I purchased this router a few days ago to deal with my ATT DSL service cutting out and causing me to have to frequently reboot my DSL modem and my router. I put it off as long as I could because I figured I'd burn an hour or more getting everything configured. Wrong! Setting this up could not have beeen easier. I was up and running in less than 10 minutes and had my whole house fully configured in about 20 minutes. 2 i-phones, 2 laptops, 2 desktops, X-box, and DirecTV whole home. Very pleased. I've only been running for a few days now but it is performing great. I high recommend! And for the money, you can't go wrong.

I have Frontier DSL service. I've used two modems in the past, and they were pain in the butt to install, or setting up wireless & other options. When my old modem finally died, I went with this Actiontec brand I had never heard of before, and I couldn't be happier with the purchase.
Basically, you just plug in the cords required with any DSL modems, then the built-in software walks you right thru the installation. After my experiences with other modems, I was nearly dumbfounded by how fast & easy the whole process went this time around.
My old wireless modem, while it connected with my old smartphone just fine, it would not with my new phone. With my new Actiontec, I didn't even have to play around with the thing, it connected as soon as I used the installation software.
I highly recommend this product, especially for the price. Also, big thanks to BestBuy for the online locate & local pick-up option. You guys are big help.

I am scared when it comes to computers, routers, smart phones, etc...they are intimidating.
I purchased the Actiontec Wireless N router because a friend of mine told me it was simple to set up. Believe it or not...I installed it no problem!
My other router did not distribute my DSL signal well throughout my home...whatever is in this box works much better!

This pretty much doubled my dsl speed and it's been 12 days so far. The one that came from the phone company would've probably needed to be reset 2 or 3 times already. It works with windstream if anyone needs to know that.

My old 2Wire (2700HG-B) AT&T modem went out and I had to get a new wireless modem/router ASAP. AT&T said if I bought one from them it would cost $100 (Netgear or Pace America). I did some research and found excellent reviews about the Actiontec Wireless N DSL Modem (GT784WN) at BB for $69.99. It took me less than 20 minutes to install. The quick start guide included was very easy to follow. I also set it up for wireless. Depending on your connection, it can go up to 300 Mbps. It has 4 Ethernet ports, allows for multiple devices, is secure (you can set up a password, so others can't login to your router), and works with all major providers (ATT, Verizon, Qwest, etc.) I didn't need this, but they also have free 24/7 customer support, which is an added bonus. I would highly recommend this DSL modem! (Note: this is not a broadband modem and does not work with Comcast, AT&T U-verse or Verizon FiOS). P.S. The customer service person at BB was very helpful. He said he sells more of these models than any other. Thank you BB!

After spending several hours attempting to install a new router (not successful), I gave up and ran down to the local Best Buy to get a modem/router combination. After I decided on a Netgear product, I happened to glance over and noticed this Actiontec for nearly half the price! I came home and within 10-15 minutes, I had 4 laptops and 2 tablets up and running with wireless internet! It was extremely easy to install, simple instructions and it worked like a charm. My teenagers can now go back to being locked in their rooms with their computers....Peace at last!

Excellent set up with Windstream in Alabama. Totally automated process. I only had to input my DSL user name and password, named wifi network, chose security and network password. Installed in under 20-30 minutes. All other settings were done automatically by the modem.

Good Router at a Great Price

I bought this as a replacement for an aging ActionTec DSL Wireless G router. The old router had been rock solid for years, but was showing signs of age. I wanted another integrated router with Wireless N. I wanted Wireless N because I use my 360 as a Media Extender and HD video requires a stable connection and good speed.
My first attempt was a Netgear DGND3300. I found it had short range and the internet connection was not as stable as my old router. That had to go! I went back to ActionTec because my old router was so stable. It was the right decision!
Had I not already got through the DSL setup PITA with Qwest on the previous router, I would have had some issue because some of the defaults (VCI should =32) are not right for Qwest and they are buried deeply in the setup.
I've owned a lot of wireless routers and I can't say this is the best, but it is a very close second. I will say it's the best DSL/Wireless router I owned.
Couple of things to be aware of. 1) No static DHCP IP Address assignments. I have a couple of AV media servers that it would be very nice have keep the same IP. Oh well. Hoping for a firmware update with this! 2) This is only 2.4Ghz Wireless-N, which is the most common, but 5.0Ghz would be nice to have. 3) This is not a gigabit switch. I bought a $25 gigabit switch to compliment it and thing are good! 4) This router will not accept a SSID with an underscore! I had to go around and re-setup all my devices!
In short, great range, speed, and stability (both wireless and DSL), but lacking a few nice to have features. I would probably given it 5 stars if it would have had the DHCP static IP assignment and the no SSID bug. All of these should be addressable with firmware updates.

I am a fairly technical guy after being my own tech support for many years. However, the last router I purchased (not Actiontec) was extremely difficult to install. I also found out that I could not reach the speeds offered by my internet provider because my router was the lowest common denominator...thereby limiting the speed.
The "Wireless N" DSL modem that I purchased last week was simple to install and has increased my DSL speed beyond my expectations. I rarely write reviews...this one was a "no brainier".
I would not consider any other brand of modem.

