literally just what you see) and both batteries went from 3 bars to 1 bar. I had 2 little trees about 15 ft tall and 3”-4” bases to cut too. I cleaned up the logs and moved on to the little trees and checked the battery levels again before start and now it read 2 bars on each. I got the little ones down and cut-up without issue. The batteries read 1 bar again, so I wanted to see how long that 1 bar would last at that point and started to cut an older log that was 14 inches long and 10” diameter. I got about 15 seconds in and one battery died. The other still had some juice but it couldn’t power the saw but for 3 seconds at a time. All in I got about 10-15 minutes max out of the batteries. The other collage is a Bradford Pear I just took down. I did it with my (already owned) WORX 14” 8 amp Corded and borrowed 9” battery chainsaw (night and day difference over a battery Reciprocal Saw). The 40V WORX 14”, if I had it at the time, would have been able to do it too, but like already stated I would have needed a stream of batteries and chargers to get it done. I’m struggling to recommend this or not and to be honest, and it has nothing to do with how well it cuts or really the product itself, in so much as the battery life. Prior to acquiring this 40V WORX 14” I was researching other brands and a lot of the reviews were stating the same as what I have discovered with this use, great for tiny/small jobs, but a 20+ft tree with 6+in base, you’re going to need the batteries. And this is where my dilemma comes in because it is literally just the battery technology that cannot keep up. WORX has put in the brushless motor which definitely helps with power output and loss of consumption, but trying to replace an equivalent chain size gas-powered is going to be tough for getting anything really done. I definitely like the WORX brand as I have been using it for about 10 years now for my two saws…14in corded chainsaw and 8in corded pole saw. However, they their limitations too on extension cord length and the placement of your outside plugs. Now that I have this, I don’t know if would get rid of the corded one, but I’m definitely looking at replacing the pole saw and my gas leaf blower. PRO TIP: the Chain Break Lock requires a hefty pull to engage. I actually couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong here as the chainsaw wouldn’t work. The instructions didn’t mention you need some good force to engage as by all appearances the break is plastic and looks pretty flimsy, but it is sturdier than it looks. I’d do your research and see if this size is what you actually need to do your job. WORX as a brand I can definitely recommend! I would be more prefer a 2.5 Star, but I’ll round up to 3 Stars. Again, just because it cannot sustain use on bigger jobs and so you may not need the 14".

I decided to try this WORX - WG384 40V 14" Cordless Chainsaw after my gas chainsaw kept giving me issues. I LOVE the fact that you don't have to worry about changing gas, mixing gas, changing spark plugs etc. Just charge and cut. Now if you plan to cut down trees, quater the rounds, and continue all day, this is not for you. But I will never need a chainsaw for that. That's why this WORX - WG384 40V 14" Cordless Chainsaw is perfect for me. A neighbor had an oak tree fall so he cut it up into 30 to 36 inch pieces. I put the Worx chainsaw to work to cut up those rounds and the blade cut through those 8" pieces like butter. We also have oak trees in our yard and during winter limbs and branches are falling constantly. This will be perfect for cutting those up to manageable size for seasoning or disposing of them. The battery life is iffy when cutting big pieces of wood. I cut 3 big pieces of a trunk( see pic) down to quaters and when done after about 45 minutes both batteries were down to 1 green light. I actually thought that was pretty good as that will probably be the most big rounds I would cut at 1 time. I'm sure if you are just doing limbs and big branches you could get an hour or more use out of 1 charge. Once again switching to a battery operated chainsaw is so gratifying knowing that it will just start working if the batteries are charged. The frustrations of not knowing if your gas is fresh enough or your spark plug is firing correctly is completely relieved with this WORX - WG384 40V 14" Cordless Chainsaw.

First of all, set your expectations. An battery operated chainsaw is not equivalent to a gas powered chainsaw. If you're expecting the same productivity then you will be disappointed. The chainsaw comes well packaged and I like that the printed directions were fairly clear and concise. It comes with two batteries (both of which are used at the same time during operation), a dual charger and a plastic blade cover. One thing that is NOT included is bar and chain oil, which is necessary for operation. It would have been nice if a small bottle was included. Prior to operation I topped off the batteries with a 15min charge until they were fully charged. To start the chainsaw you need to pull back on a large lever and it clicks into place, and then you can start the motor. Be aware that it sounds like you're breaking something when you pull that large lever back but it doesn't harm anything. I put the chainsaw through a very demanding test, one that you would nor normally do. I had a limb that was about 12 inches in diameter, very dry, and I attempted to cut it in half length wise. Again, this is not how you would normally do it and it's very demanding because almost the whole length of the chain was contacting the wood. As you can see in the picture I got about 3/4 of the way through the limb before the batteries died. This took perhaps 6min of continuous hard cutting. That may not sound like much but if you were cutting a 3 in limb it would only take a few seconds to get through that and so it would last much longer if you were cutting up smaller limbs. Even so, I was quite disappointed in the battery life. Also, at several points the chain seized up. One nice feature is that when this happens the chainsaw stops for safety, but the chain seized up about 5 times in the course of cutting this large limb. And yes, I was using chain oil. A full recharge on the batteries took about an hour and 15min.

Great little chainsaw, I use it to cut down small to medium trees and works great. Holds a charge for quite a while too.

This has been one of the best buys of recent times. Best Buy had a killer sale price and I bought it on a bit of lark...so glad that I did. It made dealing with my unruly & fire-prone junipers so easy! Very well designed and easy to maintain.

Awesome little chainsaw to have on hand! Once someone showed me how to use it I will use it for everything around the house!
