We just purchased this for our travels and so glad that we did. This unit is very easy to use - in addition, we were able to easily find the next gas station(s) and places to eat in addition to lodging options.
No need to use phone to search and worry about phone signal. This definitely was a BEST BUY for us! Highly recommended.

I bought this because I bought my original Garmin 53 in 2017. Both the old and the new have outdated maps. I was disappointed that the new 53 didn't have an updated map.
When I needed to go 270N, the old 53 would have me turn right at 161W/270S and then cross over two lanes to get to 270N. This is DANGEROUS because, not only is the driver merging into traffic, but they would also need to cross two lanes in about 50 yards while other cars are traveling at 70+mph.
When I use a different navigation system, it takes me on a different route that is safer. I do not like that system, so I decided to buy an "updated" newer model 53. After I bought the new 53, I checked for updates.
The newer model has a the power button on the back instead of the top, the input functionality is fingers, the old one I could type with my fingernails.
It takes a long time to bring the map and directions up after inputting an address or location.
The attached map shows the route in pink, but the line is so thick that it does not show that I have drive down 270S and then try to get to 270. I missed getting onto 270N one time because the traffic already on 270S is going 70mph and there was no way, I could both merge AND cross two traffic lanes to get to 270N.
The map with the black background is from the navigation software that I do not like.

Love this GPS. Gets most of info from Google. I was in central Wisconsin and typed in FLEET AND FARM and it was in data base. If you travel in cities you can set it to show less information on screen so your not overwhelmed and can concentrate on your driving. Its not perfect but neither is nothing is. I use this in Chicago and suburbs and also out of state. Even if i go a familiar rout its turned on. You can set it to avoid toll roads. I could use my phone but dont want to waste Data. Its plug and play out of box. I up date my Garmin out of box then yearly. I wont drive without this. I own 2 and impressed by it.

This is a "no frills" GPS that does exactly what I want, provide clear, prompt navigation. A great feature is allowing a user to put in a preferred route. This is great since that route can be more scenic than the fastest way. Another nice feature is listing stops along the way for gas, food, or rest stops. Updating maps is easy, the display is excellent, and the device boots up quickly.

This product works great. It is easy to operate. It doesn't hold a charge very long when disconnected fro the power source though but i am happy with it's functions. Its easy to use.

Not for my taste, but other people might like it. It *gently* reminds about the speed limit when it goes down, but I'd rather leave it alone, and instead had the older option - the voice telling me "recalculating" when I miss the turn, thus alerting me to my mistake. But this GPS just quietly starts recalculating the new route on the screen. It doesn't have the blue tooth as well, so Garmin older model like 1450 LMT was better - more action for the buck. However life maps are included here as well, which is a good thing. Another concern is the touch screen - I think it needs protection now, like the phone. Overall not bad, but not the greatest thing ever, so when on sale, it's OK.

This product works great and it is small enough whereby it doesn't take up too much room. It is a great addition to my car and it produces accurate directions.

Garmin Drive 53 is a basic entry-level GPS. It does a fine job in the US, but during a recent trip to Montreal, Canada it frequently got confused and gave us bizarre and confusing and sometimes incorrect driving instructions. When the Garmin GPS gets confused, you will need to drive away from your current location for several blocks, so that it will "wake up" and correct itself and get you on the right track eventually. Garmin's map updates are not truly updated even though we performed the map updates the day before we traveled. These outdated Garmin map "updates" have resulted in several misleading driving instructions during our recent trips. Unlike our TomTom GPS that has a built-in WiFi to perform map updates automatically without a computer, you will need to hook up the Garmin GPS to a computer to get the map updates.

Works great! I had an older version, that I had for a number of years. It still works! That's why I went with this one. I love the ease and the updated on this. And for the price being the same, made it even better!

Super piece of navigational equipment, a must have especially if you hate pulling over to read a map, or if your designated map reader can't really read one or is sleeping. You plug it in and it sets itself up. Then enter your destination & away you go. I love this Garmin, it has guided me to Door County, one wedding, and several garage sales. Makes any destination an easy drive.

I like Garmin gps system because they are very reliable, even in places where mobile phone GPS systems do not work. I was surprised that this unit does not seem to have live traffic updates. Perhaps I am missing the feature and it is there, but I have not found it in this unit. otherwise, the unit if great.

I purchased this to replace an old Tom-Tom that could no longer be updated. While I wanted to get a larger screen, the sale price for the unity I got was too good to pass up. The display is crisp and easily seen. It got us from Colorado to South Dakota with no trouble. Let's see how it does when we go to Canada this summer - if they'll let us in.
