The app shortcut buttons are a paid promotional contract between Roku and the service providers on those buttons. Those service providers pay a certain amount to be placed on each individual remote, and the contract stipulates that once placed, it is impossible for the user to reprogram those buttons. Different product models may have different vendors on them, and these paid service providers get exclusivity on your remote for the life of that remote.
