Perhaps The Best Portable Boombox Ever!

First off, I'm 50 years old. I was around way back in the 80's (hehe), when Boomboxes were all the rage, and I've owned most of the top dogs. JVC's M70/90, PC-3, PC-5, and quite a few others I that I can't recall the models. Over the past 20 years I've purchased (and still own) the original KaBoom, RV-DP100/200, and more recently the original Harman Kardon G0-Play (phenomenal), and the Altec Lansing IMT-810 (Very underrated)! My first (and only) BT portable was the Kicker Amphitheater (which is the only one listed that doesn't take batteries). Not being able to actually physically see, touch & hear the Exos-9, and only going by all of the extremely positive feedback I've been reading on various sites, I decided to take my chance. So I went all in and ordered two! Well they arrived today and all I can say is I'm elated that I went for it. These things ROCK! I thought the Altec 810 was a beast, and it is, but the Exos 9 is heads and tails above it, and all others I've listed! The highs are crisp, but not overbearing. The mids are where they need to be, and the bass is insane! I highly doubt that any other battery operated portable can reach the volumes this monster does. And without distorting!! Some people say it's to heavy to be considered a portable. I say fill up your water weights and get real. it's around 15 pounds, it's not that heavy. Try hauling around a JVC M-90 with 10 D-cells for a day, and then get back to me about weight. Anyways, for anyone who's on the fence about ordering this bad boy, I say get it. or better yet, get two and pair them. You won't regret it !! And on a side note for those who are looking for a carry case, I just picked up two American Tourister "atmosphera two" luggage carriers at Walmart (item number 62221-1041), and they are a perfect fit. You can even leave the Exos 9 in the carrier while listening to perhaps the best Boombox ever!

    Great sounding bluetooth speaker

I purchased the EXOS-9 over others in this price class because it is the only one that does not use "passive radiators", and it has an EQ you can tune. All of the speakers are actually speakers. There are a total of five. One subwoofer, two mid-bass drivers and two tweeters. The subwoofer has its own separate amplifier. It's a difference you can hear - and feel. On some music, I actually needed to use the EQ to turn the bass down a little. The mid-range response is clear and the highs are crisp. Is it "Hi-Fi"? No, but remember that we're talking about a portable Bluetooth speaker that uses digital sound processing to make up for the deficiencies in the small speakers. In some program material, you can hear the DSP chip compressing and limiting levels to prevent distortion.Bluetooth is also far from high fidelity, but this unit does have Qualcomm's AptX Bluetooth chip which is capable of much higher quality sound than regular Bluetooth audio. (You'll need a phone that supports AptX audio) Most people won't even notice, but I am a more critical listener than most. For best fidelity, ditch wireless altogether and use the 3.5mm cable input. In my 14x35 family room, it shakes the walls with plenty of well-balanced sound. Outside, it provides ample volume. More than enough to annoy your neighbors to the point of calling the cops. When cranked up to near maximum, the battery life is about 6 hours. At reasonable listening levels, it'll go 20 hours no problem. I like the fact you can remove the battery pack and swap out a fresh one. What will you do with your JBL or Sony when the battery wears out in a few years? Their batteries are sealed inside and not user replaceable. This is what I would call an "adult" Bluetooth speaker. There is no fancy light show and it isn't splash resistant. It looks more at home in an oak bookshelf than sitting on a tailgate. But it will happily do tailgate duty and do a good job too.

    Best Bluetooth Speaker? DEFINITELY!

