Lags and almost never in sync
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for when I'm away and don't want to take my Apple TV with me wherever I go. This device is particularly been a nightmare for me as it never wants to work properly and always lags. My Internet service provider provides me 100 MB speed and it still doesn't work well. I would suggest waiting for the next-generation want to come out or possibly just going with the Apple TV it's a little bit more expensive but it's a much better deal!

Finicky, but gets the job done
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product was hard to set up at first and intermittently does not work. When it does work it's nice tho. I would recommend a apple tv instead.

Poor product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this product after asking the sales associate if I would be able to use it without wifi, but rather straight from my phone which has internet on it. He instructed me it would. He was wrong, after going to a wifi area to set up product it still didnt work. I called for support and they tried to charge me just to answer my question. This information should be stated clearly on the packaging or instructions which it is not!!! I took it back!

Does not work with phone wifi only
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this with the intent of using it to view netflix from my son's smartphone. It would not work. We called customer service and they confirmed that it only works if you have a PC and wireless modem running. We already have a wireless blue ray player, Xbox, ps3 that do the same thing. My son does not have Internet in his home, but does have a smartphone. It was a waste of money for him, and we don't need another device in our home.

Meh
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product does work very easily but will not push cable onto tv without a box. Not this products fault. But that is why I bought it.

Google does not provide support
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Google provides no support, not even an email saying they are working on it. I bought this for work so I could review plans with customers from my tablet on a large screen in conference room but after the initial set up the Cast Icon disappeared from Chrome and Google provides no support on how to get it back. Emailing support does no good because they do not answer. Unless you only want to use it for YouTube don't bother buying it.

Did not find that useful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I found the image quality to be poor as the video shows up in jerk. I use other devices to stream from laptop and it works perfectly fine.

Nice little TV device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've got a pretty busy home when it comes to entertainment and watching movies and television rank among the highest of activities with my family. That said, I needed a way to get our streaming services from TV to TV without having to lug a game console or have my Mac Mini floating all over the house just to stream Netflix for family night. That said, enter Google Chromecast. The device is rather small which is a good thing and of course Google has made sure you have everything needed for this to work including a way to power the device even if your TV does not have a powered USB port. It is a very portable device and once set up can be moved anywhere within your wireless network. In my home we have five TVs all of different types and configurations. I don't like buying Smart TVs because you are paying hundreds of dollars more to do what Chromecast is doing for a measly $35.00. So for me and my family, this works pretty great. Here is my pro and con list, both pretty short. PROS: Small and very portable The video, even at a max of only 720p looks really nice. Love using my devices - any of my devices (Nexus 7, HTC One, or iPad) to control the Chromecast. Price CONS: Only 720p? Very surprising and means, I'm sure, in the near future a new Chromecase and new purchase will be made. Setup threw me for a loop at first. I'm very computer and network literate, but I got stumped on what Google was wanted from me at first. Very limited content. At the time of this review, only Netflix, Youtube, and Google Play content can be streamed, but more is on the way! Can't wait for HBO Go. Overall you simply cannot go wrong as the price and Google quality stand out. There are other options out there and yeah, right now those other options, if this is your only TV watching method might be better for you as they will have a ton more channels, but I'm confident this will change soon. Google very rarely does anything half way. For me and my family... we love it.

Works great with MacBook Pro Retina and Nook HD+
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Chromecast works great with my 2012 Apple MacBook Pro Retina and my wife's B&N Nook HD+. This ingenious little device allows us to remotely control YouTube and Netflix videos on our HDTVs with the convenient user interface of a computer/tablet/smartphone, which is much easier than navigating with a standard TV remote. It "casts" to the HDTV via Internet servers, not directly from the computer/tablet/smartphone, without tying it up while the videos play. The computer/tablet/smartphone can be turned off after launching a video, thereby conserving battery power, or it can be used for other tasks without competing for CPU/memory resources. Browsing and selecting additional videos can occur while viewing without interruption, so multiple videos can be queued. Friends and family can add videos to the queue using their computer/tablet/smartphone connected to our private Wi-Fi network. I can also "cast" the Chrome browser on my MacBook Pro Retina to our HDTVs, which is a great way to display my photo collection or share web sites with family and friends in the comfort of our living room. This will be a very useful teaching aid, as I am a technical instructor. It was tough to find Chromecast because of the limited supply, but persistence succeeded. Best Buy was already sold out the day after Chromecast was released, but I snagged our first one early the next morning (26 July) when they were available again on bestbuy.com for only one hour. It shipped on 29 July, arrived on 01 August, and I immediately plugged it into our 2012 Samsung PN51E7000 Plasma Smart TV. I liked it so much that I ordered another for our ancient 2006 Samsung HL-R4667W DLP HDTV. This time bestbuy.com was backordered, but they shipped our second Chromecast on 07 August, and it arrived on 09 August. Both of them included three months of NetFlix credit. We really enjoy Chromecast and think it is a wonderful alternative to our other media players. The YouTube and Netflix apps built into our Smart TV and Blu-ray player were always problematic because of our slow Internet connection (2.5 Mbps DSL), but Chromecast performance is excellent and never stutters. I expect more video streaming services will be available as the Chromecast market grows.

Does not work in just about any hotel.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted something that would stream video to the TV from my iPod in a hotel using the hotel wifi. This cannot be setup on the hotel wifi unless it is completely open. Most hotels give free guest access but you have to go to the hotel website and enable guest access. There is no way to input the required information from google chrome to enable guest access. Sure this works at home but not anywhere else. I took it back.

Stopped working after 2 weeks
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Chromecast worked well on the two occasions I used it within the first couple of weeks. Then for some reason it stopped communicating with the television. Would not sync, The dongle would not reset. I contacted google and they have been very slow in correcting the issue. They offered lots of ideas for getting it to work, but none did. I would love to get a replacement and try again, but still waiting.
