Bought this router 8 months ago and now all the paint is peeling off. I contacted customer service for ASUS and they said I needed to send it in for service. What am I supposed to do without a router during that time? It is less than a year old, why can't they just send a new one? Ridiculous. Stay away from ASUS.

my old router died and i needed a new one, i went with the most expensive consumer unit figuring its the one mostly likely to have specifications to last me for a few years, this thing is massive, literally as big as a small pizza box but it does provide round the house coverage. while i do not like the genie mobile app or windows/mac app or the interface it does do what it needs to do. where it fell flat was with my old device i had time scheduling and website category filtering to govern what my kids can get to and when this device does offer it but it is not as polished as the other ones out there. oh yes and if you ever do a firmware update note that after the update it says system must be restarted to complete update, i was not able to get to it from the website so i assumed this meant powercycle the device... BAD move.. it put it in an unstable mode and i did have to recover to old firmware but it was a grueling hour of troubleshooting before it worked. so the lesson here is when it says restart... be patient and wait until the website management page works then reboot it gracefully. in the end i did go back to my previous vendor but this was an insane device with very powerful items. if your not looking to have total governance this is the device for you (or if you just want a simple management (if you are like me and want granular control of everything this may not be the device to settle with)

First, I have used MANY different vendors and class of wireless routers over the years. I have seen expensive units that are junk. I have seen little $25 dollar portable units that can be used as your primary home device. I won't say that I've seen it all, but I have definitely seen an adequate cross-sampling to be able to make a solid judgement. Summary: This is definitely a flagship product. It costs a LOT of money for a personal device, but you get business class performance out of it. So, it's worth it. From getting solid wifi at double the distances I have seen on other products (including solid signal through the electrical wall (the wall that has all of the electrical running through it). To the extreme level of features the unit offers. Do you want parental control over what your children do and when they can do it? Just set up two different wifis (one is called guest). Lock one down however you want and give the kids the key to that one. The other allows your devices complete access at all times. I love it. It is a "big boy(or girl)" box. If you have no clue how a TCP network functions, you should probably go with the generic units that do the work for you. But, if you want features with ease of administration, this unit has it all. I put this unit up high (near the ceiling) and I get coverage throughout my neighbors house. So, get it. Set it up. Then, forget about it and enjoy amazing performance.

Totally easy to setup. Good range. It does cover the entire house wirelessly however not at the higher speeds at the farthest distances. Like most other routers it has the 2.4G and the 5G bands with the 5 band being faster with less distance and the 2.4 band having longer distance and less speed. This was an easy fix for me because I used the router I was replacing as an access point in bridge mode and now I get 150Mbps (top speed for it) at a minimum throughout the house. This router consistently provides 433Mbps in the 5G mode. Another great feature is added security at the router level provided by Trend Micro.

I went through 2 netgear nighthawk x6 routers and had many issues with them and got irritated. Let me say I'm a big time gamer and I use 1gig internet by EPB and there should be no reason why I should lag in games. So I checked my internet speed on the nighthawks and the upload speed wasn't even close to a gig. It had 406mpb upload and download was 358mps speed, but yeah its not bad at all the speed anyway but its horrible for a router that promises powerful speeds and you don't get them. I got the Asus and tested it after I set everything up and download the latest firmware. Download speeds 906mps and upload speeds 825mps and I was like wow lol I was so happy I got my money's worth, but yeah you guys are problably thinking why not get the nighthawk x8 or why choose this router over the x6? well lets see it costs $400 for the x8 and it has the same tech as the asus but the only difference between the x8 and the asus is that the x8 has 3 bands, and active antannas, but they have the same RAM and the same 2-core processor lol. So why would you spend $200 plus dollars on something that is basically the same but without the extra features and the Asus offers gaming accelerator when the x8 and x6 doesn't? just pointing that out and I'm enjoying this router so much so I no longer lag in my games. Also the x6 has so much less RAM and a single core processor but it does have 3 offload processers which is nice if they worked right and the ASUS is cheaper than the x6 as well so your still saving money. All I'm saying here is you are getting more than your money's worth on this router compared to any other one out there. I have pictures labeled which router is which so when you click on the picture look on the bottom and it shows you the name of which router is which to prove you guys the speeds.

Here's the problem I faced: I live in a house with just one cable outlet, and that one is in a relatively inconvenient place, but I needed a fast, reliable internet connection, not just for streaming HD videos (Netflix, etc) but for my job (which involves frequent video conferences). Solution: a router that provides a large area of coverage and a really strong signal. Based on various review sites, it seemed like the Asus - AC3100 might do the trick. Based on several months of usage at the time of this review, it certainly has. I routinely get speeds faster than Comcast claims I should (based on my plan) and the connection is strong and reliable, even from three floors up in my house. Even the backyard is covered. In sum, this a great router. It is on the expensive side, and is probably more than many people need, but if a fast internet connection throughout your house is a priority for you, I think it is well worth the investment.

I purchased the ASUS RT-AC3100 to replace an aging TrendNet router. The WiFi was easy to set up and I quickly had both the 5 GHz ac and 2.4 Ghz bands set up and operational. Wifi has good signal in my home and the throughput is sufficient for the wireless devices in the house. While the web interface is easy to use, there are a ton of features buried in the myriad of menus. I had fairly slow wired performance, which wasn't fixed until I enabled "Jumbo frames" Took a while to find exactly where that feature was located. IPv6 was also disabled by default, which seems strange in this day and age. Overall I am pleased with the router, but it does require some setup to work it's best. Due to the that, and the sheer number of features it presents, it may be difficult for a novice to get the most out of this purchase.