I have been searching for a proper wireless speaker for over a year and was always coming up empty. There were many compromises with the smaller, portable units which was mainly full sound. The non-portable (think Bose Soundtouch 20/30) also were missing the mark on the sonic spectrum that I was after. I was almost resigning myself to falling back on bookshelf speakers when I came across many raving reviews of the Aiwa Exos-9. When I found out that it was at a warehouse club in limited release (and luckily one of those stores was in MY town,) I had to check it out in-person. Saying "Wow" or "Phenomenal" or any other fill-in-the-blank adjective does not do this product justice. What I will say is that it suited my needs in the following ways: - power - you FEEL the music even at lower levels that won't disturb the neighbors, but yet the music is still as you'd expect it to sound which you can't say about the smaller portables (which also rely on way to much bass - bass needs treble as an offset people) - multi-function - yes, this is a big unit, but it is light to me when you grab it by the padded handle (nice touch Aiwa) and this unit is portable because of the built-in battery which you can't say about the Bose Soundtouch 20/30's etc. - appeal - this unit is CLASSY in appearance and properly done (take the hint Sony with your childish flashing lights on some of your current portables) - SOUND - this is what the product was made for, right? Besides the five speakers (yes, 5! and none of them are those passive radiators which don't do anything in my opinion,) this product also has a built-in 5 band graphic equalizer (thankfully not 3 band, another kudos to Aiwa.) The built-in EQ allows you to use one of 4 preset settings or adjust it yourself and this functionality just makes the unit that much more well-rounded for filling anyone's needs for proper sound. I use my Iphone for streaming my music via Bluetooth and I use an EQ app on the phone (not the built-in Apple music app with limited presets) so the music sounds better in whatever headphones I choose to use. Having said that, I still appreciate the Aiwa's built-in EQ and still used it in addition to the settings already on my phone. The sound of my music is now EXACTLY the way I want to hear it and as lifelike to the way I hear music live ... and what I mean by that is listening to some recorded concerts on the Aiwa and noting how identical the sound is to the way the bands sound was when I saw them live. - Well-rounded - this product I'm sure can be improved upon (what product can't be,) but as it stands this is the BEST BLUETOOTH speaker at a fantastic price that I applaud Aiwa for selling it at knowing that they'll need to move many units to profit from in order to offer more products in the future. With the way this speaker currently is, I expect MANY, MANY units to sell. This speaker NEEDS to be on many holiday wish/gift lists. Anyone owning or receiving this speaker will LOVE IT! P.S. - as I noted, I checked this speaker out in-person at a brick-n-mortar warehouse club because they had a display set-up and I purchased it on the spot, thus not through Best Buy. I do recommend this product at Best Buy since the warehouse offering was in limited release/locations.

Finally, a speaker that is worth its asking price. I could not believe how much some of these "portable" bluetooth speakers were going for. I just wanted a speaker that would give me the right punch in terms of loudness without sacrificing sound quality. I demoed all of the expensive bluetooth speakers from various stores and was never impressed. I stumbled upon the aiwa exos 9 online and was quickly remenisced about this familiar brand as i had various portable cd players and boom boxes from my youth. The amount of positive reviews ive seen from here, amazon and certain forums were convincing for me to try. I was thoroughly impressed by how quickly the item shipped to me considering how i dont live in the continental u.s. The speaker has a nice size and i love the look and styling of it. It was light, but not at all flimsy or something of inferior quality. I just wish the volume knob was black as well to give it a steath look all around. And now for the best part: sound. This thing is off the heezy! It was just what i was looking for - loud, tight bass, nice mids and highs. I also love how quickly it is able to sync with my android phone even from afar (30 yards). I even compared it side by side to the beats beatbox that my brother has and my girlfriends bose soundlink 3. I already knew it was superior, but seeing the faces of my brother and girlfriend when they heard my aiwa exos 9 compared to theirs was priceless. Especially when they heard how much i paid for it. Lets just say their sodium levels went up hehe. Awesome job aiwa, and keep up the good work best buy. Yall are killing it right now as dont even bother to shop on amazon when it comes to electronics.

    BIG Lifeless Class D Noise-box

I hate to bash the Aiwa Exos-9 since so many people seem to love it like it's their baby but it did not live up my expectations or the hype. I would only consider it a value of 5-star for $100 and 4-star for $150 BECAUSE of what it is - portable and powerful. It lacks high-end sound quality which drops it out of an A-League audio purist' speaker. Simply put, it is not pleasing enough to cost $300. I would try the Harman Kardan Go Play for $180 as a cheaper and possibly superior rival. I cannot recommend anything for sure in place of the Aiwa because I have no real life experience with anything in this class but from my research I would consider the Harman Kardan go play ($180), the Fluance fi70 ($500) and possibly the DiamondBoxx ($500-$1700) as the nearest competitors. For most casual listeners I think they will be pleased enough to enjoy the E9. That is not meant to be a put down but some people don't have elevated hearing like I do (my mom and one of my brothers are examples). However, audio enthusiast / purist will probably recognize the E9 as a ho-hum (bland, lifeless, run of the mill) speaker with some added bass for bass-heads. It is OK for a hard thumping speaker in a box but it isn't even as loud as I expected it to be. The music never made me forget I was listening to it out of a box because it has that box-congestion sound - like a nasally voice, this speaker has a box sound that it couldn't hide. This was the deal breaker for me. Build quality seemed sturdy and like care was given. The BT connectivity was fast as a snap. The unit is heavy and pretty large, thus I would call it a semi-portable speaker: You can definitely manage to take it with you but it will be a little bit of trouble doing so. The built-in equalizer and touchscreen are awkward amenities. Each time you adjust the EQ up or down the sound cut out then went back up to the set volume. I found this irritating. The touchscreen isn't very user-friendly or responsive, either. In fact, I had to rub my hand across the top back and forth before it would ever recognize I was trying to use the buttons. I never could quite figure out a fail-proof method to get the touchpad to light-up and respond, I had to keep tapping and rubbing it until it would finally wake-up. Not a deal breaker for me but a nuisance like the EQ. In conclusion, no amount of adjusting frequency bands is going to be enough for a speaker with the limitations that the Exos-9 has. Standing bass waves, the boxy sound signature, cheap Class D amplification and lifeless mid/highs held me back from keeping the E9 or considering it a deal at $250-$300. I am happy to have back the space it took up and my hard earned $$.

