Basic Pair of Two-way Radios
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Cobra PX500-BC is a pair of business class two way radios. They come in a typical bister pack with one battery for each radio, a micro-usb charging dock (so you can charge batteries in rado), and two holsters. Build quality feels good. Rugged enough that I wouldn't worry about damage beyond scuff marks if these were dropped and bounced around a bit. The LCD is backlit and readable in just about all lighting conditions. It helps with selecting the radio channel and privacy codes, enough that someone else with a radio won't easily stumble upon private chatter though I'd still limit conversation to things you wouldn't mind customers or others overhearing. The radios have a lot of features typical of two-way radios. Hands-free voice activated operation, auto-squelch (shutting off sound so you don't get annoying or startling loud or weird noises as the radios move in and out of range with each other). The package claims about a 20 floor range. I think that's pushing it but can confirm 3-5 floors works well (roof to basement). There's also a 23 mile claim. I couldn't get anything nearing that much distance. It seems distance might be about the same as the 20 floor claim on the package - perhaps up to a mile. I think the caveat is having line of sight with minimal obstructions. In the real world, I can only think of a few scenarios where one might have that kind of visibility. Maybe when snowboarding and you and a friend are on different peaks facing each other, you could use this as a go signal. I made sure to verify the range using the "high power" channels. I think with the 12 hour battery life, these can be nice for having store associates communicate or doing some intense team shopping with the wife (while in the same big store or no more that a couple away in the mall), but otherwise these seem to have the same specs, range, and features that basic two-way radios have had for the past decade or so.

A great communication alternative in a business
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own a couple of Cobra walkie talkies for many years now and are since, a basic piece of equipment for the family camping trips. Recently, with different needs and looking for a communication alternative inside our long warehouse I found this Pro business Radio model and I decided to try it. With a very simple appearance, pocket size, convenient holders to attach to the belt and the same sturdiness as the cobra walkies that I used for years in the outdoors this model adds basic additions that make a great professional tool for communicate inside a business with independence of phone networks or to a close to zero cost. Personally, game changers for me are: 1.- The eternal battery life (right is not really eternal, but the power saving technology makes it look like it). When the recharge time arrives, the convenient dock is ready with a fast recharge. 2.- The voice activated transmission that activates the call with the caller voice instead of using the hands (that could be used for other things) to hold the talk key. Also there in case you need it: 1.- 22 different channels that can be independently be used for a parallel private conversation. 2.- An indicated 1W indicated power that could cover a 23 M distance or 20 Floors. 3.- Call alert, that warn the inattentive receiver that a call is searching for him. Only one element that without changing my positive review would make the kit perfect for the business market that is intended to seduce and is not currently part of the kit: a headset

Better than a toy
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my second attempt at using a walkie-talkie set. Earlier I used a Motorola Talkabout set about 15 years ago. The most striking thing that I observed was that new radios have shed a lot of weight and volume. Most probably due to integration of functions in a single chip and power efficiency (resulting in a more compact battery). What I like about this radio is that it just works out of the box. For relatively advanced users, there are settings for enabling VOX with multiple sensitivity levels, privacy codes, etc. Some channels default to low power helping you save power as well. All in all, I would say it's a basic set which is slightly better than a toy but not advisable for any semi-professional or serious use (where your life may depend on it). This would be mostly relevant for casual hikers who are not too far off from the grid in my opinion.

Crystal Clear Talk, High Quality Build
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So we picked these up because working out in the shop we'd always end up having to call the house or vice versa rather than walking all the way out back from the house. With a distance of about a 100 ft away where our shop is these walkie talkie's were crystal clear We've used them throughout the property as well which is about 4 acres and still clear as a bell. . They are well built they don't feel like most mini mics. No cheap toy feel. They have a nice bright green back-lit led if you're using them in the dark. They're nice and loud especially the call button. The only negative thing I'd say is the charging base. It's combined so you have to keep both together to charge rather than being able to keep one out back where we use it and one in the house. Other than that these are a definite recommend to others for purchase

Can't beat a Cobra!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's been decades since I had last seen a Cobra radio-controlled device, and this unit continues their proud tradition of great products. Realistically, you might get a 1/8 mile distance out of these devices (this set is *not* rated for FCC-regulated airwaves, which is the only way you'd otherwise get to 23 miles), especially if you're trying to communicate across several walls or buildings. However, if you choose one of the higher channels (they tend to be better at longer-range comms), they'll definitely handle the situation. For battery life, I really like that Cobra has included lithium-ion battery packs for each device. The only downside is that the two screws required to hold the battery door shut are exceptionally tiny, so make sure you're in an appropriate area and can catch them easily if they fall when attempting to unscrew! I also liked the fact that there's an immediate "standy-by" state after several seconds so as to not immediate drain the battery. This makes them capable of being used all day, especially with the included belt clips for easy transport. If you have a need for short-range walkie-talkies (as we used to call them), this is your pair :)