My Linksys that I've loved for quite some time - for some reason - just wasn't supporting wireless traffic well. After several tests of wired vs wireless on the Linksys connected to a 60mbps link, my Speedtest.net results were rather dismal on wifi (under 8mbps compared to 59-60mbps on wired). Long story short: I needed to replace my router. Since 2003 I've hacked my rotuers using DD-WRT firmware ($400 capability from a $100 device) So when it was time to replace the ailing Linksys I went out to the DD-WRT site to find the newest router that was DD-WRT capable. Enter the Asus router. Interesting enough after you install and setup this router it does almost everything I wanted WITHOUT needing a new firmware load. This is great product, but it's expensive. If you can get it on sale, do it! My only recommendation that I grew to love from my previous products was the ability to filter MAC addresses on a timed schedule. It was great for killing the wireless to my kids' devices from 9pm until 3pm the next day when they got home. This would be nice add-on, but don't the lack of this 1 feature scare you away - it's still awesome with great range and the speeds are fantastic. The last thing I simply LOVE about this router is it's built-in uPNP and FTP servers. Making it VERY easy to share a USB devices (2 actually) to both the internet for fairly easy access via FTP as well as media playback to my FireTV and Sony BD players inside the house.

No more gaps in my house. We have a 3,600 sq. ft house and our previous router did not provide wifi in all areas. The set up for this router was very easy and the noticeable difference it has made is a welcome change. We have over 12 devices connected to wifi and 5 devices connected and we have lightning fast browsing with a 200mbps down services from our ISP.

If you're looking for one of the best dual-band routers on the market, then this is the one to get. It's definitely priced like a flagship router, but it comes with a ton of features for pro users and anyone who wants very granular control over their home network. Because this is a high-end router, it also has a very large footprint, but you can't get away from that, regardless of brand or model. It's one of the more "normal" looking routers, considering how the trend nowadays seems to be to make a router look as much as a UFO as possible. This is an dual-band AC3100 router, which means it has a 2.4GHz band that has a theoretical maximum speed of 1000 Mbps and a 5.0GHz band that has a theoretical maximum speed of 2167 Mbps, but you'll never see those speeds in real-world applications. For most users, a dual-band router is enough, especially if you just have a few devices. On my old router (a Linksys wireless-N), I was getting a download speed of around 73 Mbps in a room 30 ft away from the router. With this router, I was getting over 300 Mbps, which is the same as my wired connection. Both tests were conducted on the 5.0 GHz band on the same channel. I have a three-level house, and the signal was pretty good on the first two floors. I noticed a weaker signal on the third floor, but it's rarely used, so it's not a big deal. The browser interface is full of options and is very easy to navigate. It gives power users granular control over their network and has many features like guest-mode wifi, prioritizing traffic, configuring WOL, and many other features. Users of Asus routers will be pretty familiar with the layout. Like I said earlier, this router is big and can run kind of hot. So far, I haven't seen any problems with it, but make sure it's in a well ventilated area so it doesn't overheat. If you have the money, then this is the router to get.

I bought this router to replace an old NetGear, which had consistent blind spots and lag. This router not only created better coverage, it sustains its signal better than the old system. The one downside is the high price; however, considering the many benefits that one receives from this router, it is well worth its extra cost.

This router is amazing. The speed and range is awesome. I had the Asus RT-N66U before this but it just couldn't keep up with my new 155/15 internet connection. This router is giving me wireless download speeds of 180-200 since our connection is running closer to 200 down most of the time. I am very happy with this purchase great router and highly recommend it.

Over all I'm very pleased with the ASUS router that we got, it was to replace a Netgear Nighthawk, that had been giving us problems by not reconnecting to our ISP box. The only thing I have that I found inconvenient is that we have a small closet that we call for lack of a better, term we call media closet. Cable and other out side connections come into. I decided to put a small shelf up high in the closet giving just a enough room for the antennas to move when I was reconnecting the router I must have hit the button that turns off the WIFI broadcast I thought something went wrong with the router, I found the button and turned back on, I think it would be nice to have an LED for that button as it is black and blends nicely with the front of the router other than that I think it is a great router I have good clear signal no slow downs that I have noticed in connecting with my smart devices.

This router has preformed above and beyond my expectations! It not only covers my entire three-story house but all the way down to my mailbox and across my entire backyard all with out loosing any speed even with 2 PS4's, multiple smart 4K TV's, 3 gaming laptops and multiple phones, tablets, etc. all running at the same time, I am still blown away!! if that wasn't enough it is stylish, slim and unbelievably fast! Still not enough, ok, well set up was real simple and easy, the directions were so well laid out that a novice could install this with ease! I am Extremely happy with my purchase, and you will be as well! There is nothing more I could ask for from this router! I will most likely buy another one for my parents and one as a back up for myself if it goes on sale again! Thanks ASUS for making a Awesome Router!!

This router is hooked up to our modem. We have 2 other routers as access points ran thru the house hooked up by Ethernet cable. House is 3500sq ft. Setup was easy. No bridging was required to our other access points. 3 phones, Apple TV, 3 Roku's, nintedo switch, 3 smart TVs, 4 tables, 1 desktop, printer, smart DVD player, deebot vacuum, all connected to the wifi with no issues on 100mbps. Great for gaming and multiple devices. Hands down best router we have owned.
