Looks solid

Love This Chromebook, Can't be beat for the price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolute love this Chromebook !! I have an older Acer C720 that I had bought maybe three years ago…But my granddaughter took it over, so I was in the market to get a new one again! I had a friend that had an Asus Flip, and while I did like the build of it and the screen it was a little small for my liking, plus is was slow as heck! My old C720 just blew it away in performance! ..So then I went out and bought an Acer R11 , and I found that a little better, but the performance was still not there for me….I don’t do a lot with the Chromebook and it is mainly just used for surfing so I don’t require much power, so I at least expect it to perform well doing web browsing! …So that one went back to the store and I got an HP 11 G5, and that was better performance wise, but still no where near as good as my old C720…But acceptable I guess! Then I saw the reviews on this beauty, and decide to get it! …It was to my surprise as good as my old Acer C720, plus I had the touch screen as well as the different modes (tablet, tent, etc) To be honest with you I don’t use the table mode that much, as I find it a bit heavy and clunky to hold the R13 in that mode… But I couldn’t be happier with the performance, and also the touch screen, as well as GREAT battery life, and also the screen is beautiful! The web cam is pretty good as well with doing Hangouts with family and friends! Also the ability to run run Android apps from the play store is a BIG plus! If there is one con to this Chromebook I would have to say that when I do put it into Tablet mode, The onscreen keyboard doesn't come up, but like I said I very rarely use it as a tablet, so for me it isn't a deal breaker…All in All this thing is a BUY, and you get the biggest bang for the buck with the R13!

Save money and buy a real laptop/don't buy Acer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Chromebook is frustrating to use. It is a good, simple device if you are browsing the internet. However, it is slow and it is difficult to view anything that isn't a webpage. Photos, PDFs, Videos not associated with a website will be difficult to view. The mousepad on the keyboard is pesky/difficult to use and does not always track correctly. Additionally, it has been 3 months. There is something loose in the power connection. This is a warranty issue. If I want it repaired I must purchase the box and shipping material, send via Fedex/UPS (Acer does not like USPS), wait about 30 days, and all for the possibility of holding my item hostage until I pay them if it doesn't turn out to be a warranty issue. If you're going to get this, the geek squad might be worth it. If you have to do anything other than browse the net, I would not recommend this device. I have used other chromebooks in the past and this one is very disappointing.

Game Changing Chromebook
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of the most noticeable features of the the Acer R13 is the build quality. It is a very nice looking piece of hardware. Fortunately, it isn't an empty suit, and what's inside is just as impressive as its looks. Over the last year or so, 2 in 1's or convertibles have been gaining in popularity and there are more and more options to choose from. The Acer R13 separates itself from the pack by combining a great touch screen, a very comfortable keyboard and superb battery life to make using it a very pleasurable experience. The processor, which is a MediaTek MT8173C Core Pilot Quad-Core ARM, is largely responsible for its great battery life, but it also doesn't disappoint with more than ample processing power. I'll often have more than ten tabs open simultaneously, and have rarely noticed a slowdown. Another great feature of the processor is that because it's an ARM, there's no fan, which means it's 100% noise free. I've had a few Chromebooks, varying in price and performance points, and this is without question the best. It's also the most expensive, so my expectations were satisfied. I have recommended this laptop to a few friends (some have previously owned a Chromebook) who have purchased the Acer R13, and all have been impressed with its price and performance.

Poor quality control
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The power connection did not make good contact and despite the plug being fully seated in the USB C port, it had to be wiggled and held in place to get good contact to charge the laptop. Best Buy customer service agreed it was a defect and allowed an exchange and a different store that had them in stock The 2nd laptop, has the same issue, plus the trackpad does not respond to 'press' well and the cursor jumping around. I'm tempted to try a 3rd at another store, but feel I'd be better off with another brand. Aside from that, the product seemed good for the $300 I purchased it for, not worth $400 in my opinion. Also, it would have been nice to see this on display first, no Best Buy within 200 miles Boston have this on display.

