Customers recognize the MacBook Pro's ease of use, performance, and battery life as significant strengths, with many praising its lightweight design and favorable price point. However, some users express concerns regarding the hard drive's limitations and the amount of RAM. A few also mention challenges with heat generation and operating system compatibility. Overall, the positive feedback on usability and performance outweighs the negative comments on specific components.

I bought this Apple MacBook Pro four years ago. I bought it thinking that this brand was reliable and I won't have to worry of losing any information or to have any issues with the computer's system, how wrong I was. I paid more than a thousand dollars for a computer that now is not working due to a system update. Next time I buy a computer definitely won't be an apple product. I invite you to do the same, why to waste your money and time buying an expensive computer just because of the brand. Toshiba worked for me really good it didn't give me any troubles and I used it for more than 8 years. If I switched to an apple product was because of what they offer but now I regret buying it. I don't trust apple products any longer, and I hope my review can help you decide what brand Not to buy. Your money and time are more important.

Fast enough, but even better if you add memory!

As the forgotten child in the Macbook Pro line-up, this model has not been updated by Apple since 2012, as they are moving on to the Retina models that have no user upgrade capability. However, the i5 processor in this laptop is still modern enough and fast enough to run just about any task you will use in a mobile/desk situation. Mine came with OSX El Capitan loaded (the latest version) as the standard OS, but you can use an earlier version OS if you wish (I ran a Mavericks version from an external boot drive without issue).
I chose this model to replace a 2009 Macbook Pro which was wearing out after years of daily use, and it is almost identical in appearance and function, but that is a good thing! It's good in that it is the last model of Macbook for which you can upgrade the memory and hard drive, and this machine benefits greatly with a memory expansion, and becomes much quicker if you add a SSD (Solid State Drive) to replace the pokey 5400 rpm standard 500 GB hard drive. I noticed a BIG increase in speed and responsiveness when I upped the memory to 16 GB, however, that may be overkill, as 8 GB is definitely sufficient to support a lot of multitasking, and is not that expensive or difficult to add by yourself. Do an internet search for a video demo on how easy this is to do. The standard 4 GB memory is just adequate for single tasking, and if you open a lot of web pages or try to run multiple applications simultaneously, the system slows down as it needs to swap data to and from the hard drive as a memory cache, and the hard drive is slow. The results are "beach balls" as you wait for the swap to finish. With the memory addition and the SSD, everything just zips along nicely!
There is something about the Macbook Pro that makes using it both easy, reliable, durable and pleasant, The display quality is superb either face-on, or off to an angle, so you really don't need the Retina display to do what you need done (in my opinion), which is another reason I chose to replace the 2009 model with this almost the same model. Plus, it has a DVD drive to either conveniently read/write data, or watch a movie on the go if you want without having to carry a separate plug in device. It has very fast internet connection speeds. Using built-in Disk Migration, all programs and settings were easily transferred from my 2009 Macbook Pro to the new computer without issue, so I had everything I used or saved before available from the start.
I am very happy with this purchase, and can enthusiastically recommend this computer for purchase consideration. I really wish Apple would abandon their "no upgrades by the user allowed" designs that seem to be engineered into every new product coming out now, as Apple installed upgrade prices are wildly expensive compared to market value priced similar items. But, I guess that also explains why they are doing it, too!

I received my new MacBook Pro as a gift and love it! My previous one (my first MacBook Pro) is an older 15" model, so I was already used to the Apple environment. I had and additional 4GB of memory added (total of 8GB now), and am vey pleased with the performance and ease of use. Adapting to the smaller 13" display has been easy.

I bought this Apple laptop for general purpose use. It's powerful, compact and full of features. I recieved a great value on the laptop, due to it being an Open Box product. The only negatives I can point out is, the internal battery and not having an HDMI port. The batery will be an issue once it needs to be replaced, but I have the Applecare on it and hopefully the battery will need to be replaced while the Applecare is still in place. It was an expensive laptop, but I wanted something I would have for a while and I could expand (RAM). I have been a Linux user for 5 years, but I wanted another Apple product (I have an Iphone 4S). Eventhough I'm a Linux user at heart, I like the ease of use of the OS. I have the pre-Retina Display model. (June 2012). I would recommend this product.

I've own this unibody version since 2012 when it first came out. I was looking for an upgrade and decided to get the exact same one because it's flexibility to upgrade the hardware. The new model looks nice, it's probably faster but I got this one for more than $200 cheaper than it's $1099.99 regular price. I'm going to put 16GB ram and an SSD drive and I'm sure It'll be better than any new one Apple has to offer for a cheaper price.

I love my iphone so naturally I would progress to an Apple computer/laptop. Although it's different than the Microsoft based computer I am use too, I found this transition to be easy. This laptop is light, fast and user friendly. I love the features of the backlite keys and the finger swipes! Anyone who is thinking about purchasing this laptop, should! You will love it and never go back to a Microsoft based computer!

I had several other laptop computers and none of them even begin to compare. Apple is the best laptop faster, more reliable, and has great support team. Once I learned the short cuts and how to use the computer. Great applications and safer to use with security features, Small and light as well.

Like all other Apple products, I was/am not disappointed. Beautiful screen, vivid colors, super light, easy for mobility, fast, and an elegant looking laptop. I love how it is so easily setup when you take it out of the box, and there's no installing software unless I buy it separately. Plug and play in a matter of minutes! It integrates easily with my other Apple products, and the booting takes a few seconds! Sure they're pricey, but the money is well worth it. Like my iMac, I plan on using this for years with no problems (unless I break it of course). I only wish that cases would have been available immediately, but that has nothing to do with the product itself. Hands down the best laptop I have ever known. Even has room to add Bootcamp for my Microsoft needs!

