Generally speaking, the Windows OS will support BASIC operation of almost any printer, right out of the box. By this I mean that it will allow you to send-to-print to any printer. However, more advanced functions, such as reporting on ink/toner levels, out of paper messages, paper jams, etc., or when the unit is a multipurpose device (e.d., scanner, fax, printer) will need you to install the printer drivers as provided by the device itself.

Some users have run into issue with older printer drivers not being available for automatic download in Windows. You could try to install these drivers from the manufacturer's site. Others have found that downloading the HP Smart app in the Microsoft Store on the computer can help as well. Should you run into any issues, please contact your printer manufacturer for assistance, as they should be best equipped to help with that.
