“It says it only comes with the USB-C cable. Does that mean you need an adapter to actually plug it in? It doesn't even come with the equipment necessary to charge it?”

That’s right. But if you have an iPhone, your old charger will work. Or you can plug it in to your Mac with the cable that comes with it.