One month ago I bought my 2nd MacBook Pro (13 inch) so that I could allow my first 15 inch MacBook Pro to remain dedicated to some earlier projects I began several years ago.
Best Buy had a great deal on the 13 inch model and I was able to check it out at their store. My only concern at the time was moving to a smaller screen. Having used the 13 inch model, which I bought at my local Best Buy store, for over a month now, the smaller screen size is totally negligible for me. Pleasantly surprised.
Everything else about the new one I bought is typical, high-performance Macintosh quality. Most recent, friendly operating system along with the Apple Suite of Numbers, Pages, Keynote as well as other software like iTunes, iMovie etc. And, as usual, top-of-the-line support for 90 days.
Many thanks Best Buy and Apple for your professionalism.

I thought I would never switch to a Mac computer. I was a little skeptical about it at first. The transition from HP to Mac was easy! I love everything about the MacBook Pro. The computer is fast, installing is easy, the sound quality is perfect, the keypad is easy to use, and it is a great durable computer. The battery life is also great and I love the magnetic battery that attaches to the computer. Downloading apps is easy to do as well. The only thing that is challenging is learning how to use the scroll pad and how to use quick shortcuts. Everything is searchable online and the mac comes with an easy guide that teaches how to use the computer. I recommend this computer to anyone! I wish I switched to Mac a long time ago!

Its a bit thicker than the current generation, but the drive can be swapped out easily and the ram upgraded as you like. It does't have a retina display, but the screen looks great nonetheless. Performance for the dollar is tough to beat with this model.

I absolutely love this laptop. This is our first Apple product and boy have we been missing out. We purchased an HP laptop that had a fingerprint scanner on it about 9 months ago. What a mistake!!!! Hardrive corrupted, fingerprint scanner kept turning off and you had to restore from an earlier date to get it to work, it was very slow, we thought it was our internet. Finally screen went bad and we returned it. This laptop costed me $635.00 more but in my opinion it was worth every penny. It is super fast, love the download speeds and ease of use. It hooked up to y hp printer in seconds, even searching for it and finding it in the basement. Funny thing, HP printer driver had to be installed on HP laptop, and of course would not communicate with the printer in the basement, whether I was upstairs or downstairs. The laptop is a dream, love the lighted keyboard, the mouse is very easy to use. The old HP mouse if you hovered over mouse it would automatically select whatever you were hovering over. Not this one, and I love that!! It is smaller than my other laptop but so far I really don't even notice. The only complaint is that there is not a 10 key keypad. That makes it more difficult when trying to use calculator function or when you are using a bunch of numbers. I would rate this laptop 10 Stars

From PC to Mac

For the last 10 years I have been consistently buying PC's. For me they were the most affordable and got the job done. Even so, it is hard to resist the appeal that a Mac computer has. I waited until the Black Friday sale to purchase this computer because there was no way I could see myself buying such an expensive product, even if it is a Mac. Even with the slight mark down this computer is still more expensive than most PCs. However it is completely worth it. It is faster than any PC I have ever owned. Since this was my first Apple Product I was worried it would take me a while to learn their operating system but that was not the case. The transition was easy. I am still learning new shortcuts everyday but it has not slowed me down in the slightest. For those who want to transition from a PC to a Mac go with this laptop. It still has a CD drive, the new Macs are moving away from that. The screen is amazing and the battery life is spectacular. I just can't emphasize enough about the battery life for this computer. With my old PC I was able to get 3hrs max on battery. With this Mac I am able to use it for at least 7hrs on one full charge. And that means watching movies, multitasking, editing, etc. Things like this would easily drain my PC but my Mac keeps going strong. I have only had this computer a month, but I could easily say that I am not going back to a PC anytime soon. I still want to see how this computer fares in a year, but based on other reviewers answers it should still be working fine.

I bought this laptop because my Dell laptop just wasn't fast enough for me although it was fairly new. The Macbook was extremely fast and simple to use compared to my Dell because of the Windows 8 layout which was very difficult to navigate around. I also love the aluminum shell as it makes the laptop look very clean and durable. Although Macbooks are pricier than most laptops, I do believe that it was worth the buy.

My wife absolutely loves the macbook. Although its only a 13.3", it really is the perfect size and very durable feeling. As soon as she started it up for the first time, it synced with her 4S and did magic. I, too, have a 4S now, and when i send text messages, they get sent straight to her mac book. She preferred the pro over the retina display, because the pro still has a CD drive included. Screen is magnifiscent and the battery life lasts longer than expected. I own an HP laptop as I have for years now, and I want to throw my laptop away and go with Mac. The interface is easy to use once you start toying with it, and the laptop just seems more durable, and makes life so much easier being able to sync with our phones effortlessly.

I got this computer for my wife and it was a bit slow to start with, but the best thing about this older version of Mac is you can upgrade the memory yourself without having to go through a liscensed apple store. I upgraded her memory with 16gb RAM and its as speedy as any new computer, love having a disc drive and screen is just fine, do not need a retina. Great buy.

As a Mac, it is undeniably good and reliable. It is a bit older and the RAM size on my computer makes it a little tedious at times to multitask. Compared to more recent models and the newest MacBook, this older Pro is clunky and heavy. However, it gets the job done, still looks great, and is a safe and reliable buy for cheaper than more recent models. I am honestly very happy with this purchase and love my Mac. I just wish i had more RAM so that it would work a bit faster.
