You need two outlets for the Energy Star® Certified LG - 4.5 Cu. Ft. HE Smart Front Load Washer and 7.4 Cu. Ft. Electric Dryer WashTower™ with Steam and Built-In Intelligence - White Model # WKE100HWA. You need one for the washer, which requires a standard 120 V, 15-Amp grounded outlet for the power cord and plug that are attached to the unit, and a dryer outlet that requires a 240 V, 30-Amp heavy-duty outlet. The dryer will need a 3-prong (NEMA 10-30R) or 4-prong cord (NEMA 14-30R) purchased separately, as the manufacturer does not include one with the machine. The 3-prong 240 V dryer outlet, NEMA 10-30R, is a 3-wire, 125/250 V, 30-ampere configuration commonly found in homes built before 1996. While NEMA 10-30 receptacles and cords can still be found in older homes, the National Electrical Code (NEC) has mandated 4-prong outlets (NEMA 14-30) for all new dryer installations since 1996. Existing 3-prong (NEMA 10-30) dryer outlets are legally grandfathered under the National Electrical Code (NEC). You are not legally forced to upgrade your outlet simply because the code changed, and you can continue using your current outlet safely as long as the wiring remains undamaged.
