There is a fairly new app in the TV for Xfinity, if you are a Comcast subscriber. If you use the app, you don't need a cable box, as it's considered online streaming, no different than if you were streaming from your laptop or phone. You would then be able to save on the rental of a cable box for that TV.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you want to keep receiving service from them, yes. The TV has a digital tuner but can not broadcast your cable/Satellite providers programing. There is an app called channel plus Wich is free and you need is a Internet connection. Depending on who your service provider, I have Spectrum and DirecTv, I believe certain LG TV's have an DirecTV app in which you don't need a Directv Receiver but you must have a Directv genie. Now spectrum tv has an app as well, only difference lg TV doesn't have it, you will need to buy a Roku stick, Apple TV or Google Chromecast to be able to receive their service. Be aware all apps I mentioned above need internet connections.
