Yes. They are VERY good at blocking out 'predictable' sounds, like airplane engines, fans, mowers, air conditioners. Sounds that can be modeled and then the inverted model stream used to cancel them out. Occasional sounds like a bird chirping, baby crying, door slamming, will be reduced. But by their nature, they can't be worked into a stream that can be used to totally cancel them. So the effect will be less. Over all, between the active electronics and passive tips that fill the ear, outside sounds are very effectively reduced to a surprising degree.
