Is the processor the same as was used in the Microsoft Surface 3?The surface 3 also had an Atom Processor although it was a different type of tablet.The Surface has been discontinued,and i,m curious if this would be an alternative?..thank you null

no, the surface 3 tablet uses an X7 @ 2.40GHz 
this insignia is an X5 @ 1.84GHz 
both are intel cherry trail and are in the same family
this is a great alternative if you want to use it for entertainment but not good if you want to do serious work like power point or excel

Yes the processor is the same and I've owned both tablets they perform the same I am really impressed with the performance of the insignia.

It is much heavier and less refined than the surface. There is no pencil. I got it as a gift for my sister because the screen of her first gen Macbook Air cracked while finishing her PHD. She said that with windows 10 it was an improvement over the Air. It's not a surface but it is a quarter of the price of an entry level surface.
