    Superior performing netbook

I decided to start looking at netbooks because the laptop I have at home is too big and bulky and the horrible battery life makes it impossible to actually be portable for more than an hour and a half. After looking at the specs for netbooks under $300, I decided on the Gateway, and I can definitely say that this netbook is a wonderful buy! The specs for this one were actually better than the more expensive choices! I can easily take it anywhere for as long as I want to, thanks to it being so lightweight and the incredibly long-lasting battery life. It comes pre-loaded with Windows 7 Starter, which makes it compatible with any download. Also, it has a 250GB hard drive and runs on an Intel processor! I did choose to install Microsoft Office and buy a cheap external CD drive for whenever I may need it. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase!

    Great Travel Computer

I bought this netbook to take a long with me while I travel. It is small enough to fit in your purse and take wherever you go. The first one I bought the webcam broke within 2 weeks, but Best Buy replaced it with a new one. So far I have had it a month and it works great. The performance is a little slow so I bought 2GB ram card and installed it. Made the speed a little bit faster. Works well with MS Office 2007 Enterprise, Skype, Internet, Email, etc. Just be a little more patient with its processing speed. As for no DVD drive to watch movies on it, I downloaded/purchased Wondershare on my personal computer at home. Then I took a few of my DVDs and converted them to WAV files. I put these files on a thumb drive and then transfered them to this computer. The movies run on Windows Media Player quite well. I watched a few on the plane. The external speaker is not very loud, so you will need headphones or external speakers. Overall I am glad I purchased this netbook and it does exactly what I needed it to do.

Overall great netbook. Beautiful bright Gateway LED screen, decent keyboard that's easy to use, 6-cell battery life is decent. Computer seems faster than other netbooks I've used. The build quality is decent as well. The only thing that could be better is the trackpad buttons. They feel cheap, but they are better than many other netbooks. I took Windows 7 off and put Linux Mint on. Right now Linux Mint does not support the built-in card reader, but I'm searching for a fix for that. I would also like to find a way for Linux to disable the "tap-click" on the touchpad. If you are looking at netbooks, compare this model to anything else. Features and price put the LT2104u above the others.

I been using this laptop for 1 month now, I it is the one of my best laptops ever, the size is very small, so it let me take it in the plane, with ease, I work as a tech in restaurants food chains, very compact and can set it and use the Wi-Fi whatever I am. The battery life is long; I can run it for about 8 hours. Ac adapter is very small and light weight. Windows 7 starter has all you need to be on the road... I wish I could change my back ground... that is the only thin I dont like about 7... but I guess is all cosmetic

I bought this netbook for my wife to carry in Europe. We wanted to be able to communicate via Skype, since cell service is about a buck a minute over there. Also needed a place to dump pictures and video from her camera. Upgraded RAM to 2 gb right off the bat, and removed all the c**pware. I was disappointed that the version of MS Works was ad supported! Got rid of that immediately and installed OpenOffice. Also installed bible software and an eBook reader. She'll be traveling light and did not want to carry her Bible and other reading material. Performance is acceptable for most tasks, particularly after the ram upgrade, and Windows 7 Starter is just fine for this type of machine. It's my first experience with 7, and it's probably as easy to use as any Windows so far. Battery life is excellent- ran about 6 hours while downloading and installing software, and that is about as high a load as you'll ever experience. In short, for web surfing, email, Skype, word processing, eBook reading and light photo editing, this machine is more than adequate. Syped my daughter this morning and she commented on how clear the video and audio was from this machine. Speakers are also pretty good. Now for the gripes- The keyboard is a little cramped, but that's just part of the deal with any netbook. The big problem is the function legends (what the key does when function key is pressed) on the black keys are in dark red- almost impossible to make out for old eyes like ours. No big deal, but white would have been nice. You just have to memorize the keys or carry a small led light to see what you are doing. Also- the track pad is- well, a track pad. Buy a wireless mouse. I strongly recommend the Microsoft Mobile Mouse 6000. MS claims it will work on any surface and it certainly delivers. Works on wood grain, carpet and even on your jeans! Pretty cool. I really like this machine so far. It does 95 % of what we need a PC for. With the RAM upgrade and 2 year black tie warranty, it's still under $450 USD. As always, Best Buy personnel were the best! We'll see how it holds up kicking around Europe in a backpack.

