Cloudy picture quality
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the TiVo bolt replace my cable box, provided to me by my cable company. I noticed that the picture quality on my bolt wasn't as clear as it should be, not even when using netflix on it. There is a huge picture quality difference when using Netflix on the Chromecast vs the Netflix or any other streaming service on the bolt so I called to TiVo customer service and they didn't want to help me at all and were very rude. Maybe I have a defective device but I don't know for sure, due to the horrible TiVo customer service. So if you do buy this product I hope you don't have any problems with it because the customer service is horrible.

Don't buy if you have Comcast
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this product so that I could stream to my iPad. After two hours of fighting with the machine and my cable company, I was told that I can't use this because Comcast protects its "product". You might want to check with your provider regardless of who it is in case they are like Comcast.

Tried two but had to return
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Even the tech from the cable company could not get TIVO to complete the connection process. I tried a second unit and after several tries got the menu working. However, it would not record programs and lost several stations the next day. I was on the phone several times with the cable company to try to resolve the problem including changing the cable card. TIVO had me on hold for quite awhile but were courteous when I cancelled the service. I dislike contracts. I watch TV without a DVR unit. A friend of mine has TIVO and it works fine. Both of my units were one year old from production date. Not sure if that made any difference. It's the cable company vs TIVO and who knows what is the problem. Our TV service is fine without this DVR. I think it is simpler to rent from the same company as your TV service because it is their equipment and they know how to make their DVR work.

The classic TiVo is so much better.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been happily using a "classic" TiVo for 9 years when my 25 year old TV set bit the dust. All the articles about a new set said to get a SMART set which I did. Turned out that it wouldn't work with my old TiVo so I returned the TV and got a pre-smart SPECTER TV. between confusing instructions from my cable company and TIVo I wasn't able to get the old TiVo to work so I followed their reccomendations and bought a BOLT. The instructions were still incomprehensible so I hooked up my old TiVo on a smaller old TV and got it to work. Using that learning experience I moved the old TiVo to the set set and got it to work! Now I'm back to where i was a month ago with a new wide screen TV and a BOLT that I may use someday,

OK unit, but a step down from the Premiere.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A few months back when my Tivo Premiere bit the dust, after 7+ years of faithful service, I got a Bolt to replace it. I immediately replaced the 500GB HDD with a 2TB HDD. The system is working well and I've had no problems with it at all. I can't say that the quality of the recordings is any better than with the Premiere, but the additional 2 recording channels are a really nice bonus. But there are some "Cons" to this unit that keep me from giving it 5 stars. First, I really don't like the look of the unit. I realize that the bent chassis is a cooling feature, but it just looks plain weird and provides a terrific place for dust to accumulate. I also don't like the fact that the unit is only available with a Gloss WHITE Plastic case. I've got an HDTV with black trim around the screen, an HTPC in a black case, a black Bluray player, a black Home Theater receiver, black external hard drive cages for the HTPC and a shiny white plastic Tivo Bolt. It just looks really cheap, and feels cheap too. The Bolt is a real step down from the build quality of previous Tivo offerings. And then there's the power supply. The Bolt is blessed with the mother of all Wall Warts. I don't think I've ever seen a Wall Wart this big or this heavy. It is really huge, and it's WHITE with a long WHITE cord. This thing could easily cover 3 outlets on a power strip. Oh, to strengthen the monochromatic theme, they removed all the color from the Tivo logo. It's now a shiny solid black logo. But the unit works. It records up to 4 shows at one time and plays them back as needed, so it does it's job and does it well. I just wish it didn't have to look so obtrusive while doing it.

Worked Good at first
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was supposed to be a replacement for my aging Roamio. It worked OK at first. Then Tivo pushed a firmware update and things went south. I called "technical support" and they blamed everything except the Bolt. After a week of problems with no solution in sight, I returned the Bolt. Went back to the Roamio and it works OK.
