I recently purchased the Acer Nitro 5 gaming laptop from Best Buy and I have to say, I'm thoroughly impressed. As an avid gamer, I was in the market for a powerful and reliable machine that could handle the latest titles, and the Nitro 5 has exceeded all my expectations. Design and Build Quality: The Acer Nitro 5 has a sleek and modern design that immediately caught my eye. The all-black chassis with red accents gives it a striking, gamer-centric look without being overly flashy. The build quality is excellent, and the laptop feels sturdy and well-constructed, which is important for a device that's meant to be portable. The large 15.6-inch display is bright, vibrant, and provides an immersive gaming experience. Performance: This laptop is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card. I've been able to run the latest games, including Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Battlefield V, with ease. The performance is smooth, responsive, and the laptop handles even the most demanding games without any noticeable lag or frame drops. The fast SSD storage also ensures quick boot times and fast loading of games and applications. Cooling and Thermals: One of the standout features of the Nitro 5 is its excellent cooling system. The dual-fan design and strategically placed air vents ensure that the laptop stays cool even during intense gaming sessions. I've never experienced any issues with overheating, which is a common problem with many gaming laptops. Battery Life: While gaming laptops are not known for their stellar battery life, the Nitro 5 manages to deliver a respectable runtime. I can typically get 4-5 hours of use when working on productivity tasks or streaming videos, and around 2-3 hours when gaming, which is quite decent for a machine in this class. Connectivity and Ports: The Nitro 5 has a comprehensive selection of ports, including HDMI, USB 3.2, USB-C, and an Ethernet port. This allows for easy connectivity with external displays, peripherals, and wired network connections. The inclusion of Wi-Fi 6 also ensures fast and stable wireless performance. Overall, the Acer Nitro 5 is an outstanding gaming laptop that offers excellent value for the price. It delivers impressive performance, a sleek design, and robust cooling capabilities, making it a fantastic choice for both casual and hardcore gamers. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone in the market for a reliable and powerful gaming machine.

My first gaming laptop, and it’s more amazing than I thought it would be. I mainly bought it to play Baldurs Gate 3 ( which came out for Xbox about four months later, FML) and it runs relatively smooth on the highest graphic settings. A couple of hiccups every now and then, but even with the stutters, I love it. Recently started playing league of legends and it eats that game up with zero problems. I do have to say that I run all my games with the power cord plugged in; I’ve tried to run BG3 without the power cord, and it’s not a very enjoyable experience ( frame rate is like 20). My standards were pretty low before getting this laptop, but as a moderate gamer who cares mostly about the overall feel of a game rather than solely focusing on graphics and frame rate, this laptop was everything I needed it to be.

This was packed well, and arrived safely - although FedEx did stress test the box... I won't go into all the specs, the list is available here on Best Buy. Did usual startup, updates, and everything seemed okay. Got to the point of installing the game "Doom", started the game and had a black screen. Did some investigating, and looked like the Nvidia GPU did not "see" the laptop display. Did a reset, and re-installed drivers etc., and all worked properly. Okay, so now to the business of putting this through it's paces. Sound was reasonable from a laptop, and loud enough, but really came alive through headphones. The keyboard worked well, but seemed a little "clacky". Travel and responsiveness felt good and made typing comfortable. Touch pad was smooth and responsive, and the click functions were also good. The screen impressed me, with almost no light bleed and good color. And even being "only" a 1080P resolution, it was sharp. With 144 Hz refresh rate, gaming was smooth. I had re-installed Doom, and started the game. For what seems like a basic gaming machine, again I was impressed. Putting settings to high, the game ran from 160 FPS, to over 190 FPS. Action was fast and no blurring. Excellent for an I5, and a GeForce RTX 3050. While gaming, the top stayed relatively cool, but the bottom got uncomfortably hot on my lap. Be advised, I would recommend a good cooler. The case seems to be plastic, but is sturdy enough with little flex. It has quite a few ports - Thunderbolt port, HDMI, 2USB A, 1 USB C, and Ethernet port. There is even a hard drive adapter cable included. All is not perfect though. I feel there are a few areas lacking. With today's larger games, and only having a 512 SSD, a micro slot would have been a good addition for extra storage. Also, the red lit keyboard would benefit if the color could be customized, as the red seems very bright - even on lowest setting. Two other areas.... Although many may find it useful, I'm not sure a number pad works well on a gaming laptop. It shifts the keys and touch pad to the left. Also, when the backlight times out, tapping the touch pad will not turn it back on. You have to tap a key.... Battery life seems short. Doing downloading with screen at mid brightness and nothing else running, I only got a little over 2 1/2 hours. If gaming, be prepared to have the power brick with you. All in all, a pretty solid mid-priced performer that lives up to the label of "gaming machine".

