“I bought this device to connect an appleTV(4K) to an AV receiver (Onkyo TX-SR505E) vía an optical cable. The 5.1 audio output mode can’t play movie dialogs. It only works on stereo mode. I want to be able to use my theater system (5.1). Please advise”

Switch to 5.1CH. and use the OPTICAL OUT jack. This mode is best for connecting to a soundbar, receiver, or other playback device that is compatible with surround sound signals.