BOUGHT THE GATEWAY LT2104U A FEW WEEKS AGO AND I LOVE IT. IT DOES WHAT A NET BOOK WAS MADE TO DO AND MORE. PERFORMANCE IS GREAT FROM THE INTEL ATOM N450 CONSIDERING IT IS BUILT MAINLY FOR NET BOOKS. THE SYSTEM IS A GREAT FOR BROWSING ONLINE, CHATTING, TYPING UP DOCS, DOING RESEARCH, LISTENING MUSIC, EVEN LOOKING AT A MOVIE AND BEST OF ALL ALL THESE THINGS COULD BE DONE ALMOST ANYWHERE BECAUSE OF ITS SIZE, LIGHT WEIGHT, AND LONG BATTERY LIFE. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS NET BOOK TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS A SYSTEM FOR HOME OF SCHOOL BECAUSE OF THE PRICE, SPECS AND PERFORMANCE FOR A NET BOOK.

I researched for over 3 weeks trying to find the right netbook. I looked at most of the reputable online venues and narrowed it down to maybe three good ones. Then I came across this little gem! This is my first netbook, but I am very impressed. It's very light and so far the battery life is outstanding. I commute a lot and this machine is light and compact. The screen is bright and clear and the sound is good and loud. As soon as I can I'm going to upgrade the 1gig, but so far Windows 7 starter runs pretty well. You get your money's worth with this Gateway.

I like the netbook because it is small & not at all heavy. I can fit it in a purse. It's great for a business person who needs to have access to their contacts while out on the road. It powers up nicely & has lots of room to add any apps you may need. The battery life is awesome when compared to my laptop. I can use it off & on all day. My laptops only lasts about two hours. My only complaint is Internet Explorer. It constantly freezes. I think I will download Firefox or Google Chrome to see if this solves the issue.

So, I actually am a Geek Squad agent and bought this netbook for my fiance. I found it to be the best one for the value. It has the newest atom processor, 8* hours battery life, and has a very elegant design. I love the location of the power button in comparison to other netbooks. The unit itself performs smoothly and quickly. I had previously thought about upgrading the RAM to 2GB, but the 1 GB actually handles quite well. For anyone looking for a great portable pc and not afraid to spend just a little extra, I highly recommend this Gateway.

I use this netbook for viewing the web & writing e-mails, although I have loaded and used MS Visual Studio and been surprised at the positive performance. I am happy with the look, form factor, weight and convenience of this netbook. It has delivered as expected and I would purchase this netbook again. I recommend immediately upgrading to 2 GB of RAM & Reducing Windows Eye Candy settings as it really makes the machine pretty crisp on performance. The battery life usually lasts me about 6.5+ hours while using wireless. The screen attracts a fair amount of dust. Like most netbooks some software and webpages have scroll bars are off the screen and not usable because of screen size + resolution settings available. This affects a limited amount of websites and software I use, but can be frustrating. Netbook manufacturers need to find an elegant solution to this issue.

    Really nice netbook!

