I can answer for the slingbox 500 and why I bought that particular unit. If you have cable you, Direct TV, Dish, or whatever you can broadcast it over the Internet an watch it through your smartphone, computer, or roque box. I believe you can also watch other types of streaming like Utube, Netflix, and Sling has its own stations to stream.
