I have mine plugged into an iPhone charger base and it seems to work better (meaning faster charge) than when I plugged it into the Switch.

Yes you can. I plugged mine straight into the wall and charged perfectly

Yes you can charge it using a power block rather than charging it through the Switch. I plug mine into the wall to charge it, I do not use the switch to charge it. For some people the Switch is the closest source and it does come with a 10' usb-c charging cable. I am not sure if plugging it into the switch connects it through the cable or if it still connects wirelessly... might be worth trying out.

no for the switch to recognize the controller it has to be plugged into the dock if you want to add more USB i have purchased a USB extender and have added 4 more controllers to it that way