Good or bad depending on needs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not be fooled by the range listed. These radios cannot reach one mile, let alone twenty-three. I really have no idea where they get those numbers because a range that high requires a repeater but these radios are not made to talk on repeaters. If you need some small, lightweight, easy to use, professional looking radios to talk around a small business such as a restaurant, office, or small warehouse, these could work. Children and families can easily use them around the house or other random places as long as they are not too far apart. They have the typical range of any other FRS (Family Radio Service) radio. Professional looking earpieces and earbuds are also available to purchase so employees can quietly communicate without disturbing customers. Unlike some radios I have used, the settings are locked unless the mode button is pressed. This keeps people from accidentally changing the channel if they bump into things. The best feature is probably the flexibility of charging options. These radios can either be dropped into their charging station which is powered by USB power or, a standard micro USB cord can be plugged directly into the radios if they are away from the charging cradle. Bottom line for me - if I have a friend who needs an FRS radio for the uses suggested above, I would recommend these. But if someone needs a better range, these are not the solution. Some higher quality business radios would be a much better option.

Impressively Small, long range, great battery life
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't had a "walkie-talkie" system since I was a kid that I cherished as one of my favorite ever gifts as over time, cell phones and such have taken over for communication. Yet, there's still times where walkies are great devices when trying to communicate between two people in a semi-local area. Here are some of the reasons walkie-talkies make sense: 1) Awesome battery life. These things can last weeks on a single charge while cell phones have about a day of life. 2) Tiny! these have a great form factor that are as small as a cell phone. 3) great range! I was impressed how far these extended 4) no cost and point to point connection, fast comms Overall very happy with this set and they are reasonably priced as well. I will use these on fishing trips and hunting trips but also let my kids play with them. The charger base and micro-USB charging makes these super compatible, you can even use a charging battery brick. Great unit!!!!

Easy to use, but no range
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned several Cobra branded radios throughout my life and used them at sporting events, while camping, hiking, etc. But it has been a few years since I have owned a set and having started a company in early 2018, I was excited to have a chance to get back to owning CB radios as they would definitely have a use in the business. When the radios arrived, they were packaged well, included the two radios already assembled, instruction manuals, the battery packs, a charging dock, and the USB charger including the wall outlet plug in adapter. Thank you for including this, Cobra, as it seems that most companies seem content with just sending you the USB cords expecting you to supply your own wall plug. Simply unscrew the two screws holding the battery door closed, insert battery, secure the battery door, charge, and you are on your way. These radios have tons of channels to chose from and even more encryptions per channel which will make sure that no one is creeping in on your radio chatter and virtually eliminates interference from other broadcasts being made. This is fantastic as I remember playing with Cobra radios as a kid and having random people jump in and interfere with our communications fairly regularly. Be careful with what channels you chose, however. There are a few channels in the middle of the range that are designated as low power channels. This may be useful if you are in close proximity of someone you are trying to communicate with. But for me, it made bad range worse. Navigating the channels and encryptions is simple using only the handful of buttons located on the radio, as are all of the other settings. Keep your instructions handy, however, as I was not familiar with some of the abbreviations used, but have found a lot of the features useful. My favorite has to be the voice activation as it allows me to communicate without having to press the button on the radio. I could see this being especially useful if you are using a headset or if you are working on something (i.e. electrical) that requires both hands, but you still need to communicate with someone in another room that is monitoring what you are working on and can provide immediate feedback. Even turned up to the highest sensitivity level, it kept all the unwanted background noise out. Now it would clip some of the beginning of a transmission, but with practice, it works well. Unfortunately when it comes to range, 23 miles is a gross exaggeration. I understand that these radios say that they are pumping out the maximum power allowed by law. I also understand that outside interference, terrain, etc will contribute to the range of these radios. But living in Nebraska, even in a suburb of Omaha, there are miles of cornfields just outside my neighborhood. The most range I have been able to secure out of these radios is about 1.5 miles. I still had line of sight with the person I was attempting to communicate with, but the radio traffic would not go through. The receiving radio would not even chirp as if it was trying to receive the transmission. The only things between me and the other radio holder was cornfield and a 4 lane highway. I do live in proximity to an Air Force Base and I would not be surprised if their equipment was causing some of my range issues, but only being able to secure 1.5 miles, with poor quality transmissions, when 23 miles is advertised, has left me sorely disappointed. I have tried cycling through different channels and encryptions, but haven't found any remedy to the range issue. If you need to communicate with someone on a very small work site or some other situation where you will be in close proximity to the other party you need to communicate with, these will probably do you just fine. However my confidence in using these radios in important situations is not very high. I hope that my experience is an anomaly. I hope others are experiencing better results as I like the Cobra brand. But these just won't work for me and my needs.

