A: Thank you for the question. The Envy 16-ac0013dx has an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor. The main differentiator is that Core Ultra processors are the very latest development, and have a neural processing unit (NPU) which accelerates artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications. The Ultra Core processors still have P cores and E Cores like the previous generation Intel processors, which manage background and foreground tasks without sacrificing speed.

First of all, a big thanks to Best Buy for offering this laptop at an unbelievable price! Now, onto the laptop itself. I’ve been using it for the past 25 days, and here are my impressions: 1. Build Quality: The laptop is sturdy with a screen that doesn’t wobble. The hinge feels strong enough to withstand frequent usage (it’s a 2-in-1 360 convertible). For a 16-inch model, it’s quite lightweight. It comes with two Type-C ports, two USB ports, one HDMI port, and a 3.5 mm jack. While I’m happy with these, I did expect an SD card slot given the ample free space. 2. Display: The IPS LCD display is bright, contrasty, vibrant, and more color-accurate compared to OLED panels from Samsung or Asus. Although it supports HDR playback, I couldn’t play HDR clips on YouTube despite having the settings enabled. The touch response is excellent, and it supports any pen accessory compatible with MPP 2.0 (tilt pens 2.0). The pen isn’t included but can be purchased on Amazon for as low as $15. However, the screen is very reflective, making me wish for more brightness. The oleophobic coating is also average, as the screen accumulates fingerprints quickly. Therefore, having a screen protector is must. 3. Speakers: The speakers are excellent, producing rich and loud sound that easily outperforms the MacBook Air M3. There are some DTS audio customizations available, though I didn’t feel the need to use them. 4. Performance: The new Intel Ultra 5 processor is impressive. It handles day-to-day tasks effortlessly and runs heavy applications like Adobe Suite and my work-related software smoothly. The processor is also highly battery-efficient with minimal heating, and I never heard the fan running. However, since the processor is new, some software and driver optimizations are needed, as I’ve encountered occasional unresponsive tasks in Adobe Illustrator. The RAM (16 gb DDR5 6400 MHz) is fast and well-managed, but I expected a faster SSD. The RAM is attached with the motherboard (32 gb model makes more sense now!) and can’t be replaced. However, the SSD can be replaced with a faster and larger one, but no free slots are there. I also feel the intel GPU is strictly average. 5. Webcam: The webcam is adequate and includes a physical shutter for privacy, but I expected better quality. Microsoft’s features like background blur and eye focus are there but I feel these tend to worsen the overall image output. 6. Battery Life: The battery life is fantastic! I regularly get over 12 hours on a single charge with my usage, which exceeded my expectations. Kudos to the new Ultra series processors. 7. Software: HP pre-installed a lot of bloatware in addition to what Microsoft already included, so it took about a painful hour to remove the unnecessary stuff. 8. Packaging: The packaging for an Envy series laptop was below average. It only included the laptop, charging cable, and brick—no pen or carrying pouch. However, the Type-C braided charging cable and 65W adapter are of extremely high quality and can quickly charge the battery. Other Type-C PD chargers are also compatible with this laptop. Overall, I highly recommend this model (8.5/10) for anyone seeking a slim, powerful machine under $650 for office work and recreation. The battery life is excellent, the screen quality is impressive, and the build quality is well above average, complemented by excellent-sounding speakers. While the laptop includes numerous AI features, I didn’t find most of them particularly useful. However, the fully functional Microsoft Copilot, offering GPT-4 compatible AI assistance, is genuinely beneficial. Additionally, the touchpad is generously sized and supports convenient gestures for easier navigation. The keyboard is tactile with ample spacing between keys, although I did miss having a numpad on a laptop of this size. It also features adjustable backlighting, making it suitable for low-light environments. This laptop is not suitable for gaming or hardcore video editing. If you can stretch your budget a bit further, the HP Spectre 16 model offers a superior screen, an upgraded Intel ARC GPU, and enhanced packaging, including an HP stylus and sleeve. Cheers!

We compared this laptop to others that were twice the price and this checks off all the boxes for what my son needed for college. Everything works as it should (runs efficient and fast) and it looks nice which is a bonus. It has a little weight to it, but it’s not too bulky and it’s nice and slim for how big it is. Great computer at a great price. HP has been a dependable brand for us.
