Not sure what you are citing with regard to the inputs for the 6" vs. 8". To my knowledge (I have 6 of the MAG6R in my home theater ceiling), the input connectors are identical between the 6.5" and 8" version of the speakers, specifically two spring-loaded terminals on the speaker to which you connect your speaker wire leads. No difference if using for new construction or existing. Only additional advice that comes to mind is that for new construction, it's typical for your builder to install the specific (6.5" or 8.5") speaker brackets during the framing phase so that the speakers can be inserted/installed in the end. Those brackets are sold separately by Sonance, so you'd have to locate them and purchase. Hope that helps, and best of luck on your new build!
