“Viewing live TV programs from OTA looks perfect looped through the device but playback from usb of that same program has intermittent digital artifacts, glitches and freezes that I definitely didn’t see while watching live. Happens on all OTA channels.”

Try another USB storage. It is picky and doesn't work with all FAT32 devices