This speaker system is simply amazing. The sound quality is very crisp and clear. This is not your standard "portable" speaker. This is a true stereo sound system that has it's own rechargeable power source. This truly cannot be compared to the Bose portable speakers. This thing is massive in comparison... And the sound quality is well worth the space. I bought one to have as a primary countertop stereo that I could also drag outside for parties. I was so happy with my purchase that I bought a second, to pair with the first. I've been simply blown away with the sound quality of this system. The bass is true without being obtrusive and the highs are crystal clear. Keep in mind, the sound is uni-directional on this speaker, so placement might be an issue for some users, depending on where you hope to put it. It's not really shelf or countertop friendly, but it does have a modern clean look that doesn't need to be hidden. This system does not come with a remote, but I highly suggest that if you use the system on more than rare occasion, you purchase the remote that Aiwa makes specifically for the Exos-9. If you're considering this speaker, and have the space for the larger (roughly 18x20 inches) Exos-9, buy it!

I was very excited about trying a larger speaker. My tiny bluetooth speakers were great for the office and taking on a business trip, but just couldn't get the job done in a large room.... Let alone outdoors. Aiwa has built the perfect speaker for what I needed. I love the interface and ease of setup but make no mistake, this thing is all about the quality of sound. It is big! It is not ideal for taking on a plane, but has a chargeable battery to move around with ease. Go ahead....embarrass your friends and remind them what music is supposed to sound like! There is nothing else like it. I'm ordering a second one so I can have paired stereo in my backyard.

Very disappointing. After reading reviews on many sites and watching many videos on YouTube. This Aiwa exos 9 is disappointing. I don’t think many of people that rate this highly don’t know sound. Honestly it’s not even that loud. I’ve set the equalizer to all positions and tried in Bluetooth and using the cord on my iPhone with iTunes. My phone turned all the way up and the speaker all the way up and it’s not great to me. I played all types of music still not great. No crisp highs and bass is disappointing. I will say it does not distort. I’ve had many stereos in my time and this don’t cut it. Not worth $300 I was at least hoping this thing sounded as good as the older mini shelf stereos and it don’t. I will be returning this. And I’m no longer interested in Bluetooth speakers. They are a joke.

Ok so I have been looking up reviews and have listened to many Bluetooth speakers for my backyard for about 2 yrs now and haven't found anything that stood out or really wowed me... until I got this! My neighbor and I always compare our sound systems and have talked about the aiwa but we're hesitant to buy based on only reviews because a lot of speakers out there like Bose, sanos.. and a lot of others had great reviews but just didn't produce great sound with some bass.. just wasn't impressed as I wanted it in my backyard and be able to take in in after I was finished listening...well I can tell u buy this speaker! Blows the competition away even for double the price.. Today I received the aiwa and as soon as I turn it on and connected super easy to Bluetooth I was in awe! I decided to put it outside in the yard and only turned it up half way.. with in 5 min my neighbor came over wondering what I got.. he couldn't believe how loud and clear with deep bass he could here it over in his house.. he know is goin to buy 1..So glad I purchased it!! U won't regret

I purchased this speaker after reading many of reviews from many sites including YouTube. It is a nice speaker and the Bluetooth works good and has a decent battery. But I’m not getting this big powerful party speaker sound that everyone claims. I was really disappointed. It’s about as good as a Bose wave radio that I heard. I have had big stereos in my time house and auto and this doesn’t compare. I was just expecting more I guess. So I returned it If your looking for a speaker for your garage while your working I recommend it. If you’re looking for a speaker that really pounds I would not recommend it

I am really impressed with the Aiwa Exos-9 Bluetooth speaker! The sound is clear and has incredible bass for a portable Bluetooth speaker! The Bluetooth connected within a few second to my Android phone. I listened to it for at least 5 hours on battery power and the power meter only moved one bar! But keep in mind, I did not listen to it full blast the whole 5 hours! I will probably end up buying another one so I can pair them up and have double the awesome sound! So yes I would definitely recommend this speaker to anybody!