I bought this for my auntie who wanted a laptop but was not going to use it for gaming or anything beyond basic netsurfing and some MS Office. She wanted it for work purposes and to pay bills online. This fit perfectly. I wasn't thrilled that AMD processors are not in any netbook sold by BBuy but this Intel processor, coupled to a budget OS like WIndows 7 Starter works perfectly. I think it is a great computer for those who want a laptop without all the weight and poor battery life. Now, if you need to burn CDs or have to use CDs, this is not for you. Well, unless you buy a seperate external CD drive but that's another story. Easy to use, pretty fast too. My windows updates downloaded quick and installed quickly too. I was installing MS Office 2010, works like a charm. I love the webcam on it. 250GB drive, can be beat! Perfect to store pictures galore. It even has SPEAKERS. I didn't think I would have that:) It has a nice SD card port to read the digital camera cards and the touchpad on it was spot on. Netflix runs perfectly. 802.11 b/g/n, will keep this on the tech edge for a good couple of years. Wi-fi hotspot machine:) Its a Gateway. Solid build, pretty good specs, worth 300 bucks in my book. I did read the reviews that were angry about Windows not having the aero stuff on it but why give this computer more work to do? I say barebones is perfect for peak performance. Its a NETBOOK. I would recommend this for people who need basic computer help, students who just want to surf and write papers and first-time PC users. If you are a programming student, PC gamer, or have audio/video editing needs NETBOOKS are not for you, try notebooks. I liked it enough to want one myself. I don't need one because I have two desktops and two laptops but I'm a techno-addict:) I would buy one for me in a heartbeat. I added a nice mouse for those who dislike touchpads and a 2gb usb flash drive should you need to transfer stuff from one computer to another.

    Gateway Netbook

I planned to purchase a MacBook Pro but just couldn't bring myself to spend 4.5 x as much as a netbook. I started off looking at the Dell mini's because I've had good service from Dell and ended up looking at the Asus Eee's due to popularity and good reviews. Once I actually got to the store and started comparing them, this Gateway was the better buy for a few reasons. The first is the very bright and very clear, crisp LED-backlit display. It really is good. The second is the keyboard. This keyboard is by far the best one of what I looked at. Third, the display tilts back much further (almost completely flat) than all other netbooks I looked at, especially the Dell. The N450 CPU is very fast and doesn't get hot at all. The graphics chip is perfectly acceptable for a netbook, in fact, I was watching a streaming movie from Netflix on it earlier using my home wireless and it looked great! It did stutter once or twice, but I think that had more to do with connection speed than hardware. If you are comparing netbooks, I'd give this Gateway a good look. I don't write reviews but I think so much of it, I wanted to sign up so I could help others. I upgraded the RAM to 2GB. It's easy to do and you can get RAM online for cheap, or buy it locally. I picked mine up at the same place I bought the netbook. The staff were very helpful in getting me the proper chip. RAM with a CAS Latency of 5 will work better, but 6 is okay too.

    Awsome Netbook

I've had this thing a little over two weeks and it hasn't disapointed me yet. With one gig of ram I didn't notice any weak points but I did replace it with a 2 gb stick and yes it is picky over the ram you install. I made two trips to Bestbuy thinking memory was just memory and boy was I wrong but BestBuy does carry the memory that works with this laptop and its cheaper than you think<hint><hint>. Internet video does play smoothly but you need to decrease the Wireless adapter power saving to medium or less as on maximun power saving the video gets a little jerky. At first I had a little trouble with the touch pad but the swirl scrolling is awsome to say the least, it takes some time to get use to but beleive me it works great after a little practice. I have also upgraded to Win 7 Home Premium and the additional features are nice but I could have kept the home basic and still been happy but I had a spare Family pack License that I was itching to use. So all n all its a great laptop the way it comes and oh yeah the battery life is great and I keep getting tired around the time it gets to 50% battery left, yep around 4 hours with 50% of power to spare. Also its not a gameing system by far since im use to my home brew i7 4890xfire rig but I did have success loading RTCW and the frame rates were very good so i'll be trying a few more older games to see what happens. The one thing that I wish was included was a bluetooth adapter but at least it won't be sucking power when it's not being used so I just pull out the micro usb dongle that I also bought from BestBuy. One last comment I will be putting to bed my $1600 UX as this Netbook is now my new friend! Just a side note: I don't see anything wrong with the other brands as the had simular offerings just this one really caught my eye and I noticed the new CPU and the 250 gb hdd. Just buy one and you will not regret it.

