Love it, works well, awesome customer support

When I first tried it out, it worked for a few hours then dropped internet constantly. I called their customer support and Cathy took all the time necessary to help me set it up properly. The stock setup needed tweeking. Now it works perfectly, is fast and I absolutely love it. If you are having problems, call customer service first before you take it back. You will likely be happy with it if you do. Their customer support alone will make me a future Actiontec customer. GREAT budget gateway.

Definately faster than the modem I've had for the past 8 years (Westall 7500) that Verizon gave me.Setup was a breeze just follow the instructions.I set it up with my MacBook Pro so its Apple friendly.Has pretty decent range in my house and speeds are up on all my devices (its DSL so its still not breakneck fast).

Reliable product. I had to replace my AT&T DSL modem because it died. This product worked great right out the box. Setup was a breeze and I got a stronger signal in my home than my previous AT&T modem. Totally satistfied.

I needed a router with WPA security because my new HP Touchpad wouldn't work with the WEP that I had with Verizon. After many hours Verizon tech support told me to buy a new modem router. I bought this Actiontec modem router from Best Buy after reading that it worked with Verizon DSL and that it was easy to set up. I can follow directions but am not a tech savvy person. Well, I had it set up and running with my laptop in 15 minutes. Very easy. Five minutes later I had it set up on my wireless printer. Now my laptop, printer and Touchpad work well and I am so proud of myself. I recommend this router for anyone with Verizon DSL.

Not a technical review, but.... I bought this for my parents back in May of 2010 and set up their first Internet connection/laptop PC. They are very tech unsavvy and chose to remain so. My mother uses this every day, the modem is never shut off, and the modem has needed to be reset only one time...due to a lightning strike. The other day, she called up and asked if they still needed that box with the green lights that's sitting on the bedroom dresser! (location of phone jack) Talk about setup and forget! They use AT&T DSL as do I. My DSL modem finally gave up the ghost, and I know which modem/wireless router I'm buying!

Just installed this, working well so far. Highly recommend calling your ISP provider ahead of time to get the interface user name and password. It made the install go faster and smoother. If this unit lasts 8 months, I will be at the break even point from what Windstream wanted to lease me one. Of course they wouldn't sell me one. You listening Windstream? I will recommend this, but if it crashes tomorrow I will be back to reverse that opinion.

I helped my parents install this new DSL modem. It was easy to set up. it detected their service provider and connected with no problems. They tell me the wireless signal appears stronger than their old modem, which they got from their internet service.

    The best modem for sonic.net

    Posted .

Just in case you're considering the Actiontec modem/router. It's just incredible. Extremely stable connection. Previously, even with the brand new ZTE 831 series modem from sonic.net, though the router was able to sync at 6+ Mbits/sec, it was never able to maintain it for any length of time. It would start out with speed testing at 6+ Mbits/sec, but if you watch the dial, the download would make several pauses before the download test is completed. I believe this was the reason why testers at such places like bandwidthplace.com, speakeasy.net, speedtest.net, or even speedtest.sonic.net, give results all over the place, not consistent with each other at all. I'm not sure why this Actiontec modem is not among the standard equipments offered by sonic.net, but after monitoring it for a while with all the speed testers above, the download test dials are always, ALWAYS, so smooth, and consistent across the board. When our internet at home is quiet, the download bandwidth is consistently reported by all of them to be around 4 Mbits/sec, and stay like that for days. I don't expect higher sync rate due to the rather large distance between our house and the CO. Another interesting thing is upload speed is most of the time at 2.8 Mbits/sec, not the 0.8 Mbits/sec that is supposed to be the rate offered by the service plan.

    Automatic configuration doesn't work!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this modem only because it works with Century Link/Qwest DSL and the price was right! Since my previous modem was an Actiontec modem (different model #) that didn't last a year, I wanted to buy something else! During setup, I found that the automatic configuration menu didn't work and I had to configure the modem myself. After I configured it, the modem works and it has the same wired download/upload speeds that the old modem had when it worked. However, the wireless speeds are much higher than the old modem supported! If this modem still works a year from now, I suppose that it was worth buying!