I love this speaker, absolutely love it. It’s a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. It’s not extremely portable so keep that in mind. Its easy enough to move around the house but you’re We also have a Sonos system at home but it’s a pain in the neck. Our internet doesn’t work that great and the Sonos app constantly needs updated. Consequently I use this speaker 99% of the time. No crazy apps, you can adjust the equalizer on the unit and not through an app which is great. If this thing had an FM tuner it would be perfect but for some reason hardly any Bluetooth speaker does anymore. Oh well I love this unit and would highly recommend. It has a nice full sound and doesn’t lose clarity as you crank it up. Bass is great too!

Note: It did take Best Buy 3 weeks to get this shipped to the store for pick up. They sent me 4 notifications stating that it would be ready each time on that date sent and it wasn't. Not happy with the shipping process with Best Buy. Nonetheless, the speaker is awesome. Be sure to purchase this way in advance if you want to have it for an event or look elsewhere. I did a lot of research before purchasing this product and I am glad I did. I was leaning toward to Ion Road Warrior for the tailgate but went with this instead. This sounds much better. This has much deeper bass and midrange. You can also adjust the equalizer to fir your style. You can also link another Exos 9 with it to make it even better. Happy with this product.

I currently have a Altec Lansing IMT800 and love that unit. Two side firing subs, two woofers and two tweeters. I had see all the positive reviews for the Aiwa Exos 9 and ordered it along with the carrying case and remote. After comparing it to my old Altec IMT800 I decided to return it. The Aiwa sounds muffled compared to the Altec. I even removed the metal grill to see if that would help. I have now ordered the Diamondboxx. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I still love my old Altec IMT800 and wish they still made it. Mine is just beginning to have power supply issues due to its age. Altec needs to reintroduce the IMT800/810. I am still rocking out with the old Altec until my Diamondboxx arrives.

If anyone is looking for a great BOOM like sound at your family gathering, then look no further. This is the best portable I’ve ever heard. Nice features too. More power, 5 band EQ, quick swappable battery, extended life battery available (grab them quick when they’re in stock). Two of these (L&R) sound over the top great! I’ve always had to carry an external power supply with my other portables. Not anymore, these batteries are great and I bought 2 extended life batteries for them. The Audiopipe ATVP 3200 will still be used in wet conditions. But when the audio quality really matters most, it’ll be the Aiwa Exos-9 x2!

I own a small CrossFit Box which the workout space is about 1000 Square Feet. There is a lot of noise going on there, and I was using an ION Bluetooth speaker, but the music was always drowned out and would get real murky if the volume was too loud. The Exos-9 was used last night for the first time and it is amazing! It filled the room with clear, crisp sound and some really heavy bass! No matter how loud i turned it up, the sound didn't distort. This is definitely designed to be more of a replacement for your typical home stereo system. All I can say is this product delivers.

First off this thing is a Beast. Aiwa has a hit on it's hands The bass is the best I have heard in any bluetooth speaker and that is what is lacking in all other BT speakers. Forget about Bose. Over priced little piece of junk!!! The Aiwa sound is amazing and NO distortion at any volume. Great stereo separation and clarity. I did a battery test and jacked up the volume to full and it lasted 3 full hrs. Not too bad for the battery size and just plug it in and keep rocking when the battery runs out. Best sounding bluetooth speaker for the price.

I have 2 Aiwa - Exos-9 Portable Bluetooth Speakers that i link together in left / right stereo mode with my ipod / bluetooth. I place them on speaker stands for a day at the park or in the backyard, lift the stands up to a little above ear level while sitting. Both speaker equalizers are set the same (left to right - channel 1 @ +3db / channel 2 @ +2db / channel 3 @ +3db / channel 4 @ +3db / channel 5 @ +3db). The sound that is produced reminds me of my DJ set up using Yamaha/Nexo speakers, just not as powerful, clean and clear, and the sound carries a pretty good distance.

I was the guy blaring loud music in Best Buy and every other store I could find an Audi device to test. So we took a chance! It's the best money I've spent on a portable, Bluetooth speaker, the sound quality is miles beyond my expectations. The battery life is great. Sounds great, and has big bass. It's definitely loud enough to get the neighbors attention! I can't wait to pair two together
