Clock speed is how fast your MoBo and RAM are sending info to one another. Over clocking happens when you add a new RAM stick and its specs are different from the one originally in your PC. Try to stick with getting same brand and specs. USUALLY a sticker on the side of them, put that into google and look at the ones that show up and go from there. Also keep in mind of your PC's max RAM when upgrading.
