Yes you can see planets and stars. You can see pretty much whatever. You program your phone to it and it will tell you what is nearby and you have to know how to adjust in order to find whatever you are looking for.

A telescope like the DX130AZ will show closeups of the Moon and planets from within a bright urban environment, but high-power views will require additional accessory eyepieces. The eyepieces that come with the telescope will work great from a dark sky location to show bright nebulae and star clusters.
