“the GE Spacemaker II has gone out, JEM31SF001, and will need a replacement or repair. I was looking at the GE PEM31SFSS and it is close to the same dimensions. Does it need a 2 inch clearance on the sides as it is in a spot that is 2 ft wide?”

Hi Spacemaker- Microwaves need adequate air clearance on each side, the rear and the top to function properly. This allows good circulation for the intake and discharge air vents. When installed on counter, we recommend 3" of clearance on both sides and the top and 1" clearance in the rear.
