• Thank you for the question. The HP 17-cp3005dx has one M.2 slot. Before removing the SSD for an upgrade, upload files to the cloud or flash drive. We recommend that a professional technician perform upgrades.

• HP is correct, as far as they went. If you wanted to switch out the drive, you clone the original one before the physical change, not affecting either the OS or any data you have on the old drive (although you should always perform a backup before any such operation, just in case).

• Couldn;t really tell you as I do not know what your needs are. You can but more powerful versions, but I suggest an external SSD portable might suit your needs.
