“Hi just bought this tv and find it has garbled sound at times. Is this a known problem with this tv? are there any suggestions in the settings to fix this? Love the tv but may have to return it to find one that has better sound.”

Not that I know of, however, I run the sound through my Denon receiver.

If the TV is stil with you and you have a cable box connected to the TV and the issue occurs when chaing channels, you may follow the guide here to isolate this issue: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00008267. If this is not a cable box issue, please turn off the TV, unplug the power cord for two minutes, then turn on the TV.
