    Questionable security

I use Verizon DSL which uses PPPoE and requires your ISP username and password to connect. The GT784WN-01 I purchased last week connected without needing my ISP username and password the 1st time I plugged it in for the initial setup. This didn't seem right, so I reset the modem. This time I got the modem's setup screen and picked the manual setup option. I was asked for my ISP username and password and I completed the setup. The modem connected and I finished my custom configuration. Still wary about the security of my connection after using it for a couple of days, I changed the ISP username and password to non-existant ones. After saving the new setup and powering down, I powered it up and it still connected to the internet. Not good. I am now back to using my Verizon supplied modem. Unless Actiontec can tell me this modem is OK, it's being returned.

One month after I bought this it started acting up. No internet. Called CenturyLink, they were no help with this Modem because it was not one of their supported modems... even though the box stated "for use with CenturyLink DSL. Then called Actiontec for help. They stated it must be defective. Sending me a new one. This does not sound good. Am presently waiting for it to arrive. In the meantime, no internet.

    Junkie technology

I have had these modems only last about a year before they fail either internally or have some kind of communication failure. They are low grade junk technology that should have died out with the dinosaurs yet Actiontec continues to make these modems available to the world and refuses any acknowledgement of the poor quaility of this device. If you have Centurylink and they send you one of these as your modem, send it back and get a higher quality modem and router combo that will function.

I purchased this unit to replace DSL modem that had quit. It was a good thing that I am not technology challenged. I have to reset the network once a week to keep everyone in my household connected. I am disappointed in this units performance.

    What a piece of junk

I needed to upgrade my old 2Wire router because an HP printer we purchased wouldn't work with it (the router worked perfectly fine, but was almost 8 years old). Qwest recommended the Actiontek PK5000 as their router of choice. After installing the router (which was very simple), the wireless link would drop 4 - 5 times per hour. I reset and reinstalled the wireless adapters in both laptops and reset the modem multiple times. The problem never changed. I'm switching to something different (probably back to my old 2Wire which works great).

Tried to install this in my home but to no avail. Called tech support they were nice and walked me through step by step but it still did not work and they would not admit it was broke. They said it was my computer of which I tried to use it on another computer and it wouldn't work. Returned it for a netgear one which installed itself.

My router is less than a couple months old and keeps losing connection. It comes back then loses it again. Heck I'll be lucky to get this thru the router without it dumping.

I couldn't even get past the initial setup. No computers, wireless or wired, would obtain a local IP Address from this router. I even tried setting up the computers with static IP settings and was still unable to access the web config GUI for the router. Will try with the Linksys X2000 next.

This product claims to have parental controls and keyword filtering, which was the primary reason I purchased this. However, there are no keyword filtering or parental controls on this product, so product was returned.