Excellent Chromebook
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had great capability and use out of my Acer C720. So, it was no surprise to me that the R13 was a worthy successor. I'm typing this on the screen keyboard now. It takes a little getting used to, but it is nice to have type-ahead like a phone (not exactly the same, but workable). l wanted a Chromebook with touchscreen so I could take advantage of Android. So far it exceeds my expectations and works very well. I didn't anticipate the device having sensors. I thought it would be a "dumb" computer and less like a smart phone. It senses orientation in four directions. Of course it acts like a tablet (in tablet mode), but without the home or other hard buttons. BTW, since I'm typing this lengthy and detailed review, I quickly reverted back to the keyboard since it is much faster for me even though it doesn't have type-ahead built-in (that will probably happen in future equipment and/or operating system upgrades). One thing I absolutely love is the pinch and zoom capability. It is so much easier and faster to set it to see what I'm typing. To me, the lid seems just right. It is not too loose and not too tight. It flips open easily and does not move unless you want to move it. The hinge and plastics are not six-sigma designed and form fitting, but they are very passable for a computer of this price range. I have read other complaints about this being lower quality workmanship or materials. It may not be the top of the line, like the now "near-extinct" Chromebook Pixel (but WAY below the original price; you can get a Pixel near the same price now, but it is already 3 or 4 generations old). The R13 is very sturdy and has a professional feel and appearance. I don't have any problems with lag or slowness so far. The speakers are as good as I could ask for in this package. It won't blow your room away, but it is many levels better than other laptop-style computers I have dealt with in the past. The HDMI capability is good. The video card is capable of 4k+, but I wasn't able to run a stable configuration. It is probably something between the TV, cables, switches, etc. rather than a real problem with this computer. It isn't a big deal for me because I have several other sources to run 4K video. It works fine with 1080P and I'm OK with that. I did get a little scare out of the box as the system seemed to constantly reset itself. However, that was quickly remedied by a Google/Chrome update. I guess the drivers are in bad shape from the factory, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it start behaving well immediately after the update. So far, the Developer Channel has also been stable. FYI: if you want to use Android apps for this computer, as of 12/2016, you need to switch to Developer Channel (Mode) on Chrome O/S (just google for how to do it). However, it is on the list of future upgrades to Chrome and will eventually be on the Stable Channel.

Replaced my MacBook Air.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Can't be touched for under $400! I always told my self once Google pulled the trigger on Android apps on a ChromeBook. I'd buy a a nice one. Was expecting to spend as much as a MacBook Air or a Pixel laptop. Was reading about the Acer R13 and how solid it was for about $400? Never liked Acer product and the cheap NetBook I bought as a poor student died shortly after the one year mark. Never bought Acer since. BBY store here in Bellingham WA didn't have the R13 on display, but was in stock. Bought it without looking at what was inside. Got to say was worth the risk. The laptop looks like a mix of MacBook Pro in the 13" MacBook Air size. The screen is great solid construction looks and feel like something way over the price paid. Sure it don't have junk that you will find in a $800+ laptop, but don't really care. I did have some issues with the Android apps crashing, but my laptop is in beta channel. I'm sure Google will fix everything on the normal update. The R13 will replace my MacBook Air and the iPad 2. The R13 can do everything I was doing on two device in one. Acer did a nice job on this computer.

A great step forward for Chromebooks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a fan of Chromebooks and Chrome OS; I love their speed and simplicity. This Acer R13 is the best Chromebook I have used. I bought this unit on sale for $349. The build quality is excellent; of especial importance to me is the keyboard, which is comfortable, the weight, which is fine, and the hinges, which are properly tight. No wobble when I type! The screen is good, though not exceptional; the touchscreen works very well. The battery life is almost absurdly good. One of the joys of Chromebooks is that you can get a new one for very little money: this is a very good feature indeed. But if you can spend just a little more, the R13 will reward you with an exceptional machine.

Not sure
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I checked this thing out and compare it to Samsung 12.3 plus and pro. I chose this one because I like the larger screen. I was impressed with how light it was being how big it is. Some said it was bulky I did not think so But I hope is me or it's just a bad one. I can't get it to turn on. Maybe I don't know how but I've only been abe to get it on once and then it said restart to update and it never came on again. If I can't get it on gonna trade it for the Samsung. Having trouble navigate chrome since I'm an Android girl. But that's not the device fault.

hardware fail in 21 days
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Won't charge. Probably wasn't working out of the box (bought 2 and only other one was in use). But now we're outside the 15 days so Best Buy won't take it back at the 21 day mark. Was told by online service to take it to various Best Buy stores to see if they would take pity on me and exchange it. Really. Acer wants to charge me to ship it to them and promises a 2 week turnaround. I guess you get what you pay for.
