There should be a pamphlet on how to activate your phone or you can call Virgin mobile and they can walk you thru it. I bought my phone from Best Buy and they activated my phone. 

You have to purchase minutes every month. I usually buy several prepaid cards at once. Virgin mobile will deduct your monthly amount and send you a text.

The best thing to do is go onto the Virgin Mobile website and follow the instructions for activating your new phone. You will get your phone number in the process.

You would need to call virgin mobile to activate the phone and use pre-paid cards each month or pay online each month on the virgin mobile website using a credit/debit card. There is no simm card because it is on the CDMA network, which doesn't use sim cards. The GSM networks use sim card.
