Hi Don, thank you for your inquiry. For X90J or any of our Sony Android/Google TV, there is an option to enable the "Automatic Software Update" to keep the software updated to the most current version, but you can also install it manually if you choose not to enable it. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.My new Bravia Sony XR 55 X90J alerts me to updates, giving me the choice to download and install or not. I prefer this to my 10 year old Samsung that ruined and deleted most of the original features by forcing updates automatically. Plus somehow Network and Channel functions became unusable on my Samsung. I hope my very new April 2021 Sony does much better. So far I am not updating my XR 55 X90J when alerted.