Really good. Very fast. Handles all my games very well. Did a price comparison later on after I bought it and this was the best price for the specs. Will go back when I have a chance. Guy who helped me was very knowledgeable about the specs and what I should get. Pretty sure he was trying to upsell me on other ones and the credit card but I understand commissions so I could care less, I got denied anyway.

So after having to sell my ps4, for the summer electric bill. I began to game on pc, ill never go back. This laptop is amazing, I had an Acer Apspire for two years, it was good but gaming was difficult. I love the display, amazing graphics, this is my first gaming laptop, I love it so much. I play Sims 4, DMC, Bloodrayne 2, American Mcgees Alice Returns, and just started playing Cyberpunk 2077. Everything works smoothly, so fast and so clean. If you are looking for a budget gaming pc, Acer Nitro 5 has your back.

I feel like the only thing holding back this laptop would be the temperatures during gaming. My cpu will spike to 90-100 degrees Celsius while gaming so I have to have the fans on preformance mode at all times. Maybe the high temps are because this laptop is due for a fan cleaning (I bought it back in February 2024).

This laptop has been a BEAST! Love this thing so much. No problems at all. This thing can run next to any game. I primarily play FPS games and it gets well over 200+ fps. The screen is crisp and clear. The keyboard is nice. Not loud or noisy at all. I HIGHLY recommend this to any gamers on a budget.

This is simply an amazing laptop. It is great at multitasking, works incredibly fast, and plays a lot of games flawlessly. An excellent entry-level gaming laptop for anyone interested. The only issue I have with this is that the battery life could be better, but that's how most gaming laptops are

I’ve had this gaming laptop for about a month. I’ve gotten dozens & dozens of hours of gameplay out of it already. It’s super fast & was pretty simple to set up. I enjoy the light up keyboard & large screen plus the graphics in game are much more detailed than the gaming console I play the same game with. The battery when not plugged in lasts me about 2hrs

Runs Sims 4 Well, That’s All I Ask

I had my previous laptop for 11 years, i bought it for schoolwork and by the end it was barely able to open firefox without literally 30 minutes of begging on my part. Needless to say it never ran the sims 4 well. It certainly tried but I’d been secretly doing research (s not to break my old laptop’s heart). I’d seen this laptop being recommended as a more budget friendly (even tho i still cried over the price tag) option that runs the Sims 4 in all of its hopelessly big glory. And I’m very satisfied to say that it does just that! I haven’t downloaded any mods yet, but it runs well with my many expansions and i am no longer afraid of burning my thighs while i play or entering build buy mode. This laptop also, expectedly, runs VNs and less beefy games really well. I haven’t done anything with it off the charger, so I can’t speak on that aspect but everything else i can wholeheartedly recommend. I love this little dude and I hope we have many years of messy sims saves together!

I'm impressed by Acer's included accessories (includes sata ribbon for SSD/HDD expansion) and prepackaged software. They're genuinely useful, which is rare for OEMs. It runs cool and quiet unless playing a game. Any kind of graphics workload is where it suffers. It's an Nvidia 3050ti, and it's the mobile version, so it's more equivalent to a 1030- just a display adapter with some oomf. The power draw and power brick for this are pretty intense despite being a lower end gaming laptop, so it's not suitable for use, or charging, inside of a vehicle with a DC converter. Keyboard feels nice but is missing things like a Home and End keys, which may upset those software engineers and powerusers. The placement of the shift and ctrl keys is strange due to the pavement of the arrow keys- it takes some adjusting but it is easily possible to get used to it. On an all black screen, there's light bleed on the edges, but it's only seen from steep angles- during display of any image, the light bleed is entirely unnoticeable. In short, it's good for productivity, it's excellent for modularity and upgrades, and the OEM software is worth using and not disabling (the first time I've given that recommendation).