I did my homework prior to making the purchase and it's everything I wanted it to be....small, portable, fast and able to handle my workload. Even with a memory upgrade and the installation of Office Professional and company specific software it handles it all while maintaining the speed and flexibility. I was concerned with the small screen size, but with the incredible resolution it adapts very nicely. Overall, I highly recommend it.

The specs can't be beat for the price. There are some things that I am not totally fond of... The keyboard (which is expected and takes getting used to on any netbook), and the trackpad (read other reviews). But the 250g hard drive + 6 cell battery together make this machine stand out at this price. It has a decent webcam. It runs office 2007 wonderfully, and firefox flies. It's worth saying very clearly that this machine has ABSOLUTELY STUNNING BATTERY LIFE! I am happy with this purchase...

We opted to spend a little more on this netbook vs one of the Asus models because of the bigger hard drive (250G instead of 160G), the extended battery life and the display. On the floor models the difference in the displays was immediately clear, and a $30 difference is price isn't going to break the bank. They were out of stock in Red at our Best Buy so we got Black instead. FANTASTIC little machine!

Looked around for a couple months comparing the different components. When the new netbooks came out this one bubbled to the top. There were a few form factor items as well, it was the slimmest with a long (not the longest which equates to thicker) battery life. I was surprised to learn the Win 7 Starter is exactly that, so I upgraded it to Win 7 Professional. I also upgraded the memory to 2GB. Added a Logitech Mouse (with the tiny USB dongle). Then I went at clearing out programs that didn't need to run and configurations that might slow it down. Next, I installed MS Office 2010 Beta, NetBeans 6.8 and Java SDK, and practically every other application I use often. This took up about 35 GB of the 250 GB on the system. What I was amazed at was that this little netbook runs great even with development. I hooked it up to my 40' HDTV and the output (1920x1080) was super clear, amazing. I take this thing with me everywhere. I use a USB Jump drive with a bootable Linux OS as well, I wish the system could boot off of the SD Memory Card Reader. The system does not have Bluetooth but I really didn't need that. I take this to work and I don't bring the power cord. I'm down near the end of the charge but I only plug it in at home. This netbook fill the my need perfectly. Overall I really love the netbook.

small size = small processor power...

For the price, I expected a low to mid range netbook, and that is just what this is. It comes with 1g of RAM, buy a 2g stick when you get the computer and swap it out, it's very easy to access RAM and hard drive for upgrades. It comes with a 6 cell battery, which is double what a lot come with - this means that you really get 8 hours battery life. It has built in wireless, so you don't have to use a device to access a wireess network...of course, if you want internet wherever you are, you still need to buy an aircard, but you won't have to run cables or anything to access internet via your wireless network. The screen is nice and sharp, It's probably just me, but I keep hitting the touchpad when I am typing, giving me some really odd documents when the cursor is randomly moved around! I bought a wireless USB mouse, and it picked it up with no problems. Like I said above, I can play CNN videos, but it lags so badly playing solitaire (or similar) that I really can't play it at all. If being able to play little games like that is important, look for a netbook with the newest processor. I don't particularly like the finish on the outside, it's shiny and black and shows fingerprints very well, but it also wipes right off. For the money, this is a good little netbook.

In February I took my ACER laptop to geek squad for repair under extended warranty. About a month later they told me to come in and get a new laptop because they could not fix my laptop. They gave me a full refund for what I paid for the acer laptop. After that I looked at the laptops and was not impressed by any so I went home and read reviews on bestbuy.com and found this netbook. This is the best computer I ever had. I have had many laptops before this and was always disappointed with the battery life. Most of the time I got 2 hours but with this I can get two days of use off a fully charged battery. My only complaint is that it takes a while to fully charge the battery. As I write the battery has been charging for the past hour and has only been increased by 20% while using the power saver mode. I only use this computer for web browsing, using MS Office loading music onto my iPod and sometimes autocad. The screen is too small to use autocad so whenever I use autocad I connect the netbook to a 32"lcd. It is a great netbook. Fast, lightweight and the battery lasts 8 hours. It also looks great.