Clear professional quality sound, Well designed
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound quality is excellent, the advertised range is impressive (though i didn't test too far apart yet), when you start talking there is a tone to get your attention before the remote party speaks, overall I'm quite happy with these. One thing to know is to be prepared to have a Philips-head screwdriver available to install the included re-chargeable batteries. Otherwise, it's very easy to get up and running. Also worth noting, I've left these on for an extended period and did not receive messages/interference/noise from random sources, the only communication appeared to be between these devices. I may wind up passing these over to another family member who has a larger property and may have more of an immediate potential use for communication with the radios.

Decent pair of walkie talkies
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like this pair of talkies from Cobra. It has the VOX feature which i need. It comes with recharging batteries for the charging dock, back clips, and charging cables. The 23 mile range is quite a stretch for being on flat land. My clear reception was about a mile. Maybe you need to be on sky scrapers across town to get the 23 mile range. Overall they're great for what i need them for.

Excellent Long Range Radios
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Cobra - MicroTALK 23-Mile, 22-Channel FRS/GMRS 2-Way Radios are phenomenal. They work wonderfully when communicating across long ranges. Audio is clear with no interference or crosstalk. They are really easy to use, and maintain. The battery life is superb. We are able to use them for an entire day on a single charge. I plan to get another pair for additional members of the family. The Cobra - MicroTALK radios are great for areas with limited or no cellular reception. Now I can easily keep in touch with my group and be assured that we can reach one another with reliable service. I highly recommend the Cobra - MicroTALK 23-Mile, 22-Channel FRS/GMRS 2-Way Radios.

These are the best Walkie Talkies EVER!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, the range is insane! Compared to my old Cobra radios, I have no problem with talking to my wife while hunting about 10 miles down the road. I also took them to the races, my wife is a photographer and I am a racer. We have kids and when it's time for me to race, she has to come off the track and watch the kids. My last radios would get interference from the overhead pa system and scoring system, these do not, on any channel. The batteries last all day too and the charging base is awesome. The did a great job on adding the 2 charger ends as well in case you do not want to use the base. Great job Cobra! Super happy with these.

Not much different than others in it's class
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First thing's first - 23 mile is a gross exaggeration unless you're talking about 23 miles with absolutely nothing between point A and B. The sound quality is decent, but you're an absolute fool if you think you're going to get more than a mile's range out of these, especially not when it comes to being inside of a building or outdoors with mountains or other terrain. These are labeled as professional radios, which to me would say that they're for institutional use or in the workplace. I tried them at a local elementary school campus with the help of a coworker - we weren't any more impressed with these than we would be with any other consumer-class blister-packed FRS/GMRS radio. If you're looking for something with better range, look down the path of GMRS or business-class radios that utilize a small local repeater - these will only leave you disappointed.

Decent but don't fall for stated range
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Cobra - MicroTALK 23-Mile, 22-Channel FRS/GMRS 2-Way Radios are decent handheld radios as long as you know that you aren’t actually getting radios that work 23 miles apart. The title and listing for these radios here on the Best Buy website is a bit odd since the packaging for these radios describes them as “Pro Business Radios” which seems to make much more sense given how these radios work and what they seem to actually be designed for. This isn’t to say that these radios are no good as they actually work very well for their designed purpose which is in relatively close proximity such as in multi-story office buildings or while out camping / hiking. The charging dock is a nice feature which makes it easy to charge the radios but it should be noted that you can’t charge them while the belt clips are attached. Overall, as long as you understand that these radios don’t actually work 23 miles apart and you plan on using them as intended, these radios are a great choice.

Using These on Next Backpacking Trip
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These Cobra Pro Business Radios are amazing. I plan on using them backpacking, and while I haven't been able to try them in the middle of mountains, I had no problem using them over a range of 7 miles. They are rechargeable, and have a 12 hour battery life. For backpacking, as long as I turn them off when not in use, that would easily cover a 4-5 day trek and more. These are small and light-weight, so they are ideal for saving space in a pack.

The rechargeable batteries are small and come uninstalled. You will need to be careful not to loose the small screws when installing the batteries. The range is very good and sound quality is clear. Ideal to use in a building environment and the carry case makes it easy to keep on you. Functional enough for professional use and easy for a child to enjoy.

Great Two-Way Radio but Don't Expect Long Range
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Cobra MicroTalk 23-Mile 2-way Radios overall work well. Very easy to use, voice comes through clearly. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the range. In my testing, they lost connection around .5 miles, not near what is advertised. Interference, etc. may have played a factor in the limited range, but I tested with different channels, both radios outdoors, etc. If you are needing a good two-way radio for your office, worksite, or even home, these work great as long as you don't need really extended range.