After 1 month of using this pretty balanced gaming laptop, it has performed fairly well in most of the games I played. Overall, it is great for both office and gaming use but I wouldn't recommend using it for anything else. The price point is pretty good for what this laptop has to offer but due to its lower cost, don't expect anything fancy. With that said, my main con with the Acer 5 Nitro is it's poor battery life which seems to survive for about an hour without being connected to a power source. Also, you probably shouldn't expect high fps if you are running your graphic settings on ultra/high, but in some cases it can perform. I have also noticed that the display brightness isn't spectacular but it is decent. This is a great starter gaming laptop especially if it is in your budget since higher end laptops jump up in cost by a couple hundred dollars. Would recommend if you are looking for an affordable gaming laptop that performs well.

Has been great after months of almost everyday use. I use this for both gaming and school work. It has been great for me. I do play only a couple rotation of games like forza, gta rp, Fortnite and call of duty all of these games have run great for me. I did have it freeze once while loading up gta but it was a one time and it hasn’t happened again. Idk about super demanding games like cyberpunk or Elden ring but it seems like messing with the setting you can most likely play at 60fps in those games. For me school I use it for meetings at home and coding while it’s a bit big and I’m planning of getting a smaller laptop is has been great for school. I would recommend to only buy this at discount I got it for $250 off and I think buying this when it’s almost 1k when there is better laptops for the price is not worth. If you can find this in discount it’s something you should consider buying

I have owned Acer Nitro 5 laptops in the past and they are great computers! I was able to upgrade this laptop to 64GB of DDR4 RAM. I added a 1TB M.2 SSD and a 2TB SATA Hybrid drive. I bought this computer for mainly academic and experimental purposes. I am a college student majoring in Network Administration and as a Power User I need a computer that can handle the workload that I throw at it. This is a great entry-level gaming system and I am using it to be part of a in-home computer network I am setting up. I highly recommend it!

Budget Gaming Laptop Lacks Guts To Go All The Way

Having spent a handful of days using the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 I’m pretty confident that if you’re looking to play the newest and hottest games you should probably look elsewhere. If you’ve been playing games that have gone on sale but aren’t necessarily the cutting edge tech then you’ll really enjoy this laptop I think. Technically speaking this seems pretty solid: it has a 12th Gen Intel I5-12450H 2.5 Ghz, 16gb of RAM, 475gb usable SSD, and an RTX 3050 Ti to handle your graphics. Like a lot of other “gaming” laptops once you take it out of the box you’ll feel just how heavy this thing is, it’s thick and it's weighty so don’t plan on taking this in your backpack for a school or work laptop unless you’re planning to tire yourself out. On the laptop you have a number of ports including three USB-A (one on the left and two on the right side) and a USB-C on the back of the laptop, a HDMI port on the back, a headphone jack, a laptop locking point, and an ethernet port (to utilize Killer Double Shot Pro, a feature that allows both wireless and ethernet to be hooked up and the laptop will use the fastest one). And if that’s not enough specs for you the laptop comes with two 8gb Ram sticks but you can upgrade to 32gb between the two, there’s room for a 2nd M.2 SSD, a 2.5” SATA bay, and this is as good a place as any to mention it uses a Dual Fan and multiple exhaust ports to keep everything cooled off. I also appreciate the num pad on the right, the keyboard is backlit (you can set a timer how soon or if it shuts off), and there’s an internal temperature control program built in. OK, so it seems like a solid laptop on paper so what’s the catch? This laptop is not going to do more than bridge your journey into PC gaming as games from the past year such as Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, or Resident Evil 4 Remake require more CPU power and more VRAM than the system comes equipped with. You will find some bright spots though such as Diablo 4, Spiderman Remastered, and Grand Theft Auto V which will run but overall the new stuff needs more than Nitro 5 can offer. My Adobe CS lapsed but I imagine you would have no problem using photo editing like Photoshop and depending on your 3D design software you should get some results although I can’t speak to how much lag it may or may not have given the limited GPU VRAM. If price is no object you should find a more powerful laptop, look for something with an i7 over 3ghz and more than 8gb of “on-GPU-memory” (this one has 4gb and most of the recommended settings look for 8.9gb). However if you’re needing a new laptop to do less graphically intense gaming and dabble in some 3D modeling or photo editing this should work just fine. If you’re not planning to do that you’ll find something for less money that will serve your needs, this is strictly an entry to mid range gaming laptop (mileage will vary depending what you play, how much you are willing to tolerate less than high graphic settings). It's solid at what it does and I feel like the HDMI port isn’t as common these days (my last few haven’t had it) but is great to have. Some of the bells and whistles like being able to monitor the temperature and speed of the fans is cool but there’s programs you can get that will do that for you. In short, what I’m saying is that you should look at this if you’re on a budget and have aspirations of being a PC gamer.
