While the suggestion is to place the speakers at ear level for best immersion and ambiance, if mounted at height it would be recommended to direct the speakers directly toward your favorite seating position.

Ear level would be the best, but the levels of speaker volume can be set to minimize the difference in height. Move the speakers around until you get a satisfactory sound. May not be perfect, but will work. Just make sure that they are behind you for the surround effect. The higher they are, the further they should be behind you (better surround effect).
