“When trying to set up Nest, it asks you to choose the Network name which is printed on the back of the device; however, it is always buffering. You cannot enter the Network name. How do you get it to quit buffering and allow me to enter the Network name?”

the network name is not the name that is on the back. It is your wifi network name. If you do not have a wifi network you cannot use this Nest smoke alarm.
