Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You do not need a subwoofer and receiver to get going with this unit. It has a pre-amp, so you can just run that out to a pair of speakers. I use Bose Companion 2 Series 3 speakers for normal playback. However, you can bypass the pre-amp, and then go into your own amp, then your own home theater setup. If you are doing analog to digital vinyl rips like I'm doing, and the reason I bought this unit, it allows for future upgrades like using an external amp and changing the needle out for something different. I use this player nearly everyday since I got it and have had no issues thus far.