    Great Value

This Actiontec modem/router replaced a 8-year old Actiontec...and was not purchased without reading many reviews. Here's mine: I've had it online for a week now and it hasn't burped once. Solid performance and in my home it really gets a workout, with one ethernet port used exclusively for four internet radio station streams; another used with a kids computer, and another attached to my satellite tv receiver. The wireless has been problem-free throughout my home, even with the modem/router in the basement. That also has been handling up to six devices simultaneously. The only "glitch", and it might have been my fault, was the setup wizard didn't seem to do its job. I use AT&T DSL and wound up setting that up manually, but that wasn't a hassle at all. All-in-all, I can highly recommend this modem/router. For the dollars, its a great value.

I have AT&T DSL and was not happy with the Home Portal 2Wire, supplied modem. It kept dropping out and causing issues. The ActionTec was so easy to install and it works great, I notice faster speed and no drop outs at all. Very Pleased.

We canceled Prism TV but kept CenturyLink DSL. This wireless DSL router/modem was purchased to replace the Centurlink one that was being used for Broadband and TV. Installation was simple and well documented on idiot-proof instructions (YMMV :). Disconnected the old box, connected this new box, answered a couple of questions, and Volia! Works perfectly.

I am using this modem/router with Verizon DSL. It has performed much better than the Verizon supplied Westell 327W. My connection had frequently dropped with the 327W. The Actiontec is solid with a stable connection. Although Verizon does not support this modem (blessing in disguise), it has performed/functioned flawlessly.

Works very well for Qwest/CL internet service. pretty much plug and play. All that you need is to follow the instructions and type in your user name and password (you must call Qwest tech support to get them) and the modem does the rest! Up and running in 10 minutes. Surf's Up.

    Miserable Experience

This product was recommended by a Best Buy "associate" as comparable to everything else they stocked.. that should have tipped me off but it was $20.00 cheaper that the other devices so I bit.... big mistake. As soon as I opened the box and saw that it didn't come with an installation CD I knew I was in trouble. And sure enough, I was. A basic installation guide is included and it requires that you set-up the device using the Actiontec web site.... which I could not connect to using my wife's wifi hot spot.... had to hard wire the Actiontec to my laptop and then and only then could I connect to the company site. Then it required half a dozen attempts to identify my AT&T dsl service... this only took about an hour! Eventually I had to revert to my wife's wifi hot spot in order to contact AT&T high speed internet chat support and have them walk me through the entire installation process... another hour spent on this thing.... then the AT&T rep informed me that the device was not compatible with AT&T dsl service (the device package states that it is compatible with AT&T dsl but not AT&T U-verse services). It turns out that the AT&T rep was incorrect and the device IS compatible with AT&T dsl. Of course, to add insult to injury the AT&T chat connection dropped and I was left to complete the install on my own using the Actiontec website which I had been directed to by the AT&T rep which was, of course, different from the company web site I was directed to in the install directions.... After two hours of fighting with this device it suddenly, magically, by some unknown process which I cannot take credit for initiating, activated properly and performed as advertised.... no idea what happened to cause that. Unless you feel the need to spend a great deal of time being frustrated and aggravated by a modem/router avoid this thing! I'm keeping it because it is actually working (no way to tell why though) and seems to outperform my old AT&T Two Wire modem/router.

I had previously used a separate modem and router and encountered inconveniences in setup and maintenance. This combined wireless modem and router is very easy to use and an excellent value. Don't know why Best Buy doesn't stock it in their retail stores.

Bought this based on reviews and also was on sale. Setup isn't the easiest but not bad. I'm using this with CenturyLink (Qwest) and I've read setup is easier with other providers. I've been using this for several months now and wireless range is good, not had to do any resets, no issues at all. I have a multitude of wired and wireless devices hooked into this, old and new. Wireless printer, laptops, netbooks, Kindles, and Nooks, a couple wireless internet radios, and a desktop pc. All work great. I'm happy with this router, more so than the devices offered by CenturyLink.