Great product and good documentation

A good product, and while I had a bit of difficulty with installation, the experience apparently was not as bad as several acquaintences have had installing 3rd party products on the BellSouth network. Most of the problem, in retrospect, was due to either a lack of knowledge or downright intentional obstruction by the offshore script readers that comprise the first level of support in the former BellSouth service area. Once i got past them to a second level or higher US based agent (and also spoke with Actiontec), we were able to identify one confusing spot in the documentation, and get the unit on line. Since then, it's performance has been flawless, and seemingly better than with the original router and modem I had been using. An excellent product once installed.

Three sales people in the store told me very upfront that it would not work with Centurylink period. I told them I know that my DSL is ADSL2+ not VDSL. They would not hear of it and warned me several times. I bought it and brought it home. At first it seemed to not work and then I noticed that it was not storing the configuration parameters. This turned out to be a stuck reset button which was easily fixed. Then it connected but would not authenticate. I looked at the Actiontec website and found it needed a firmware update, which I then performed, pretty simple. Then it came up online no problems. I called Centurylink to order my upspeed to my DSL line. They told me they only offered the upspeed in VDSL2 ! Not the fault of the modem and as the speed and service I have now it works just fine and has way better range than the old DSL modem/router. So, I will find out if ultimately I will need another modem if VDSL2 actually will work here as I live kind of far out, it may be that only ADSL will work here in the end I don't know. So far this has been working really good after the install.

Excellent Replacement for an AT&T 2Wire Gateway

I purchased this to replace my 3 year old AT&T 2Wire DSL Gateway, which abruptly died.
I had this out of the box and surfing the Internet in 5 minutes easy.
User interface is pretty straightforward and much easier to understand than other modems that I've encountered in the past.
One word of caution: Make sure you know your AT&T username and password credentials for initial setup. Luckily, the username is listed on your AT&T DSL bill. It should end with "@att.net".

I have AT&T DSL and got this unit about 10 days ago to replace the AT&T supplied 2wire, which was constantly cutting out. It was easy to install and set up on all our wireless devices. So far it is very reliable and I have not noticed it cutting out at all.

Works Perfectly With Verizon DSL

This was so simple to set up with Verizon DSL. Within seconds of plugging it in and turning it on I was connected to the Internet. No username or password is necessary as your Verizon DSL account is tied to your phone number. It actually took me longer to get the stand on then it did to connect. I replaced an older Westell modem / router with the Actiontec GT784WN-01 and I'm glad I did. Not only is the modem / router smaller, but all devices connect quicker and seem to run a little faster. The only downside is you have to connect an Ethernet cable to a PC or laptop to change the wireless password. Overall a good upgrade for anyone with Verizon DSL and an older modem.

Recently moved into my own place and internet was a must. (full time college student) I went with AT&T as an ISP due to the fact they were running an excellent special in my locale, but I opted out of the equipment they offer. Its overpriced and under powered in my opinion, and I'm not a fan of paying more than I have to. After a little research I found that this Actiontec was compatible with AT&T service (along with others) and most definitely outperforms what they offer. Best part, its easier on the wallet too! An all around win in my book.
I have owned this for a couple months now and have yet to experience anything negative. No loss of Wi-Fi signal, no forced resets/reboots or anything of that nature. The initial setup was also very simple with the instructions provided. AT&T also gives you a setup disc to format your router to be compatible with their service that talks you through the entire process. Overkill since the Actiontec has an AT&T autosetup option.

I am so excited to get this combination modem/router. I went to several places locally and could not find what I was looking for. I got online and sure enough, BEST BUY had what I wanted at a descent price. The size is perfect; ease of set up was simple; great item. People with satellite that have to go with a company needing a modem/router for computer should seriously consider this item.

Extremely Easy Install

This was by far the easiest modem I have ever had to install. I kept waiting for a hiccup somewhere along the way...but all went extremely smooth. I installed using Windstream DSL; all I had to have was my Windstream user name and password; the modem installation program did all the rest. It took all of 5 - 10 minutes from the very start to being up and running. The wireless distance also seems to be very good. I have a 2500 sq foot home and the signal is strong throughout. I also get a workable signal up to 100 feet outside of the house. So far I am very pleased; I think it will certainly beat renting a modem from Windstream at $10 a month.

Awesome Modem/Router

OK I live in Northern Baja, Mexico. The ISP issues the cheapest modems they can find. During the the last 18 months I'm on (along with many others) our third modem.. they're terrible so I decided to read and shop for my own.
After reading for several days, here and other review areas, I decided on the Actiontec GT784WN modem/router as it had the most by far the best positive reviews. I had to e-mail tech support for directions and data required to set it up in Mexico. I received an immediate response with what I needed and in less than 5 minutes I was online. The speed doubled from all the previous modems as well as the wireless signal. I live in a 3 story home and I have a wireless signal throughout.
What's really nice for me is not waking up each morning and having to reboot a modem so it would work for a few hours. This one is an awesome Modem/Router and the Tech support was also great.
I've recommended it to most of my neighbors who wanted to see it working as we were told by our ISP it wouldn't work here in Baja with them...
Enjoy--- Ron

Got this to replace a 6 year old modem that was acting up. Needed one compatible with CenturyLink and found this online at other stores for the same price. So I got it at Best Buy to have it immediately, even though that meant having to pay sales tax. The modem was a cinch to set up and is working flawlessly. Of course, it's only three days old, but I see no reason why it shouldn't last a while.
