• P.S.: you might also be able to use casting to the external monitor, but I have too little experience in this to say for sure.

• You could only use an external video card if the USB-C port supported Thunderbolt specs (it doesn't have to be certified, just meet the specs).

• The USB-C port on the ASUS Vivobook 14 (X1404ZA) does not support display output. However, if you're looking to connect more than one additional display, using an external video card (eGPU) is a great option.
