The wired ones must be plugged in. But they do sell ones that run on batteries.

They make different models, one is battery or solar. The one I have is wired and used indoors. But it comes with an outdoor plug and extra cable if you want to use it outside.

The one we purchased is wired (plugged in) and used indoors. I believe they also sell a battery model.

No you dont there is an ethernet connection in the plug compartment of the cam but you have to purchase the right cam not a stick up wired cam it's the stick up battery cam I made the same mistake the wired cam is more money so that's a plus
